Favorite Trail:Covered in mud and snow
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $110.00
Strengths:Now that´s a beautiful helmet! That rear wing is useless, but looks soooooo cool!! Fits fine. Very comfortable. Does not pull your hair of the skull. Air ventilation is perfect.
Weaknesses:Could be a net in the air ventilation holes - some bee bothered me, and it ended with a sting in my head.
Bottom Line:I don´t need to make adjustments with only one hand, so I dont take it as a disadvantage. Can´t tell about the main thing - safeness - it didn´t saved my life yet.. But it looks solidly built.

Date Reviewed: December 23, 2009
Favorite Trail:Dirt or paved, doesnt matter. One world, two wheels!
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $75.00
Purchased At:Incycle
Strengths:Light weight, good air circulation, looks, straps dont get in the way, better back of the head coverage
Weaknesses:Visor comes off too easy, no dial adjustment for head for one handed operation, PRICE
Similar Products Used:Trek Vapor, Specialized Tactic, Giro Hex and other BMX type lids
Bike Setup:Redline Monocog 29er, rigid and singlespeed. WTB Exiwolfs, Slime tubes, Azonic pedals, Easton stem, Forte seatpost, Ergon grips with barends
Bottom Line:Always loved the look of the Fox Flux helmet except the price held me back. Had the opportunity to buy at 25% off at a LBS sale so I got it. The Fox Flux is far more comfortable to wear than the Specialized Tactic.

Visor does come off easily especially when being fiddled with contantly. I try not to mess around it so for now its firmly attached. Once it does get loose, I'll glue it.

The Flux has a lot of vents much like the Specialized Tactic and the Giro Hex without that mushroom head look and does work in keeping the head cool.

Back of the head protection is also better than most XC type helmets that IMO sacrifices coverage for less weight.

This Flux helmet does not come with a one-hand adjustment for better fit around the head. This however is really a minor grip as once the right fit is made, there is no need to re-adjust it.

One of the best features of the Flux that most helmets dont have is the strap. The mounting point for the front strap is on the outer part of the helmet rather than the traditional inside the helmet mount. This allows the strap to be farther from the riders face allowing easier wearing of sunglasses/eye protection. No longer wiil the front strap be pinned to the side of the face or press against the sides of the riding glasses. Because the strap is away from the face, sweat doesnt build up and make it sticky and makes for a better fit behind and below the ear.

The only drawback I can think of is the price. The Flux is kinda expensive and overpriced. Paying full price (plus tax) will be over $100; I'd like to see Fox lower the the price of the Fox to around $65-$80 as a helmet of this quality isnt unreasonable.

Favorite Trail:MRT
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:Wheel World
Strengths:Fit and finish are good. Straps fit comfortable and secure. Helmet offers good protection and yet allows good airflow. Nice selection of colors and patterns. Easy retention adjustment that stays set when adjustment is complete.
Weaknesses:No adjustment for the visor which can be a pain in the evening or morning sun. Limited number of shell sizes. What the heck is that rear wing for?
Similar Products Used:Giro Xen
Bike Setup:Jamis XAM 2.0 AM setup
Bottom Line:Good helmet and seems to hold up well under heavy use. Cleans easily and wears well. Definitely a good way to go if the shell sizes offered will actually fit your melon.

Favorite Trail:The ones w.o. pavement
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $95.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Superb fit.
Well ventilated and light weight.
Adjusters work well with out any hang ups.
Good protection around the back, where others are simply non-existent.
Weaknesses:Price is a bit steep, but far cheaper than a lobotomy.
Front visor is not long for this world, unless you use a dab of superglue right out of the box.
Visor could have been a bit longer too.-Attention Fox R&D,are you reading these reviews as well? This isn't the 1st. time this has been written here you know.
Similar Products Used:Skater hard shells,to damn hot!
Bike Setup:Giant Sedona with some upgraded bobbits&widgets.
Bottom Line:If you have a giant watermelon sized cabeza like I do(8.250 hat size)then this will more than likely be the helmet for you and your pumpkin head.Every other brand I tried on,Bell,Giro and the like either squeezed the sides to hard or pushed to much on the soft spot of my dome.
With this in mind I bought the L/XL size which is greatly cavernous and well rounded on the inside,it even comes with an extra set of pads so when the set your using become filled with "monkey splunge",into the washer they go w.o. the worry of missing a days ride.
Excellent brain bucket overall.Enjoy.

