$80.00 | | Strengths: | Extremely strong and durable. very grippy | | Weaknesses: | Chews up your shoes after a while but that's to be expected. The pins can give you some nasty gashes if your foot slips off. | | Similar Products Used: | Plastic pedals, Aluminium pedals, clipless pedals... Mainly shimano | | Bike Setup: | Not interesting | | Bottom Line: | Very very good pedals. I bought these to replace some squeaky cheap pedals I bought a while ago. Also bought them because I like the freedom you get when your feet aren't "locked" to the bike.
I've mainly had shimano stuff before this and have had a range of problems from bent shafts to muddy bearings (as most low end shimanos have crap seals).
These pedals are well sealed (well it's not a seal as such but it does a good job at keeping muck out), and solid. Not to mention extremely light. And cheap. Too many god things about these pedals to mention.
The weaknesses listed above go for all platform pedals of this style and are more of a warning to people who may be considering proper platform pedals. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

When you get them they need setting up. Steps have been outlined in others reviews, basically... tighten screw grubs, press in pins, pack it with MORE grease than what comes with it, and... Refer to http://www.dmrbikes.com/res/CMSFiles/V8%20Maintenance.pdf
Take off the end cap as in pdf above, tighten/loosen nut under cap until you feel first tiny bit of grinding/resistance when spinning then loosen the bolt roughly an eighth of a turn (use common sense, this was the amount I found practical) this will ensure bearings last a lot, lot longer. Both my pedals were grinding out the box.
Otherwise once setup a great pedal, but make sure you put the 15mins of time into it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I got free DMR stickers in my box too! | | Weaknesses: | Not sure there's enough grease in the box, but it feels good when you inject the grease in the grease port. | | Similar Products Used: | I-Drive | | Bike Setup: | Kona Cinder Cone, XT Hubs, Hollowtech crank, XT discs, Mainly LX drive train, Race Face HandleBar and Stem, DT Swiss rims. | | Bottom Line: | These are so grippy, that no mud, stone, or wetness has made them slippy for myself. Probably worth wearing suitable footwear, like flat hard soles.
If you have stock plastic pedals, I would bin them and get these. If, like myself, you're on a budget, don't like SPDs, then these could be for you.
My shins are fine, but I did wear pads for a while to be sure. I got more damage from the pads rubbing than the pedals. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Doesn't come with enough grease to use on one pedal. Small PITA to adjust, because if they were left as is the bearings wouldn't last a week. The grip pin thingies easily got deformed. | | Similar Products Used: | generic $5 platforms | | Bike Setup: | 2007 stumpjumper fsr comp, raceface rings and bashguard | | Bottom Line: | I don't like clipless so I got myself a nice set of platforms. Biggest issue was just adjusting the bearings so they're not too tight. Out of the box the resistance on them was high and you could feel grinding. As soon as I fixed that, they were superb.
And forget your shins. Bloody things tore up the back of my leg and the back of my knee. Hurts a lot more than your shins!
Despite the fairly large list of minor weaknesses I would buy these again without question. They are not much more than the crummy basic ones you find at any store. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$30.00 | | Purchased At: | dutch cycle, regina | | Strengths: | Good looks, very easy to work on/maintain, inexpensive. | | Weaknesses: | not set up well to begin with, pins came loose. don't like the chintzy plastic end cap that looks as if it will fall out at any moment,(but hasn't yet, so I'll cool my jets). | | Similar Products Used: | truvative "super-slippy" model, axiom double jump. | | Bike Setup: | Haro Escape 8.3 with a bunch of truvativ stuff and avid brakes | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line? Hmmm...well, okay. If you want these pedals to last, then be prepared to set them up. Mine needed to have the bearings adjusted, which was simple to do and they also needed to have the pins secured a little better, which was also easy. With loose ball bearings and a simple cup and cone set-up, a semi-competent mech can easily set the bearings "just right". That's good because odds are they will need a slight tweak. When set up right, bearings will last a long time. Let them run too tight and it's over really quickly. The little grease gun that comes with is just a novelty item. It doesn't really work. Instead, just pop off the end cap and shove some good grease in with your thumb until it squirts out the other side. Greased pedals made easy.Next, take the pedals, a small hammer, and a block of wood and tap in the silver pins. They're just pressed in and they can wiggle loose. I found mine were not all pressed in as well as they should have been. Set the pedal on the block of wood, take the hammer and tap in the pins. I did this and haven't lost any yet. Keep an eye-ball on them. Overall, I like the looks, the easy service-ability and the low price. They look like they should cost more than they do and that's cool. They aren't the finest pedal in the world, but they seem to be a good value. No reflector holes also makes them look pro-moto and not department store-ish. So far, I like them. Who should buy them? Someone who doesn't mind, or even enjoys, working on his /her own stuff to make them "perfect". | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

