Product Description

Shimano chose to remain with a triple crankset with their Dyna-Sys 10-speed XT group. One of the key differences was a move to a tighter chainring spread. The FD-M770-10 Deore XT Front Derailleur is made just for its 24/32/42t configuration. The cage radius and plate shapes will optimize the shifting performance with the Dyna-Sys 10-speed crank. The Shimano FD-M770-10 Deore XT Front Derailleur is available with two mounting options -- Multi-clamp (28.6, 31.8, and 34.9mm) or E-Type. The low clamp/top swing design makes it a great choice for many full suspension frames with rocker/link pivots, etc mounted on the seat tube. It uses Shimano's Dual Pull lever arm, so it works for top or down tube cable routing.

Strengths:    ??

Weaknesses:    Sloppy and short-lived.

Bottom Line:
I do not know what has happened to these components. They are not made well anymore. For comparison, I have some 10-yr+ old XT stuff around that is still as tight as the day it was made. This stuff, you're lucky if it lasts a year. This FD was OEM on the bike I bought, and was sloppy within one season of casual-ish (40-50 trail miles/wk) riding. have had the same problems with front and rear XT and XTR, no such probs with SRAM X.0, X.9. Wondering what they are doing wrong at Shimano...

Strengths:    Replaced original XT derailleur(FD 760)on bike after some damage and I could not properly set. Smoothest shifter of all the XT front derailleurs. Unlike other XT derailleurs, if set properly, the chain does not rub when in the largest chain ring up front.

Weaknesses:    The XT logo cut into the top of the cage is a weak point. Bends easily if hit.

Bottom Line:
Very good derailleur, but, marked down to 4 due to weakspot
at XT logo cut into top of cage.
