Strengths:    You cannot break these pedals. I have smacked them on every rock in central Texas and they work like new.

Weaknesses:    None, unless you really care about weight. I'm 230 lbs, so 310 grams for XTR's vs 352 grams for the M-540's means nothing to me.

Bottom Line:
Spend $50 on these pedals and forget about them. They will be the most reliable part on your bike. The XT and XTR versions may be fractionally better but why spend the extra cash?

Strengths:    quick and easy

Weaknesses:    none so far - maybe weight IF youre a hardcore racer looking to save grams

Bottom Line:
i found the acids awkward to get in and out of - although they felt a tad lighter. I like the Shimano pedals WAY better - SOOOOOO much easier in and out and that leads to more confidence in tricky areas. I think they are a great pedal for BRAND newbies as well as most guys(or girls) up to the near elite racers. The step up to the 900 series would then be the next logical pedal. Ya cant go wrong with these!

Strengths:    Durability, Good mud clearance, adjustability

Weaknesses:    none really

Bottom Line:
They've been through the mill and still work like new. They are all beat up but hold their release settings remarkably constant. To the folks who claim the bearings wear out easily I ask: do you ever wipe the mud and water off of them? Do you weigh over 200lbs and have steel quads? For all us others I think their great pedals. Can't see how the top line pedal could be any better?

I switched to these from crank brothers candys. Much easier to unclip in emergency situations. Should have bought these over candys in the first place.

Strengths:    Durability

Weaknesses:    If I was going to be picky it would be the Shimano logo wears off very quick. This does not affect there great performance.

Bottom Line:
These pedals have been used and abused for years and have given faultless performance. So much so I just bought a new set for my new bike. Not because these ones are worn out, its just their scratched beaten up appearance looks out of place on my shiny new bike.

Strengths:    Shimano quality.(See Wikipedia)

Weaknesses:    None,Zip,Zero,Nada

Bottom Line:
I've had these pedals for about three months. This is the rainy season here in Oregon.I've ridden in dry weather maybe twice with these pedals.Right out of the box with ZERO adjustments, these pedals have worked flawless! After a muddy ride all I do is knock the mud off of them and forget about them! With CB pedals there was always grinding, squeaking, plastic end caps missing, bearings, spindals, etc, etc. If you are tired of inferior product, for the price, try these pedals!

Strengths:    Very durable. I have smashed these on the rocks of Bald Eagle/Rothrock Forest's here in Central PA. They take a beating and keep on going.

Weaknesses:    ....can't think of one yet.

Bottom Line:
These pedals weigh the same as Shimano's XT pedals (or nearly), yet they are like 35-40% cheaper! They are extremely durable. When others have had issues clipping in....I've never had issues getting into them (even when covered in mud/leaves/snow etc.).

Strengths:    Superb. The cleats missed "the target" so many times but, leave no scratching marks at all on the pedals.

Weaknesses:    so far, none

Bottom Line:
This pedal is perfect. Easy to clip in/out. Take seconds to setting the spring and voila!.. you're ready to go. The price is surprisingly very affordable for this kinda quality.

Strengths:    Easy to clip in/out
Strong & consistant
Easily adjusted
Got them at a great price

Weaknesses:    Not alot realy, Bit of surface rust starting to show
Maybe a bit weighty if your worried about that sort of thing.
Looking at getting another set for my new bike and the price now is double what I paid last time.

Bottom Line:
These things take some abuse.
I have scraped them on the concrete road, they still work.
Smashed them over rocks, they still work
Had enough mud on my shoes that I could barly walk, and they still cliped in with no probs.
Bloody strong, highly recommend.
