Bottom Line:
These pedals are engineered beautifully. They have several design features that set them apart from other platform type pedals. The pedal is light, has plenty of grip with 12 round pins per side, and has a useful pin to pin size of 100mm*88mm*25mm. The mx-13 looks great, even in plain black. The Cro-Mo axle is stout, can be put on with a 15mm wrench or 6mm allen key, and with 3 sealed bearings they should stand up well to harsh abuse.
When my pedals arrived, they came preassembled with a 6mm wrench and enough extra pins for one pedal. Upon a side profile view it was clear to see that the plates were misalighned. My pedals were out of aliment and each side of the pedal(s) had a different shape. One side was flat, while the other side was more concave than it was designed to be. The plates on the concave side were bent, but were straight on the flat side of the pedal.
The misalignment was clear to see, when placed on a flat surface.
The pedals pins were all tight.
Nothing is wrong with plate, or axle design.
The pedals plates were not assembled to the axle in the correct sequence!
I will guess that the flat side was assembled first, and torqued.
The plates on the concave side then get assembled; and when torqued causes the bend in the plates.
The pedal then takes its two shape form.
Both left and right pedals were the same, having flat and concave sides. I loosened the pins, and flipped the bent plates over. I then re torqued the pins; starting from the center of the pedal,on both sides, finishing with the outer pins. This corrected the misalignment problem.
I'm happy with the pedal now, but don't like the fact that they had to be aligned right out the box.
