Strengths: Look fantasticWeaknesses: Press fitted needle bearing with no way to extractBottom Line: I got these to match the bike, and they looks fantastic. Best looking pedals I've ever seen. Function is excellent, love the extra float. Piece of cake to clip out of, although the entry requires a slightly different movement to Shimano SPDs that takes a bit of getting used to.
I'm fine with having to rebuild pedals once a year, and the rebuild kits come with clear instructions. Everything about the rebuild is easy except for the needle bearing. It is press fitted into the pedal, and the instructions say to use a small screwdriver to pry it out. That is optimistic, in the same way as a small child trying to fly by flapping their arms is optimistic. On the first pedal I just managed to get it out far enough to get some pliers on the outer race, and pulled it out the rest of the way (using a vice and hitting the pliers with a hammer). Second one broke off and just left the outer race embedded in the pedal, and from what I can see on the 'net this is what normally happens. Off to the hardware store tomorrow to find a tap that I can screw into it and pull it out with.
I love everything about these pedals, except they require servicing and are damn near impossible to service. What a tragic and stupid flaw in a great set of pedals.

Strengths: light, look cool in magazines (but not in person)Weaknesses: reliability, serviceability, platform is useless. Paint a weird Chevy block orange in person.Bottom Line: Finally figured out the creaking was coming from the pedals. Ordered rebuild kit. After lots of grunting and cussing, the needle bearing came out of the first, rebuilt it, and it's still not smooth. Rebuilt the 2nd, couldn't pry the needle bearing out with a flat tip as instructions suggest. Tore everything from the inside of the bearing I could grip. The shell of the needle bearing remains stuck to the inside of the pedal, with no remaining surface to pry against. Promptly disassembled other and put the whole mess in the blue recycle bin. The spindles inside are surprisingly thin. These pedals are WAAAAAY over priced. The platforms are useless. I'm sticking with Shimano in the future, and hoping I have better luck with the Joplin I just bought.

Strengths: Light, some platformWeaknesses: Springs have broken TWICE in 2 years. Broke at the COIL - so no impact damage.
The first time CB replaced the springs at no cost. Now one of the "new" springs is broken - less than a year these new springs.Bottom Line: I weigh only 165, and use these on my 6" AM/ lite FR bike.
I do get minor air on this bike, and have always had a problem with these pedals un-clipping in the air or upon landing.
My next set will be Time XROC S.

Strengths: Great platform, common cleat system, reasonable weightBottom Line: I use all Crank Bros pedals because I can use the same cleats & shoes on all my bike. These pedals are saved for heavy duty rides when I want more platform for technical sections I may ride uncliped. I also use them on my Track bike (yes, in a velodrome) mainly beucase they match the color scheme of that bike - but they are light & smooth enough to work great on a 15lb track bike as well as a burly MTB.

Strengths: Easy clip in & out; constructionWeaknesses: None so farBottom Line: I put these on my Felt Q720 hardtail and I love the 4 sided entry system. The left pedal while it works great when I pedal or apply pressure makes a slight gritty sound. I know it is a cleat adjustment issue but it can be annoying. But don't get me wrong, it does not affect the pedals performance. It is if only if your in tune with your bike and the sounds it makes will it cause you to go insane. I am sure if I adjust the cleat on my shoe this may go away. The spindles on the pedal seem strong and the pedals rotate easily. Cleaning and shedding mud is a breeze too. These are great so far and I know CB pedals have been getting bad reviews but I ride hard and no issue as far as performance with these. I also bought Acid 1's for my full suspension build which look like the 2's and they are flawless! I love CB pedals. I give these a 4 just because of the noise. I would give a 4.5 but that was not an option. I do wish the paint finish was just a bit more durable is reason for no perfect 5. These will get scratched up, so get prepared if you ride hard. But afterall, that is mtn. biking.