Strengths:This helmet looks great and is very comfortable. It also protects your melon pretty good. I hit a tree after flying off a 4 foot drop and faceplanted a tree. Thankfully, the helmet saved me.
Weaknesses:Fox should replace helmet fully, not at discount price.
Bike Setup:09 Fisher Pirahna, 09 Marin WolfRidge 6.7, 05 IronHorse MKIII Team
Bottom Line:This helmet is great and will truly save the melon. It feels great on the head and you never over heat. It looks cool too.

Strengths:looks ok, probably will save my head if i fall, if fairly comfortable.
Weaknesses:fit, used bulky plastic head tensioners, visor lid, weight
Similar Products Used:Giro Xen
Bike Setup:yeti, turner, banshee
Bottom Line:this is almost a great helmet. first fox should have used soft rubber head tensioners in the back instead of bulky plastic ones. second the visor is so retarded, it pops off way to easily while the stupid and pointless spoiler (which i removed) is attached like barnacles to a vessel. also it is a little on the heavy side. I went with the fox though, because the giro xen looked retarded on me, according to friends and it got heat damage on the way to my first ride with it! but the xen was more comfortable and was lighter.

Strengths:Looks great, feels like i was born inside one
Weaknesses:pricy, hot(!!), almost heavy as a full-face, visor eventually fell off
Similar Products Used:Full-face and XC helmets.
Bike Setup:frame, tires, and all the other cool hardware that connects them
Bottom Line:The visor kept coming loose with even the slightest force (e.g. while adjust sunglasses). Eventually the visor was lost while riding with the helmet strapped to my pack. Helmet does not look cool, and i have painful sun in my eyes. When i get my hands on a replacement i'll glue it in place.
For XC rides i've gone back to my old shallow road-like helmet.

Weaknesses:can't peel off the little fox head logo's
Similar Products Used:bucket, jofa hockey helmet, protec, giro etc.
Bike Setup:09 Cannondale Rize 4
Bottom Line:Doesn't feel like youre wearing a protec, but offers just about the same coverage. Gives you good helmet courage! Visor snaps on/off which is a plus. Nice big vents. Still light weight. Rear "spoiler" gets me extra traction too. The retention system works really well, you could pretty much ride it w/o a chin strap. I bought it in the white/grey and its definitely more white w/ faint light grey speckles. If you like to ride everywhere on the mtn, this is a great choice. Might get you some funny looks/comments on the road rides tho...

Strengths:Looks good, fits well and protects your head. Fox offers replacement liners and you can also remove the liner to wash it. It also has more coverage at the back of your head.
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:This is my first helmet.
Bike Setup:2007 Fisher HiFi Deluxe with a few goodies.
Bottom Line:Well, considering this is my first helmet, I tried on many and discovered that all open face helmets are adjustable and fit well. With that said, I think it really just comes down to brand preference and look. Personally, I like Fox products and I like the way this helmet looks. I over paid, but that's normally the story if you shop at Mike's Bikes. If you are looking for a helmet that stands out, then get this one.

super strong, most comfortable helmet I have ever owned. Even lighter than my road helmet and fits better than anything else tried
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:bell, specialized, giro
Bike Setup:which one
Bottom Line:I ride Dh, XC, Cyclocross, Road and Freeride. Besides the mandatory full face I must use when racing DH, I use this helmet everyday for everyride. I only replaced it with a new one recently because I fell 10' -head first-off a cliff into a pile of rock. No dents, bit of a scratch on the helmet but it didn't collapse and neither did I. I didn't even get a headache, and continued to race. I have owned many other helmets and wiped out with them resulting in them collapsing, exploding, etc. If they keep making the Flux, I'll always trust it.

Price Paid: $100.00
Purchased At:Pine Mountain Sports
Strengths:Nice looking, cool, provides solid protection. Fits well and is adjustable.
Weaknesses:Quality is suspect... Decals come off easily, visor is worthless (lost one already / Fox sent a replacement)... Now the Plastic Strip for the rachet system broke... I have never crashed in this helmet. Fox will not warranty the part and it will cost $15.00 to fix. I am going to fix it, but with the personal commitment to purchase another Giro Xen as my next helmet in a year or so. The strip broke when I picked up the helmet by holding the rachet system. Really cheap plastic... Not strong...
Similar Products Used:Giro and Bell products

Bottom Line:Pretty much with all helmets make sure they fit perfectly. The Flux has heaps of protection which is why I bought it however as I have a small head it does move around a touch so needs t be readjusted mid ride. This could be fixed if 3 sizes were available.
That being said it is still a top quality helmet.

Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:I seem to have a really odd shaped head because buying headsets, helmets, hats, and sunglasses have always been challenging for me. I went to REI just to try this helmet on (maybe buy online cheaper). This helmet seems made for my head and I bought it on the spot.
Weaknesses:The front visor doesn't seem to be attached all that well. Nothing a little superglue won't fix. It's also twice as expensive as any other helmet I've bought, a hefty premium for switching to name brand like Fox.
Similar Products Used:Mostly Bells or off brands, whatever was cheapest and didn't feel too uncomfortable.
Bike Setup:Specialized Rockhopper
Bottom Line:Great fit, highly adjustable, cool color options, strong rear protection (which I thankfully haven't needed yet) and easily the most comfortable helmet I've used. Value-wise I could probably keep shopping and get away with paying less for something similar but I'm happy.

Strengths:The outer shell is molded over onto the inner lining, sealing the edges smooth with no sharp edges. this also gives it more structural integrity. The helmet fit my head perfectly, better than my Giro. The rear retention system really made the difference in making it fit well. I like the rear protection and style. I bought one of the first on the market, the style caught my eye. It all paid off when I crashed on a downhill. otb landed on my head, the helmet flattend on top and cracked. I got a concussion, fractured neck and back, 4 days in the ICU, but I am alive and have full leg and arm movement.

Weaknesses:The plastic piece that holds the rear 'adjustor' came out. Finally, after messing around with it after 6 months...I was able to fix it. Apparently I'm retarded because once I cracked the code...I was able to piece it back together and haven't had a problem since.

This helmet does a great job at preventing sweat from dripping into my eyes. Also, the chin strap has 2-3 different adjustments to ensure comfort. Previous reviews mentioned something about not being able to adjust the visor...gay! It's a friggin helmet...it will have the occasional faults! I wear sunglasses when riding, so I don't depend on a 2" visor to cut the sun from getting into my eyes. Personally, I will pay the additional $$ for style and comfort. I bought this helmet the first month it was released and I haven't been disappointed by anymeans. It looks great and serves it's purpose.

Weaknesses:Defective head strap on the first one I bought. The thread came undone on the right strap and it fell off. The replacement did not have the straps fed through the rear retention system. Fox Customer Support indicated that this is due to a patent issue with Bell. However, their resolution is to just ship out the next batch with the strap not fed through the rear of the helmet which is a totally hokey solution and gives it a COMPLETELY different feel to the rider.

Bottom Line:To receive two helmets with defects is bizarre. I would stay away from Fox helmets until they get their act together. Also, you would expect more for this price. The helmet is not that comfortable either. Additionally, the retention adjustment in the back is always changing -- becoming looser or tighter -- if you set the helmet down etc. Do not buy a helmet based on cool looks. Your life depends on this most critical piece of equipment.

Similar Products Used:Bunch of stuff
Bike Setup:Intense 6.6 with other bits
Bottom Line:Not too impressed with this helmet. I've been riding for over 15 years and have worn, broken and lost my fair share of helmets...none of which I have had many complaints about. This one is just plain uncomfortable. It doesn't sit on my head well, the chin strap is forever loosening, the pads on the inside fall out. It feels heavy and cumbersome. So, I have for sale a used Fox Flux helmet if interested. BTW, i have a pair of Fox Cycling socks that are just sick!!!

Don't care. Helmets are REALLY personal, and this one FITS ME. I forget it's on, i never fiddle with it while I'm riding, never adjust on the fly. Weaknesses:Its pricey & would have liked an adjustable visor...Inner velcro glued pads are not adhered to the helmet...One has peeled away & I will have to glue back in-place...The chin strap buckle is not as well designed as Bell's "No pinch Buckle". I pinched my neck, wont do that again I hope.