This can be avoided by wearing shin pads! | | Similar Products Used: | Cheapy Kore 1s supplied on my bike | | Bike Setup: | Saracen Xile (cheap) with truvativ compontents 8 speed | | Bottom Line: | Great pedal, all you really need when starting out. I wouldn't try anything else after these apart from the model up. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I've had countless ocassions when my shins have been pouring with blood, and a friend of mine crashed so badly that we had to stamp on the opposite pedal to get it out of his leg. I don't ride trails on this bike, so I can't attest to their abilty to smack rocks, but I have ditched the bike, dropped the bike, and generally abused the bike on several occasions and we know where it lands first -- the pedals.

$25.00 | | Purchased At: | Launch Bikes | | Strengths: | Strong, replacable pin, can stand up to abuse | | Weaknesses: | Bearings are crap, worn pins caused me to slip leaving a big hole in my shin so i could see the bone. Done this twice. | | Similar Products Used: | Rob Warner Pedals(much better value) | | Bike Setup: | DMR Trailstar, Delta TL forks, Magura Racelines etc | | Bottom Line: | Good pedals for the money although you might want to grease the bearings to make it work smoother. Dont use with worn pins results of a slipped pedal aint good. Other than that a great pedal | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

After One month of monster drop offs with no complaints I was riding to one of my trails and without warning my left peddle locked up!!! Upon disection one of the bearings had split in two, not good so I purchased the V12's and no problems for 4 months, so pay the extra, Its worth it!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Whilst the cage is truely excellent, the bearings (as shipped) are worse than useless (I was expecting this, hence wasn't too annoyed).
I had to spend an hour or so stripping, greasing, and rebuilding the pedals before use. However, once this is done they are excellent.

From the moment you put it on you can feel the difference. It provides good grip at a good price and is very stylish! Just hope it doesn't hit your shins!!!! Go out and buy it now! Bearings don't stand up to wet muddy conditions very well. These are big pedals that ground easily. A bit heavy as well. Pins drop out and the threads strip. | | Similar Products Used: | VP toe clip type pedals | | Bike Setup: | Marin East Peak, bog standard. | | Bottom Line: | If you like this type of pedal, and you can afford it, spend a bit extra on sealed bearings. SPDs will give you more power though... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I might try and drill them out. Great pedals, no problems slipping off them once I got used to them and they drilled holes in my shoes. Oh, and they're the only pedals that don't feel like they push into my feet at the centre of them. get v12's if U can afford them | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Look good and comfortable. | | Weaknesses: | Won't last forever as cheap bearings and race is made up as part of pedal. | | Similar Products Used: | GT pedals on my BMX (does this count) | | Bike Setup: | Specialised FSR funky aluminium thingy. | | Bottom Line: | I'm new to m/biking but already starting to sort out the good from the crap. These pedals are great on a budget but I'm going to buy V12's this week. Same grip, style etc but with sealed bearings. Spin both side by side in shop to see difference. V8's will set you back around £20 but for but for another £16 I would opt for V12's. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Bearings | | Similar Products Used: | 98 V8's | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale CAAD3 + Fatty D, Crowbars, f+r Magura's (soon f Hope O2 Pro), XT drivechain | | Bottom Line: | Very good pedals although axle strength and bearing quality let them down. My axle is bent and my bearings are mashed after 6 months. Saving up for V12's (or maybe Brooklyn Machine Works Shin Burgers if i can stretch to it) which have CrMo axles and sealed, quality bearings. Good pedals... for a while. Almost 4 chilis.
