Weaknesses:After first 10mi ride the right pedal got sloppy & loose. Could not be tightened inner nut stripped.

Strengths:None
Weaknesses:Bearings are junk, grease caps broke off in the wind.

Bike Setup:KHS road Bike
Bottom Line:Bought these for my wife's bike thinking it was a good design, and it is. Just the quality of this model of pedal is crap. After a 40 mile road ride both pedals showed significant play. I pulled the pedals apart after buying a rebuild kit for the eggbeaters... wrong.. these are just tiny bearing sittng on crappy bearing races.. not sealed replacable bearings.. I tried contacting Abaxo about this and got no satifaction. DO NOT Buy crank brothers pedals from abaxo, according to Crank Brothers they will not warranty even new pedals sold anywhere but one of their licenced retailers.. Abaxo is not. Also wasn't impressed with the interaction i had with crank brothers... too bad.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:none so far
Weaknesses:right pedal not properly threaded
Bike Setup:K2 enemy cyclocross
Bottom Line:The right pedal was not threaded far enough along, with the result that it did not seat fully in the crank. Was sticking out by nearly 2 mm! Result was total destruction of half the threading in the right crank after less than 100 miles.

I tried this pedal in 3 different bikes. In 2 cranks it did not screw in fully, though it did seat properly in a Shimano Deore crank.

Crank Bros should be ashamed of peddling this crap. K2 bikes also, as this pedal came with the K2 enemy cyclocross, and it would not screw fully into the FSA Omega Compact MexaEXO cranks that it came with!

Cannot recommend.

Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Nashbar
Strengths:None.
Weaknesses:Low quality chrome finish.
Bearings made from swiss cheese.
Too much money for 10 rides.
Similar Products Used:Nashbar Brad SPD copies, Ritchey V4 SPD's, Shimano M540's.
Bike Setup:Motobecane Outcast 26", Noleen telelever front fork, WTB Speedmaster rims, LX crank, Nashbar Jailbrakes, Easton bar and stems, ERGON grips, Avid Speed Dial 7 levers, Rock Shox suspension seat post, WTB Speed-V saddle.
Bottom Line:Very disappointed with this product. Got the MXR's from Nashbar on sale and got a nice price. My old Nashbar SPD copies were over 5 years old and starting to be played out. I liked the idea of the float and simple design, but the extremely poor quality of construction makes them unusable. I'm 5'11", 215lbs and ride a singlespeed so I may be a little harder on pedals than the average user, but my old ones lasted 5 years. The chrome plating on the pedals was flaking off within 30 days of purchase (8 rides) and the bearings were shot in one pedal and loose in the other after 10 rides. They rusted and basically were completely unusable within 60 days (and I ride in the Triangle region of NC and we can't ride wet trails around here...). Crank Brothers had a good reputation by word of mouth in the area, but I can't see this lasting long. Do yourself a favor and avoid these pedals.
Kudos to Nashbar however for taking them back 75 days after purchase.

Bottom Line:Really nasty. Chrome plating peeling atter 3 months. Bearings freezing up solid. Whacked it really hard with a hammer and it freed up, but probably not for long. Rust going on. Rough edges, grabby, unpredictable release. Not in the same league with other Crank Bros. pedals. The best I can say is they sort of work. Spend a few extra bucks for decent pedals. Avoid these.

Bottom Line:i don't thnik you should buy these, they wear out and break after only one month, just pay a little more and get C's,which are waaaay better, most important thing is that the sping on mxr is weak and made out of plain steel, and the c's have the almost same type of spring as the 4ti's,300series steel. I broke the sping on mxr,and i am never going to ride mxr ever again,i am waitin for the warranty so i can sell the mxr's and get c's.

Bike Setup:Cannondale Rush 4
Bottom Line:I bought a replacement set of the egg beaters after one of the pedals that came with my bike broke within the first month. The most frustrating thing is that my feet seem to pop out of these pedals way too easily often and occasionally I can't get it to release when I want to. Then, when I was doing a long climb last week my one shoe felt like the cleat was loose and was moving around, but actually the cleat was completely secure. I'm going back to the Time's.

Weaknesses:They're junk.
Similar Products Used:Crank Brothers Candy C pedals.
Bike Setup:Salsa Casseroll, Campy Centaur stuff
Bottom Line:These pedals are junk. They're junk. I went out my way to submit this review so that everyone is clear that these pedals are junk. I own two pairs of Candy C pedals from Crank Brothers and they, in stark contrast to these junky pedals, quite nice. When I first installed these pedals the left one was extraordinarilly sloppy. So sloppy in fact that it was difficult to unclip from the pedal. You could literally move the eggbeater part back and forth several millimeters. I returned it, got it back and now the left pedal just feels crummy all around. I can feel it moving around under my foot, and if you turn it with your hand it feels awful. Certainly not the precision engineering I had come to expect from Crank Brothers. No one should buy these pedals. I can't believe that Crank Brothers even puts their name on them. Go for the Candy C pedals on discount. Even at the lower price these MXR pedals are junk. Plus, you can find the Candys for about the same price.

Strengths:It "looks" like its crank brothers bretheren....
Weaknesses:Oh, man.. I'm a mechanic at a shop and have been through a lot of pedals... and these are the worst. I have had the candy's, mallets, etc. The cage, spring, and bearings are NOT the same as the other crank brothers! You get what you pay for. The bearings are horribly rough, and a few months in had noticable play. The bearings have enough play from typical use to whine up climbs, and allow your feet to move up and off the pedal, and come back down by a few mm's. Annoying.
Similar Products Used:Other crank brothers, Time, SPD, Look, etc
Bike Setup:Redline cross, Cannondale Jekyll, Ironhorse 7point,
Bottom Line:Pay the extra $25 or so and get pedals that will actually work.

Strengths:Once you have clipped in......don't worry about coming out. I have never popped out of these bindings. Makes hill climbing very efficient. Simple design with easy entry. No problem with mud or dirt build up.
Weaknesses:When you are in a jam and need to get out quickly....there may be a problem. There is a certain exit motion you must learn, to get out of these bindings. Don't count on luck! No matter how bad the crash....both feet remained attached.
Bottom Line:Easy entry...great pedaling efficiency....getting out when you most need to, is a problem! Recommend for experienced binding users, only.

Strengths:Simplicity of Design, Accessible from four sides, easy to get out of.
Weaknesses:Takes a few rides to break in, the springs are tight until then. Can't adjust the spring tension
Similar Products Used:Candies, Egg Beater SL, and Chromolly
Bike Setup:GT ID 5.0 1.0 Marz AM1, XT all over the place Avid J7's
Bottom Line:I have been riding Crank Bro pedals for several years now. Once you get them past a short break in period they are fantastic.

I'm a big fan of simplicity, and these things are about as simple as a it gets. They shed mud like nothing else, if you break a spring claw, you can still clip in from three other angles.

These MXR's are a newer and cheaper version of the Chromolly models. I bought a set for my daughter, who only weighs like 62lbs. They're great for her, but I really couldn't comment on the quality of the material as yet. Time will tell.

As for getting them stuck on your crank arm; I don't know how you do that. They're threaded the same as any other pedal, and I take them off and on at regular intervals without a problem. All I can say is 'operator error'

Strengths:Light, simple pedals - no need to fiddle around with settings.
Weaknesses:Slightly lesser quality components than the more expensive models.
Similar Products Used:Candy C's
Bike Setup:SCOTT Reflex 05 MTB - Single Speed set up for city riding
Bottom Line:I haven't had any problems with clipping or unclipping. If you already use Crank Bros, you know exactly how to use them. I have the Candys on my fixie now and got these for my SS MTB.

Initially they are a bit stiff, but then my Candys have been broken in already. I liked the small platform on the Candys, but have come to prefer the eggbeater pedal.

OK, they might be a slightly lesser quality pedal than the regular eggbeaters, but they work the same as my Candys and at 30% of the price of regular eggbeaters (here in Australia anyway, are worth it.

If you compare the price to the quality, to the usability - they rate highly. You can't get a better cheaper pedal.

