It's a good product if you're looking for something cheap. However, if you plan to use it on dirt trails and jumps, be warned that it bends very easily and will definetly need to be replaced down the line.

Very long lived in commuting use. I have 4 bikes with this derailleur and have found them long lived and reliable. One bike has 6,000 miles on it and going strong. They are inexpensive so if one does get cratered it is cheap to replace. The only one to do so so far had a chain break and wrap around the derailleur while under a lot of power. Nothing would survive that! The grip shifter that goes with it is fantastic, still as crisp after five years of commuting as ever.

Not spendy enough for the snobby set?

I use just this shifter combo now; low cost, reliable, can customize the cable tension on the fly via the barrel adjuster on the grip shifter.

SX5, just as good but in metal. Bike got blown over on the derailleur, bent it and it looks like crap but still shifts well. Will run it til it wears out.

This product has held up very well! I was nervous about the plastic bottom pulley at first, but it has withstood many miles, many crashes, and many jumps! The lack of barrel adjuster, keeps it simple to adjust and maintain. *It has never skipped. Great for XC, Downhill, & Touring.

None yet after one year!

For the price I paid, you could stock up on 4 or more and still be ahead of the game.

It`s cheap and looks cool when it`s new.

It`s made from plastic and it bends and starts to skip speeds, and it broke the tab off of the back of the derailleur where the screw hits the frame and keeps the derailleur from spooling up towards the gears.

The reason it has 1 chili for value is because if you buy it and expect to ride your bike from home to work 1-2 miles ride, you get burned . My rear derailleur broke the tab off of the back of the derailleur where the screw hits the frame and keeps the derailleur from spooling up towards the gears,and it started skipping speeds after 2 months of continuous usage on the sidewalk not on dirt road.

I have nothing good to say about the product. It slips out of gear when riding level terain, doesn't want to get into gear, and is gererally difficult. Thought I had a good product for the money I spent. Very disappointed...

ive used it since ive had my bike and it has been working fine since...

...now it isnt working that well n e more, i have to hold the gear shifter in place if i want the gear in gear 1

came with the bike ;^) its a cheap one. sturdy - got hit many times. ain't loose or anything. made 5000km with it. ESP rules - I broke my shifters, and hey - for a 7-speed rear I mounted 8-speed shifters.

the drive-wheels after 5000km are almost round... and I can't find a replacement... oh well...

from what I hear, some say they are crappy, some say they are good. mine serves me good and nice, so should I complain? works nice after 5000km, I hope for twice that long :^) another derailleur will definetely be yet another SRAM. this time, with 2 sets of spare wheels ;^)

Nice looking component, durable plastic design, nice quick shifting

After going off of jumps,bumps, bunny hops or going down stairs the derailer cant make up its mind to which gear it wants to be in. Problem goes away after a short ride but always returns.

I am out to destroy this Mongoose Vadium, I am severely beating it and this is the first component to start to give...It is the WEAKEST LINK.(so far) Ill give it 5 flamin' Chilis for value cuz it was pretty much free with a 150 dollar bike lol...
Buy this product if you are going to ride on the SALT FLATS in utah, otherwise it will skip gears after hitting a sidewalk crack.

Probably really cheap if you buy it separately, but I am stuck with it only because it came stock with my bike. It's very light because it's made of plastic. It shifted well when it was new, but now it's starting to suck.

Like I said before, it shifted well when it was new, but now it's starting to suck. The guy at my local shop told me that I'm having problems keeping the gears lined up because the derailleur flexes under pressure, thus causing the chain to skip to other gears and even to come off the cogs completely and hit the frame. In addition to this, I think the derailleur will break if it makes a hard impact against something, which I have never done.

If it came with your bike then you're gonna be stuck with it until it breaks, which probably won't be very long if you're an abusive rider. Riders of higher skill levels shouldn't even bother reviewing this product because it's not designed for you guys. I have to say that it did serve me well as I learned the basics of riding, but it's definitely time to let it go and replace it with something that can handle a little more pressure.
