Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:calgary cycle
Strengths:dont get nearly as hot as my mace pads (only cuz they had the back padding on them)
Weaknesses:cracks in both knee cups, the material covering the honeycomb venting rips really easily
Bottom Line:way to expensive (100 cad). for that price i expect way more out of troy lee, both knee cups have a crack running halfway down the middle, and the material covering the venting isnt durable at all

the upper 2 straps also slip off the secondary strap they go over very easily, thus causing chaffing of the legs, which is never fun

Strengths:the fit is awesome and they never ever slip. ventilation is very good and they are all round comfy.
Weaknesses:the mesh rips like tissue paper and the knee cups crack very easily
Similar Products Used:661 race
Bottom Line:i really hate to get on mtbr and write a bad review... its so whiney. i have a mixed amount of agreement with other reviews - coming from 661 races like the guy below i found it so good taht you could trust these pads not to slip and inch.

im also not surprised that another persons strap came off, the overall quality seems very poor, after riding for a few months with them and not having a crash (which is strange in itself) they stitching had started to fray in a few places.

i finally had two very low speed stacks - one doing a stoppie and one dismounting when doing a skinny ride (onto grass). both incidents were landed feet first but overbalanced onto knees. both incidents resulted in cracks in the knee cups. while the 661 slipped 50% of the time, they took a real beating when they didnt. unfortunately i cant say that the TLDs are durable what-so-ever.

bottom line (of bottom line ;) ) great fit, never slip. durability is a serious issue though.

4 for value as they were about 40AUD less then other top brands
overall = 2 = number of crashes survived before they found the bin.

Favorite Trail:Paid In Full
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:JensonUSA.com
Strengths:Nice and Cool and Nice Looking. Very comfortable. I like them alot and I like that my knees arent ripped up in the back after a hard day of riding.
Weaknesses:I was disappointed that The Middle Strap on Right Leg Tore off after 2 Rides. The Stitches came loose and the glue came undone. I Had to Re-Glue it and then sew it back on myself. I love them anyhow.

Bike Setup:Azonic Eliminator, Marzocchi Shiver, Race Face North Shore Cranks, Hayes Disc, Mavic 321 Disc Rims/Hope Bulb Hubs, PUSHed Fox Vanilla RC
Bottom Line:These are great knee pads. Very Comfortable. I like them alot. I also bought the elbow pads as well.
It stunk that my strap ripped off, but I was able to fix it easily. Troy Lee designs would have warrantied it, but I didnt wanna miss any riding while they were sent in and then a new pair returned.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:Troy Lee
Strengths:Comfortable, Adjustable, Durable, Light, Breathe Well, Stay In Place
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Roach, 661, FOX
Bike Setup:Azonic Eliminator w/Boxxer
Bottom Line:Two years of use and they are still charging hard. The backs of the legs are open so they are nice and cool in the summer. The plastic is very tough and it won't crack. The three velcro staps are nice and wide and the top two have a neoprene "pad" that velcros into place under the strap so that you don't get worn raw by the velcro.

These rock and I have gone down hard on them plenty of times.

Easily the best buy out there for knee protection. Everything else is uncomfortable or falls apart. I wish their helmets were this inexpensive.

Date Reviewed: April 8, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $39.00
Strengths:fit, comfort, strength, fit, construction, protection...did i mention fit
Weaknesses:none, yet
Similar Products Used:qrank dh (pretty good), sixsixone race (suck)
Bike Setup:factory norco vps1 - pretty much hooked up
Bottom Line:they are comfortable and stay in place so you forget that you have them on, until you pile, then you remember that your 661race pads are in the trash and realize that you aren't bleeding. they are tough as nails and look the part. i am a hard fit with shin pads but these are a spot on fit for my short thick legs. they are oddly shaped so you should try them on before you buy them but if they fit you right they will be the best pads you've ever had. also, after seeing what else is out there i didn't mind spending the $40 on these.
