Favorite Trail:Alum Creek, Columbus
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $82.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:function, quality, utilitarian
Weaknesses:utilitarian
Similar Products Used:road Speedplay pedals, PowerGrips
Bike Setup:late 90's Raleigh -- a great beater bike.
Bottom Line:I'm really happy with this product. Quality is good, they seem to be pretty light and work like a charm. They are so much easier to get into as compared to my road Speedplay pedals. Clipless is so much more fun than the PowerGrips pedals I was using before -- I have so much more control and connection to my bike.

Favorite Trail:3Stage
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Great value, very well built, maintenance free, solid engagement and dis-engagement, works well in mud and snow. A great improvement over the 7 and 8 series pedals from Shimano!
Weaknesses:No major weakness. If I had to nit-pick I'd say it's not the lightest pedal and might not shed mud as well as some designs.
Similar Products Used:PD-M858, PD-M959
Bottom Line:These pedals are almost identical to the top of the line M959/M970 pedal with the exception of some minimal weight savings and they cost a fraction of the price of the 9 series pedals. The release and engagement mechanism looks identical and I can't tell the difference in performance with the pair of M959 I have on my other bike. The best thing about all Shimano pedals is they are bullet proof. I've smacked these pedals on rocks so hard I was sure they'd be cooked. But every time I'd check them out, they were fine. Not sure how a composite body pedal or those cage pedals would fair after a similar impact. Also their bearings run smooth for ever. Ideal for any type of mountain biking/biking with the exception of the obvious DH & FR.
