Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
They fit great and protect well. I tested them with a hammer, when I hit them hard in the middle of my shin, all i felt was a VERY light pressure at the knee and ankle, AMAZING!
The slip until you start to sweat, so I just wet my legs before I put them on to get them to stick from the get go.
You feel the air flowing through the holes when you have your leg straight, but you will sweat alot under them, which makes them stay put.
Great shin guard that fits well all ride long. They fit so well that I use them on my road bike pedaling along with a cadence of 90-120, and they hold put the whole time. After a while, you will forget that you are wearing them at all.

I got these for christmas from my mom because i needed a pair after my bike pedal attaked me and 3 weeks off my bike. Deciced to get the 2008 race shin pads. They look good, perform well and have great protection. The only thing i had a problem with was placement on my leg. I found that it had to be cranked tight to be in the specific place to protect my knee. After that while riding it hurts the back of your leg. Bottom line is..I'd buy these again. They stayed in place for the first week pretty well, but after that, I had to pull them up every 5 minutes, and that did'nt help, since they slid down immediately after I fixed them.
So, Unless you have control of where on your knee your going to land, I would'nt recommend these.

They make you warm in cold weather, but aren't too uncomfortable to wear in hot weather even for a few hours either. They don't obstruct pedalling at all. I may even try and wear them all the time when winter comes. You might need them even when you're not on the downhill section...

At first I hated these things, but now I can live with em. How's that? Don't use the top strap. All it'll do is crimp into the back of your knee and annoy the hell out of you. The spandex backing around the knee area is enough to keep it in place there. They will drop down on you all the time exposing the top of your knee to damage. If you refrain from using the top strap it won't be so bad. I wouldn't recommend getting these unless you get them at a serious discount.

Strengths:
Padding is comfortable, straps easy to work with, breathes quite well. The price was great when I bought these, but recently BlueSky's pricing has soared (perhaps a holiday buzzkill).
Weaknesses:
Wearing these outside a pant is practically impossible; before long you'll be protecting the side of your calf as the pads shimmy all over the place. When strapped right to the leg, they tend to slide down - not a lot, but enough so that the small bit of padding below the plastic shin piece bunches up and leaves me with a pair of brutal blisters on the top of my ankle. This happens just about every extended ride (which is most times I am riding). The "softer" strap (the one that crosses at the joint) hates staying stuck and I often find it flopping around.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
661 makes some really great stuff, don't get me wrong. I would never trade my Pro Bravo helmet in for the world. But these pads fall short in one of the most important factors: comfort. I cannot get the pads to stop shifting downward unless the straps are so tight my legs go numb, and when the do shift I develop these blisters on the tops of my heels that are incredibly painful after several hours of riding. The Race Lites are rather disappointing and, sorry to say, they'll be retired as soon as I can put the money towards a better constructed shin guard.

or
Buy other pads for $80. Total $80.
It makes perfect sense. These pads are not good for the money when you are only talking $20 or so more for a real pair. I took them back and bought some roach rally fr pads the difference was 300x better. don't even waste your time, money and safety on these.
I know everyone is shaped a little different. But I truly feel insulted, this company should be ashamed for producing these pads IMHO. They are charging way too much compared to pads that work.

They will keep you safe from pedal bite and roadrash when laying the bike down, but for serious chaos and impacts they slide all over the place and dont come high enough about the knee. I took a hit the other day that was above the guard just at the top of my knee cap. It brutalized me, and I dont think it would have happened with another guard. The articulation of the knee joint and the depth of the knee cup just aren't good enough to keep it where it needs to be in most cases. It could be because I'm 6'3 and have long legs, but I just dont feel covered.

saves your shins from pedal studs while just sidehopping around and trials type tricks. BUT.....
Weaknesses:
i sidehopped down a 5 1/2 foot to flat and slipped a pedal, and the crank spun and wham. i got a decent sized gouge in my leg RIGHT THROUGH THE SHIN PAD! i thought these things were supposed to protect you. i will admit they would prolly be decent for racing or whatnot (unless you wipe out a lot) and also that it would have been much worse with the pedal studs on my bare shin, but i guarantee with a rockgardn pad, they wouldnt have cut me through the pad.
Id say go for rockgardn airframe pads, or roach rally FR pads. they will save you much more than these will. also take note that the distance between the knee pad and the shin pad, is about perfect for someone my size (5'10") to get smashed by the pedal everytime. luckily on the 5.5 to flat it hit a little lower than that gap so it didnt do as much damage. check out these pics to see what the pad looked like after the impact (doesnt look like anything happened) and then a pic of what happened to my leg THROUGH the pad (nothing major but pads should prevent this.)

Read all the other reviews and still ordered these anyways. Since some of the reviews were old and they were cheap I figured what the hell? The kneecaps on these are sewn on as opposed to just glued, I wondered how bad the sizing could really be.
Strapped them on and found that at 6'3" with big legs size L fit me perfectly. I was happy at this point. Took them for a ride, they stayed put, exactly where I wanted 'em, and with no crazy abrasion. At this point I was very happy. Got home and found that after one ride (no falls) the seams on the left kneecap were coming undone. I was no longer quite so happy. So I took out the old trusty loctite and saturated both the knee and shin guard seams, and this seems to have fixed the problem. At $27 for the pads + glue I'm thrilled to have adequately padded armor that fits me and doesn't move around. If I'd paid the $50 that these retail for, I'd be way pissed. I'll gladly use these until they wear out but I'll prolly get some Roach rally pads next time.6

