Improves Gripshift performance with Shimano ders because it supliments the weak der spring.
Not durable, mine ripped apart.
Increases torsional force needed to shift gears, making shifting slower and tougher.
Cheesy piece of engineering designed to correct another cheesey piece of engineering (weak Shimano spring).
This piece of surgical tubing works, but at the expense of shifting ease. While it does make it possible to get onto the smaller cog, it makes shifting to the larger cog tougher.
After trying this product for a few weeks and ripping it somehow, I decided to give it up and try a Rollamajig. Now there's a good product!! Instead of beefing up the spring to overcome cable drag, the Rollamajig simply reduces cable drag (by 40%, they claim). The Jig solved the problem and even made shifting easier. GET A ROLLAMAJIG INSTEAD.

Rollamajig (the real solution to the problem IMHO)

It really works!

Works as advertised. My old rear derailleur wasn't strong enough for quick, reliable upshifting. I tried all the usual fixes with no result, then I added a Bassworm. Problem solved! It only cost six bucks and took a few minutes to install. If you think your rear derailleur spring is too weak, or if you have some cable drag that you can't get rid of, a Bassworm could solve your problem and save you the cost of a new derailleur. Shop around - I've seen them listed for as low as six bucks and as high as twenty!

Wow - What a difference! This thing really works! It comes recommeded for grip-shift shifters. The elastic tube connects at the hanger just above your rear deraullier and works to keep an even tension against the deraullier spring. It eliminates involuntary shifts and can't weigh more than a couple of grams (<15 for sure)I installed it along with a new cable (as recommended)and my shifting performance is like new again. In fact, it's almost more crisp than when the bike was new. Until I stumbled upon this gem I was considering a new deraullier. Now I'm content and shifting like a Mofo for just $10.You better go get one.
