Just tried them on my MTB and will never go back. They came with my old bike and they lasted for a while until they broke on a rock, now i have an excuse to get some Crank Brothers Acids. I've never had problem clipping in or out (except the steep 5-crash clipless learning curve at the start). However, just after my trial run, the left started clicking. Pulled it apart, and there was no grease in the outer bearing. Pulled the other one apart too, and regreased both. Now I really like them, and would never go back to flats. Bearings are rubbish, can be difficult to clip in sometimes. More importantly, can be hard to clip out of sometimes. I use them on my racer now, to scared to use them on mtb, afraid i'll get stuck. In there defence though, I am still using the cleats that came with my Shimano pedals, which are meant to be interchangeable. Part of pedal that actually grabs the cleat broke off on mine (see below). This part should be stronger/larger than it is. | | Similar Products Used: | Replaced these with Shimano PD-M520's | | Bike Setup: | C-Dale hardtail, stock except for pedals (Shimano PD-M520) and wheels (Mavic x238 with deore hubs) | | Bottom Line: | These pedals are decent pedals for a beginner rider, or for something cheap to get you by for a few months. They were my first set of clipless pedals and I liked them when I had them, as I had never ridden anything else.
In retrospect they don't release as nicely as my Shimano's do, which is how I broke them (trying to force my way out of them quickly). I rode them for about 4 months of hard abuse. I bounced them off of countless rocks and took them through the mud. They aren't sealed very well for muddy or wet riding, when I took them off the bearings on one of them were a little rough rolling.
I wouldn't buy them again, especially for the $40 that I payed for them, but they can be had for about half that, and they would be a good cheap pedal to buy to see if you like clip-ins. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |
