Date Reviewed: September 17, 2006
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Torpedo7.com
Strengths:Light
Cheap
Well made and well finished
Work well
Appear to be strong
Use Shimano cleats - get cleats anywhere.
Open design for mud shedding.
Weaknesses:None found as yet!
Similar Products Used:Various VP's, Shimano, and Eggbeaters
Bike Setup:Tomac Taos - Reba SL, SRAM X9, Mavic, Easton etc.
Bottom Line:I wanted some cheap but respectable pedals for my XC hardtail, and found these on Torpedo7.com for a paltry $60 AUD. This is a bargain for light, fully featured pedals - especially ones with such a nice finish.

They are very well finished, with a pleasing goldish grey colour and polished axles. There is an alloy threaded cap (not plastic!) to access the axle nut and outside bearing, making rebuilding easy. The axle has a nice, deep Allen key hole - no provision for a pedal wrench.

They are a very open design. So they should work well in mud. As usual, they offer adjustable tension, a big advantage over Eggbeaters IMO. They come with Exustars' cleats but Shimanos work.

I've banged a few rocks and it hasn't worried them at all.

Favorite Trail:Bedugul
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $35.00
Strengths:robust engagement, quite strong body - it banged very hard to trail rock the last time I ride, only minor scratch. Mud-shedding ability is good, and it's lightweight too. You get more than you paid for.
Weaknesses:None yet.
Similar Products Used:Shimano 520 & 540
Bike Setup:Yeti ARC hardtail
Bottom Line:You get a lot more than you paid for. Similar price to the SPD 540, with performance and quality close to the 959
Value Rating:5Overall Rating:5
