Strengths:    Smooth shifting, wide range, easy adjustment, worked right out of the box. Frame clamp bolt and cable attchment bolt are angled away from bike so they can easily be tightened.

Weaknesses:    Price (needed it right away so got stuck paying retail). Universal fit - the inserts are OK, but should engage with the frame clamp more effectively (now Shimano is adding double sided tape to the insert! - still doesn't work). New cable attachment point means you'll likely have to spring for a new cable if you're replacing an older unit.

Bottom Line:
Forgave the one-size-fits-all sizing once it was installed and shifted great. Never had a nine speed shift so well, with such a large range of adjustability. After 10 years, Shimano finally got nine speed/three chainrings right!
-1 Chili for bloated retail price.

Strengths:    Nice design, low cost, easy installation

Weaknesses:    Cable retaining bolt

Bottom Line:
Its a nice product but the bolt which holds the cable is a weak-point. The first one was fitted by the shop I bought the bike from (Meta 5.5), it snapped off en-route. I can forgive that, I assumed it was over-torqued. Maybe it was, but the second one most certainly was not. I've been riding bikes for 20 years and only had this happen on this unit. The second bolt broke today, as I was washing the bike!

The bolt is made from some kind of die-cast metal, powdery grey in appearance. It should be a steel or titanium bolt, nothing else. That's what I'm going to replace the bolt with. My 8 year old Deore derailleur which I used today (old kit) has lasted thousands of miles with no breakage.

Its the race for weight savings. It means we end up with substandard kit. I really wish they'd stop that.