I used skater knee pads before this, but I wanted something my blood could flow through on climbs.
The knee pad is an unexceptable form of knee protection(I say this without actually falling with them but...) The strap is a loose fit which inturn lets the pad slide down and flap out sideways. This is not so comfortable, but more importantly gives me the feeling that if I take a dive, the knee pad will simply slide down expossing my knee to the ground. And I think the sizing is a little large. I'm 5'10" and 185. Most of the time that qualifies as a large, but when my large pads came in they were huge. AND thanks to PRICEPOINT, who does NOT have a sizing guide and to SIXSIXONE who ALSO does not have a sizing guide, lucky me got to pay shipping three separate times. YEA! So for me, it's goodbye pricepoint and sixsixone and hello JENSON'S and HELLO ROACHES or TRD or FOX. Cheap, which is a big plus to me. Straps are pretty good(except for thigh strap) Decent ventilation.
Weaknesses:
Thigh strap
Similar Products Used:
Fox 911
Bottom Line:
There a really good deal at 25 dollars that is so much cheaper than that dainese stuff that lasts less than 1 season, the knee cup slides down pretty easily but other wise there good, there strong and you don't really feel them when your riding, the price is so sweet I couldn't even complain, there sweet for the price, sizing a little messed up bu otherwise there okay.

Ventilation, good padding, shin pads.
Weaknesses:
Thigh strap to keep knee pad on.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
Kona Roast
Bottom Line:
The sizing on these is totally off. I am 5'10" with long legs, luckily. The pads are for big guys. The shin pad goes all the way down to my shoe. This review is for the '03 race, by the way. The straps are better than the old ones. They really grab your lower legs and are snug. They can't slip down on me because they cover my whole shin. They are reeeeally big though. 661 just uses the same knee, shin pads and attaches smaller straps on for varying sizes- That's sounds lazy too me.
Someone with BIG legs would fit into these but then the straps would be too small. The knee strap is weird and doesn't do much help. Also I have small arms, the 661 small arm pads are HUGE also. I think the only people these would fit on is someone with long and slim legs. Good luck.
At least I only paid $25 bucks. 661 needs to really needs to actually make the pads themselves smaller or larger depending on the size. Work harder 661.

they come in a really cool mesh bag that you can put them in when you return them because they suck so bad.
Weaknesses:
fit - i went to the axo web site to check measurements for sizing and ordered a medium. could not fasten the velcro. returned them for a large. still had to go to home depot and get velcro to extend the straps so they would fit around my legs. quality - started riding around in the parking lot and they kept sliding down (i hated them before i even got out of the parking lot), so i reached down to pull them up and tore the knee plate clean off. it was not stitched on, only glued!!!

Bottom Line:
do not buy these. they will fall apart, ruin your ride, and just drive you crazy. i am giving them 1 flamin' doodie only because i can't give them a zero (they suck). if you don't believe me keep reading the reviews - i wish i did.

Well ventilated, daianese look a likes. Kinde of comphy. Protects shins well.
Weaknesses:
Will not stay in place for anything. You have to pull them up after almost every jump. When you fall the knee area slides right out of the way so it doesn't get scratched up but your knee gets the s**t beat out of it instead. It's like they know that you are about to crash and move out of the way so they don't get hurt.

Bottom Line:
These pads look good and ventilate well and they are sort of comfortable. if you are looking for good protection for your knees, don't get these. The craftsmanship is absolute crap. When I pu these on for the first time, the topp tab ripped right off on both of the pads. Thes best way to describe these is as total poser pads. They look like they would be good, but they're not; instead, they are really good at sucking ass.

none, but if you want to ruin a good ride by having to pull up pads after every rotation of the crank this would be a great product for you
Weaknesses:
land on your knee , the pad will slide down to ensure that your knee gets a nice beating, land on your shin these pads will ride up your leg to make sure you rip just enough skin off your leg to make it a ride to remember i have gone through two sets of these because of straps ripping ,I had two different sizes, thinking i may have purchased the wrong size , both didnt fit believe me when i say these suck
Similar Products Used:

dont buy these pads do not know whats better , but I cant imagine anything being worse

Some people slam this site because of reviews like this, but here goes. I have only used these pads once. The problem with them is that the velcro strap above my right knee came off in my hand the first time I put these pads on to ride. I ended up using duct tape on my brand new $40 gear just to make it usable. I expect gear like this to fail eventually, it leads a hard life, but it should last longer than this.

Padding everywhere, for the price i got it, the pads were good. Strong, has saved me from alot of shin spiltters. Protect me, my right one seems to stay on my leg right...
Weaknesses:
Slip off your knee likes it's job. The strap doesn't strap above your knee, but on your thigh. so when you tighten it the flex of your thigh either lossens the velcro or gets to tense and makes the holding slip off your thigh. The velcro is mad irriating too, kinda icthy. Maybe i am putting them on wrong but it seems to stay on my right thing and not my left. Also the thigh velcro does n ot go long enough to tighten it really good.

Strengths:
They stop concrete and the occasional pedal Pretty well ventilated
Weaknesses:
Slip a lot. Pedal, tug, pedal, tug, pedal, tug. Oddly sized straps. I ordered the largest size. The strap around my quads is too big to hold the pads up; the one around my lower calf is too small to even be fastenable. Whose legs were these designed for? No protection for the back of the leg, but such is the price of ventilation
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
Pretty good pads if you live somewhere hot. I have to pull them up every 15-20 minutes when I'm pedalling. Not really too bad, but it's one more thing to bug you. They've certainly taken everything I could throw at them, and that's even after I doubled the size of all the ventilation holes. (Every been in Arizona in May?)
If anything, I would think my calves were skinnier than normal and my quads were larger than normal. Either they sized these for the world's strangest legs or mine are wierder than I thought.
-2 chilies for fit, +1 for good ventilation and adequate protection