Bottom Line:Ok, I am just updating from my last review on these pedals. DON'T BUY THEM. They suck. When I wrote before and mentioned sone binding up, it actually turns out that I bent the axel. I weigh 180 pounds. Also, I was in a 8 hour endurance race, and when clipping in sonthing was going wrong. Turned out that somehow I broke one of the cages that holds my cleat inplace. And I have never struck them on any rocks. Your would actually be hard pressed to even find a roack on out local trails much bigger then a tennis ball. I also have mallot c's, which also are no good. I snapped the axel on one of them. And when that happened the peace that was still in my crank arm cought the pedal body and broke that too, so now I cant just buy a new axel the whole thing needs replacing. Warrenty you say? HA! I sent both pairs of pedals back. The egg beaters they wont doo anything for they say i hit a rock and won't take my work for it, and don't really care about my bent axel. As for the mallot c's? Well, since you cant use a pedal wrench with these, I couldn't get the non-drive side pedal out. My local shop tryed heating the arm with a torch, and put an allen key in a vice, but all that managed to do was bend and snap a few allen keys, not to mentions the giant bench vice broke too. And yes they were greese before installing, and no they wern't cross threaded, and yes we were turning them the right way, and it was only a month before we tryed taking them out that they were installed. SOOOOOO, I have to send my crank arm back with the pedals for warrenty. I have since bought new cranks knowing that the pedals would get replaced and i wouldn't get my crank arm back. WRONG! They warrenty department is trying somthing new this year. They are replacing all broken parts of the pedals and sending them back. Thats right, now I have a half new pedal mixxed with some old probly soon to break parts, and whats to say that it wasn't a bad batch of pedals, and that the other one os going to soon break one i start riding it again. And I can only ride it again if I some how magicly get it out of the crank arm. Which I doubt, since like I said before they don't have wrench flats for a pedal wrench. DONT BUY THEM!

Strengths:easy to use after a bit of practice. impossible to lock up or fill w/ mud. look cool.
Weaknesses:wings are bent metal (instead of cast) which is then welded to the body... this is slightly weaker and uglier than the fully cast C's. plastic endcaps. round platform causes tread squeak.
Similar Products Used:spd M505's (can adjust from very tight to extremely tight... not for me)
Bike Setup:IronHorse Warrior Race: SRAM 9, Hayes HFX9, Truvativ, WTB, Easton, RockShox Pilot SL
Bottom Line:I have '05 OEM eggbeaters, which Crank Bros gave the name "MXR" this year. Apparently welding the wings and body together (instead of casting them into a single piece) saves $50. If the money is that big a deal to you, or if you just want to try the eggbeater style out without spending too much, then you should consider the MXR's. Be aware that you can find the fully cast C's (and even SL's) online for nearly the same price as the MXR's if you look hard enough. The platform axel on the MXR's is round and smooth (instead of a beaded, rounded square) which cause the pedals to squeak a bit during the down stroke. Still, within a year these will likely be available at closeout prices which will hopefully get more people to try them out. I myself have had great luck with them. Great value. Overall, -1 chili for the welding.

Strengths:They seem half lite. Good mud clearance.
Weaknesses:Harder to find then Shimano for clipping in. The 4 sides sometimes just lets it roll under my shoe when looking for it. Its seazing up.
Similar Products Used:Mallot C's on my DH bike. Other then that tons of Shimano and Look pedals.
Bike Setup:On-One Inbred, Thomson post and stem, Monkey Lite bar, Paul Love Levers, SLR, avid front disk, rear avid v'break, and other fine parts.
Bottom Line:They seem ok, I am not overly inpressed with them. I like the Mallot C's on my DH bike, but I think the plat form helps to hold my shoe. My Egg Beaters are a little loose for my liking, I find I come out half often. My right pedal is binding up tight now, and the spring release system is jamming up. And to boot, they came black when I thought crome, and after the first ride they ended up being half crome. So there kinda worn looking. Bottom line you ask? Mallot C's are nice, for DH, but if your looking for a XC pedal I would say go with Shimano.