Strengths:An actual mtb helmet. Marketed by an off road company (made in italy by agv). Good looks, still slightly resembles the rear of a cruise liner with that plastic thingy.
Color options are great.
Weaknesses:The rear plastic piece???
Helmet has a drainage problem- I had not used sweatbands in helmets in many years, but I had to start wearing one with this helmet. The liquid flows like a river down through the front pads. Danged halo sweatband I purchased to for flood control leaves a groove in my forehead too. Now I have one more piece of gear I have to keep track of between rides.
Visor is too high, I like mine lower, provides better sun/glare blocking when just alittle lower.
The chin strap keeps loosening itself, the retainer rubber thingy doesn't hold tight enough.
Similar Products Used:many
Bike Setup:spec M2 single speed; spec enduro; spec singlecross;
Bottom Line:I'd buy it again, yes, even with those weaknesses I mentioned. I like mtb clothing for mtb riding, and fox is doing a great job in providing me (for purchase) the items in the styles and colors I'm looking for. I go to mtb races in full mtb clothing, not tighty lycra shorts and road gear.
I've enjoyed wearing something different and I've gotten no comments at all about the helmet, either positive or negative. I'm a one helmet rider, it serves all purposes well.

Other than that, the helmet is much cooler than the Xen. The fit is good too. Bottom Line:I have mixed feelings about this helmet. On 1 hand it does provide a much cooler ride than my other helmets, but I just can't come to grips with the poor quality of workmanship on this helmet. When I pulled it of the box I was shocked to find that the patterning on the shell is mostly done with cheezey decals. There really is no excuse for it, my LG OZ-ZY has a much more complicated pattern without resorting to crappy stickers. This helmet also shows wear much faster than any other helmet I've ever worn - My giro indicator is almost 2 years old now, and except for a few dings in the exposed foam it still looks new. The fox on the other hand is covered in scratches, and has some ugly scrapes on the visor and spoiler. Add into this the step pricetag, and you've got an ok helmet that I just expected better of.

Strengths:I liked the comfort level of the helmet, the cam colours (sadly flagged away by Giro on their Xen)and the looks.
It felt solid. It's a good AM helmet.
Weaknesses:The first thing I did when I purchased the helmet was get the 'gay' rear spoiler taken off by the salesman.
Looks stupid and doesn't serve any apparent purpose that I could see.
Otherwise a great helmet.
Similar Products Used:Giro Xen
Bottom Line:I crashed heavily on a sweet flowing singletrack in Colorado (Reno Flag Bear - Crested Butte) in June.
The helmet took a big hit and I was momentarily seeing lovely stars.
The helmet did everything it was meant to. I'm not saying that another like the Xen wouldn't have done the same job but it sure is wonderful to know that it saved your bacon.
Bottom line; without the helmet on on this day I would almost certainly be drinking liquid food through a straw up my noise.
The visor went flying but clipped straight back on without any damage.
Got the helmet checked out by a cycle shop in Crested Butte, fully expecting to throw it away. Expert opinion was that it's all good.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one and I definitely recommend it.

Strengths:more rear coverage than any other vented helmets. solid shell construction. lots of padding and extra pads included are a +.
Weaknesses:paint/finish scratches and peals off easily. 'pad velcro attachments' are not properly glued in place - some are off and rub against your head. cheap plastic visor and spoiler scratches easily. stickers, cheap stickers :)
Similar Products Used:Giro Animas, HEX, ZEN.
Bike Setup:2 wheels
Bottom Line:I like the shell design, it provides more coverage in the back of the head, which is the main reason I purchased this helmet. The product weaknesses I pointed out are mainly cosmetic and needed refinement in production. Paint and finish wont last in the wild, I have already scratched a few sections of the helmet, some came off when I tried to peel off the sticker logo that was not stuck all the way to begin with. Some of the velcro attachments on the side were not properly glued, a couple came off and some off center and rubbed against my head. The pads feel ok, it covers a lot. Overall, it's a good helmet that needs a better finishing touch. I own a couple of Giro helmets one close to 3 years old and its well abused, but not a single scratch on the finish. It's a Bell helmet with a Fox logo, think 2x before you pay $100 :)

Bottom Line:I have a bit of a weird shaped head, and finding a helmet that fit just right has always been a chore. Have tried various MET's & Giro's, and all fit (only just), but were just a bit un-comfy. The Flux was great as soon as a put it on. Plenty of room, plenty of adjustability, plenty of comfort too.
I've got the straight Black color, as the Camo didn't really turn me on...
Kept my head surprisingly cool on a warm day with the venting, and on the long XC & Single tracks that is always a bonus. It gave me the confidence to crank just that little bit harder on the single tracks...
The visor doesn't get in the way while riding, but I still don't know what the spoiler does (except add a bit of visual appeal if you like that kind of thing).
Plus it doesn't look like I'm waiting for special education while riding...
Basically, try one on and if it fits, I'm sure you'll love it!

