I've laid, thrown, and slid my bike down on gravel, cement, and hard dirt and the sides arent chipped or bent. The paint job has only come off in those cases. $25.00 | | Purchased At: | Out-and-About Gear | | Strengths: | Extremely Strong and durable. I have bashed these guys on rocks numerous of times. I think the rocks hate it more than the peddals. Seriously, these peadals can take the abbuse like a champ. Plus the metal cleats are replaceable and the pedals should come with several spare cleats. Another great quality is that the platform is very big. Lots of space if you like wearing large shoes like I do. Did I mention that they just look bad azz on my bike? | | Weaknesses: | seals pop off easily, but is fixed just as easy. Just put some of the blue goop used to lock bolt threads on them. I haven't had a single issue after that. This shouldn't keep you from buying the pedals. | | Similar Products Used: | Old crappy stock peddals that were bent and beat to their death. | | Bike Setup: | Trek 6500. Shimano XTR derailurs/shifters. Avid Mech Disc Breaks. Tru Vative Evolve DH Crank/BB. Hope Bulb hubs. Sun Ringle Rims. | | Bottom Line: | I'm a fat bastage when it comes to bikers (230 lb), and I like to ride hard on rough terrain. These pedals take the abuse like a champ and give me the traction I need. I never have to worry about rocks any more. Just don't let your foot slip off or you will find out why they are called meat tenderizers. :) Buy these pedals if you want a heavy duty platform pedal that take abuse from rocks. Don't buy these pedals if you are picky about weight.

I just put them on last night and 10 minutes into my first ride with them I endoed hard. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Red anodized finish looks pretty good at first glance but its quality is cheap and the finish is already missing in a few places. Left pedal bearing felt really rough when I spun it in my hand but I haven't noticed any problems once installed. They're very heavy and negate any performance benefits I'd get with my forged aluminum RaceFace cranks, but this is just my errand everyday cruise around town bike so I don't care that much. I've used these pedals for a long time and haven't had any problems. I use them on both my Gemini, and my daily go to work and back, general trail bike. I've heard people say that they've had problems with the bearing covers, missing pins, bent shafts. I have experienced no such problems in two years of use. I ride year round daily, rain, snow, slush, sun whatever and have never redone the bearings or needed to replace a pin. They still spin like new. I stated that they were slick when they get wet, well these are really a BMX pedal and not designed for all conditions. You can't complain when you use something where it's not supposed to be, I said that as more a warning than a fault. People who are looking for a cheap but good pedal should check them out. Yes these were designed to be a BMX pedal wich means certain things. They are very strong for rock impacts, like when bmxers slide off of a grind and hit the pedal. But this also means they dont have many holes in them so mud sits on them. They are also knurled wich alows water to cling to them. They have super strong spindles incase you like throwing your bike and the pedal catching on a curb in the process. They are unsealed and cheap, bmxers like things cheap and dependable. BMX bikes are steel and arnt riding in muddy conditions so y use sealed baeringsand jack up the cost? For BMX they are great, buy a pair grind the hell outa them and buy a new pair in 3 months...painless. For mountain, mud sticks to them and they get slippery and the bearings die in a few rides. They are also a small pedal, with lots of concave so its like standing on an invirted golfball. If you like o move your foot to the outside for one footed cornes there is no pedal there, they are quite narrow. So take the pros and cons and apply it to what you want in a pedal. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Some of the other reviewers say that the pins come out, thats what the little baggie that the pedals come with are for!! And these things held up really well going through rock gardens and such i've hit them hard enough to gouge chunks out but they still work like the first day i got them. i was a little diappointed that the gold paint started wearing off but thats what smashing and whacking and scrapiong them does. so if you wanna try platofrms and not waste your money these are a good deal. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Victoria, BC, Canada Date Reviewed: August 4, 2001 | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Good Grip | | Weaknesses: | Bearings are not well protected. | | Bottom Line: | These pedals are great! But not if your riding environment consists of mud. On my first mud ride the bearing covers popped off. Now the bearings have to be removed and re-packed. Winters here are wet. I don't want to clean bearings every day. :(
So if you live in a desert these are the pedals for you. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Mississauga Date Reviewed: April 2, 2001 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Original strong design. fairly lightweight. replacable pins. Nice big platform. | | Similar Products Used: | DK Iron cross pedals | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line? The bottom line is that these pedals were meant for BMX, not mountain biking. BMXing is way more harsh then mountainbiking. Therefore the reason the bearings are unsealed, other than keeping the price down is, so when they do bend, they still spin. at $40 for a pair of pedals, thats not to bad. These things do have bad spindles and do bend, who cares? deal with it. Better than spending $150 for a pair of shimano DX pedals. Stupid. Another cheap pedal is the mosh, sealed bearings. Primo now has a new pedal out called the Primo Pro pedal, it has a nice price tag on it tho. A flamin' chill? yeah, must be a mtb site. later dudes. RIP IT UP....haha. try to anyways. