Strengths:
eerrmm, they're light?
Weaknesses:
They slip down while riding
they don't hold in place in a crash
Similar Products Used:
661 knee-shin protection
Bike Setup:
2009 Scott Genius
Bottom Line:
I got these as a summer alternative to the full knee-shin thing, and guess what, first ride I crash - I look down at my left knee which is all in blood - the padding had slipped...
661 even offers a covering to keep it from slipping.. pathetic.
My elbow veggies have proved good, though.
I'm probably going to try the Kyle Straits, as I hear good things about them

Strengths:
-Excellent protection against hard straight-on hits (pedals, concrete, packed dirt, etc.)
Weaknesses:
-They don't breathe well causing you to sweat.
-They smell awful after a ride. Running them through a hot wash with Oxyclean helps until the next ride. Then the stench comes back.
-The overlapping "hook" (as in hook and loop) portion of the velcro straps tend to stick to and pull apart the elastic fabric that wraps around the back of your knee, causing it to tear.
-During a horizontal spill, the pad peeled back allowing road rash.

Bottom Line:
I bought these to protect my upper shins/lower knee caps from pedal punctures. I also wear some basic Fox shin guards and this combo gives me full lower leg coverage. I do a lot of urban riding and don't ever get bitten by the pedals anymore. However, the knee pads get hot and cause me to sweat quite a bit. The smell is pretty bad and doesn't wash out completely, even in hot water with Oxyclean. I'm now looking for a knee/shin combo to replace my current setup that's not made of neoprene.

Strengths:
The kneepads are easy to pedal with and after a short while you can forget that you have them on
Weaknesses:
I've had two falls where they have dragged and them my knees have suffered damage. They don't lock into place when you fall
Bike Setup:
XC
Bottom Line:
They prevent a degree of bruising and scratching but not all. Better than nothing, but if they could be a better fit, would be much more valuable.