Honestly, the helmet is so uncomfortable in one spot that it made me return it. Everyone else seems to really like it, but for the money - spend the xtra $10 for the Giro Xen or the lower end Giro Hex both great helmets and Giro really does seem to have a lot to offer from helmets. You should try the unit on at a lbs if you can before buying it so you pick the correct size. I am a medium in a Shoei motocross helmet so the small/medium Flux fit me perfectly out of the box. Favorite Trail:Otero Canyon (yeah..I Know..save it...)
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Fits like a ball cap! Great cooling, great look, and very comfortable. Excellent coverage for the back of your melon. Low profile, no "Dee De Deeee" feeling!
Weaknesses:Needs to come in solid colors, not just the cammo or the "road bike" graffixs.
Similar Products Used:Various Shimano and Bell...
Bike Setup:Old school HARO escape, XT shifters, brakes and drivetrain, Ritchy WCS cranks, Crank Bros Mallot C pedals, FSA BB and Headset, Noleen X-link forks, Sweetskinz tires.
Bottom Line:This brain bucket is like wearing next to nothing at all! I had a 661 Dirt lid for a while a it looked like I was waiting for the short bus! I like the fit of the Flux as well as the overall coverage for my weee head! (I wear a S/M helmet). The visor is great for those anoying branches that tend to get in your face, I still don't get what the spoiler is for...maybe keep my head from bobbling at high speed? Even at only $99 I can't think of anything better for more money.

Favorite Trail:Still open
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:Trail Heads Cyclery
Strengths:It looks alot less "goonish" than other helmets,
Weaknesses:Well of course.. the price. But it was cheaper than some of the other brands.
Similar Products Used:Kryptonics cheapo helmet
Bike Setup:D/B
Bottom Line:I used to be shunned by other riders, at first I thought it was my bike, After I bought my helmet I now feel like a force to be reckoned with. (just kidding)
It feels great and light, has nice venting, looks pretty sweet for a helmet. I don’t feel like Special Ed from crank yankers or The Bench Warmers guy, the straps are comfortable. And it’s a FOX so it means I will go faster now!

Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:Foxracing.com
Strengths:Everything. Comfort, looks, protection
Weaknesses:Nada
Similar Products Used:Giro E2 & Tested Giro Xen
Bike Setup:Cannondale
Bottom Line:More comfortable than any of the Giro's especially the over priced Xen. Well placed vents, great protection, look great. Very streamlined, not "bubbled" like the Xen. Cost competitive. I bought directly from Foxracing.com. Most of the lbs had only the "cammo" color which I wasent into. Online I think they have 4 different colors (maybe more). All I can say is try one on. The Fox Flux just gave Giro a serious run for their money.

Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:slippery pig
Strengths:Comfortable, affordable and it's got a cool rear spoiler
Weaknesses:None so far
Similar Products Used:Giro Xen and E2,Specialized and Bell
Bottom Line:This is the most comfortable helmet I have ever owned in twenty plus years of mountain biking. Usually it takes me 3 or 4 rides to get used to the feel of a new helmet but not with the Flux. It fit like a glove the first ride. Well worth the $99.00 retail price.

Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:fat tire farm
Strengths:Comfort, fit, looks, weight, vents
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:giro zen, other giro helmets
Bottom Line:I never thought I'd find a helmet to replace the zen, but the flux has done it. It fits better, provides more protection, and looks way cooler. The rear *spoiler* will be a subject of discussion, but I think it adds style that no other helmet has.

Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:Competitive Cyclist
Strengths:Fit, looks, lightweight, cool
Weaknesses:None yet
Similar Products Used:Mostly xc Bell helmets.
Bike Setup:05 Speshy XC Pro w/ Manitou Minute 4 130mm
Bottom Line:I've only had this helmet for a couple weeks but so far so good, it is light and suprisingly cool considering the coverage. The fit is excellent and it doesn't make you look like a dork. Everything seems to be well built. If you want a little extra coverage this lid is for you, I wasn't sure about buying something that I couldn't try first because it is so new but I'm certainly not dissapointed.