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$30.00 | | Strengths: | Cheap, good grip, concave platform, a nice change from clipless.... | | Weaknesses: | Can be slick when wet (good shoes help a lot), no cartridge bearings and sometimes the little bearing seal come out and let crap in there. Uck. | | Bottom Line: | A good pedal. Does the job without questions asked. The bearing thing is a bit annoying (only on crank side of the pedals though) and who cares how many times they spin. If you're riding flats you're probably not concerned with losing that extra tiny little bit of energy to pedal friction. I use them for trials, trail riding, and just beating around. You know it took a little bit of practice to learn to hop and pick up the bike on flats as opposed to clipless, but I'm so used to them now it's actually harder to hop on clipless! A nice change, try them out. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$30.00 | | Purchased At: | local shop | | Strengths: | Grip Good deal for the $$ | | Weaknesses: | Axles bend easy bearings suck
| | Similar Products Used: | Azonic A-frame, GT platforms | | Bottom Line: | These pedals grip really nice. For the money, they are. But for the money you also get cheap bearings and the axles bend if you do anything big. I bent my left axle bailing off my bike down a big flight of steps. My buddy bent his the first day he had 'em dropping an 8-footer. If you're not doing anything too crazy, they're a nice pedal, if you are consider something better, with sealed bearings, and definately stronger axles. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$30.00 | | Purchased At: | dan's | | Strengths: | grip, shape, size, color, quality construction. | | Weaknesses: | they are heavier than other pedals, but i prefer the sturdier construction and bigger platform even with a weight penalty. | | Similar Products Used: | cheap stock platforms, time atac's, rockwerke's spd pedals. | | Bike Setup: | fisher hardtail with lots of mods. | | Bottom Line: | i am a beginner and not a very good technical rider. i prefer to use platforms on rocky, root-infested trails with lots of log crossings. i took one bad fall when i got hung up in my time's and it cost me a fractured tibia and 6 weeks riding time(bummer!). no knock against the atac's, they are a great pedal and i still use mine a lot. it was my own fault that i didn't get unclipped. still feel more secure and confident when trying tough sections in my primos. platforms have a technique of their own that takes a little adaptation. you have to learn to tilt the pedal down a bit on the upstroke and pull back. they're not as efficient as clip-ins, but you can do a fairly good job of pedaling circles with them. still working on my bunnyhop with them, it's more difficult than with clip-ins. i find the different riding styles(platform and clip-in) add enjoyment and variety to my mountain biking. i see a lot of riders on the forums arguing the merits of each kind. a good pedal wrench and less than 5 minutes time is all it takes to enjoy your riding both ways. for anyone wanting to go back to platforms, i highly recommend the primos. they are a quality product and an excellent value. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$30.00 | | Purchased At: | Reser's | | Strengths: | Price grip galore! smooth bearings They're huge (even for platforms) Replaceable pins | | Weaknesses: | ummm... I guess they're a little on the heavy side but I don't mind. | | Similar Products Used: | none (other than cheap plastic pedals which I had broken two sets of them before I got these) | | Bike Setup: | '99 Schwinn Mesa GSX Aluminum Marzocci Z.4 flylight air fork XT rear deralier Primo Super Tenderizer pedals | | Bottom Line: | These are the best pedals for the price.Period. If you get on the really rough terrain you will never loose your footing. Even if you do get knocked off you will find them again before would loose control. The bottom line is that as long as you don't freak out about the extra weight then they are well worth it. So if you are a DH, Freestyle, or an XC rider who wants grip and don't care about the weight, then these pedals are for you. If you don't want these pedals then you probably want a set of clipless pedals which start at about $35-$40. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Both times were on small drops (3-4 feet), so Im kinda surprised that the pedals didn't break earlier in the season on the bigger drops/jumps. Overall, if the spindles were stronger, These would be the perfect pedals. But I don't want to compromise on strength especially, so I'm looking for some pedals with stronger spindles (like the KORE platforms - 9/16 thread, but with a straight non-tapered 1/2 4130 spindle). I take one chili away cuz they break, but I got 9 months out of them, so that gives them a 4. | Overall Rating: |

One of the traction pegs has come out, but they give you replacements. I got the pedals at cost through the Schwinn rep at the shop I work at. Theyre a great deal at retail and even better at dealer cost. The back of my left leg hooked up with the pegs on a bad stairwell ride and its healing nicely. It went about 6 up my leg and left nice chunks of torn skin hanging off. And I've totally converted from any clipless use to all flat pedal use, so I guess that means the only pedals worth getting period!!! Learn to ride a bike the REAL way.....get platform pedals! All other flat pedals I've tried have felt sloppy in the bearings, except maybe the black widows. These feel silky smooth, even after months of bashing the f*ck out of em doing trials and slammin' downhills/falling off 3m high logs (I went thru a pair of Odyssey triple traps in less than a month doin the same sh*t!). And the aggressive pins give better grip than anything else, too. Great pedals, just ask any serious DH'er or trials rider. And for $25!!!!
