The Down-O-Matic is the big brother of the Urge family. The big vents on the front bring the maximum amount of fresh air to your head without sacrificing protection, while its composite fiber construction allows for an unmatched weight to protection ratio. To keep your head comfortable all day, the inside is made of super soft removable and washable padding. Around the world, or in your neighborhood playground, the Down-O-Matic is the helmet to wear!
Strengths: Sleek low profile
Lightweight
No geeky graphics
Inexpensive
Weaknesses: Not as comfy nor protective as other options (ex. Kali Avatar)
Inner padding could be better
Bottom Line:
My XC lid has been "demoted" to road use and this basically took over for all my off-road cranium protection duties, though I still consider the XC lid for hot summer all-day epic rides with lots of climbing. It's not as huge as other full face helmets, which seem more suited for DH, MX (and are even DOT approved for motorcycle use); it's lack of bulk makes it feel better suited for reckless risk taking on regular trails, not DH-only trails. It's not too hot or stuffy and I don't mind wearing it while climbing up lengths of trail that gain 1000'+ in altitude.
The only quibble I had is that I've experienced an extremely fine fit with another full face, but that helmet was about 2x the price and also much bulkier and heavier (Kali Avatar). The inner padding is what sets it apart from this helmet. This seems more like a close fitting shell than some serious protective head gear.
