Strengths:    Lightweight, not too hot, offers a decent amount of protection, not too bulky, fits under a jersey without looking like a football player.

Weaknesses:    Probably not enough protection for all-out, heavy DH. Velcro could wear out over time

Bottom Line:   
Offers good, lightweight protection to take the edge off of hits. Was looking to add some shoulder/back protection without going to a full pressure suit and the RF Armour Jacket fit the bill perfectly. I ride mostly AM/FR/lightDH and the RF Armour Jacket works great coupled with the TLD Knee and elbow guards and isn't too hot for the AM climbs either. Only gave 4 flaming chilis overall because not sure how the Velcro will hold up over the years...

Strengths:    I was looking for some moderate protection of this style with seperate elbow pads. It covers your back quite well,has a decent shoulder pad and the adjustability seemed to work. It didn't move around at least that I noticed. I am replacing my old JT racing chest protector from the early 1980's so this is a HUGE(rochester) improvement. It weighed 2.4 lbs.

Weaknesses:    The only very noticeable weaknesss is the thickness of the chest panel. The impact plates that you see are a flexible plastic, instead of hard platic like yhe rock gardn. The pading is only maybe 1/4" thick. I velcroed some 1/2" thick dense shipping foam to the inside of the chest plate and now It is way better.

Bottom Line:   
This appears to be a good product if you can find some nice padding to add to the chest plate, and you will be good to go. It doesn't have all that fish net material on it to get cought on everything. Not to mention getting in and out of. I think a company as large as RACE FACE could add a litte more padding to the chest portion to complete the product for what it is intended to do. I give this product 4 out of 5 only becouse of the minimal amount of chest padding.

Similar Products Used:   rock gardn trail protector. This was nice but it just doesn't go low enough on your back.

Strengths:    Lightweight.

Weaknesses:    Velcro was essentially useless.

Bottom Line:   
I spent a week at Whistler and didn't bring my own gear, so I rented armor with my bike. I've been using Roach/Race Face knee and elbow pads since they came out. I like the feel and protection, while recognizing that the stitching could use improvement.
This armor was too lightweight to feel like it offered any real protection. Having said that, I know that no armor is bullet-proof in terms of preventing injury, but my Flak Jacket feels more substantial in this regard.
It's no surprise that velcro would fail after being used continually at a place like Whistler where it's used day in and day out, but at home I use my armor day in and day out and it still stays on. Maybe Race Face corrected this in this year's model. If so, if you're looking for lightweight armor, this may be what you're looking for.
