The Stylo SL and Stylo Team are completely redesigned for 2003. The Stylo crankarms are forged from AL-7050-TV alloy, which increases ISIS Drive interface and pedal thread strength. We've added new chamfering and disengagement features to all our rings for easier, chainsuck-free downshifting and improved upshifting. The Stylo Team uses nickel-plated chainrings and alloy hardware, including self-extracting crank bolts, for maximum weight savings. ISIS Drive interface only. For cross-country use. This is the crankset that Team Maxxis's Kashi Leuchs will race on for 2003! Mirror Black or Mirror Blue finish.

Bottom Line:
These are really nice cranks i must say. Very stiff, good for XC. THey are light, lighter than most, look at the FSA carbon stuff and you pay 200 more for 50 grams less. One thing i also like is the finish, the black is what i have. It does not come off very easily if that matters to you. THe chain rings do not show very much wear at all, nothing abnormal at least. I know that some complain about the ISIS drive but i had no problem with it. I have a rather light one too, Token. One thing i dislike greatly is the alloy chainring bolts! THese things are weak, round out easily. I suggest buying titanium or something stronger. That is my only gripe about this product, these cranks are great and i would say are on par with things more expensive.

The crankset has worked quite well over 12 months of use for cross country use, including wet and muddy conditions. Haven't had any issues with bolts coming loose or shifting problems. Never needed to touch anything since the installation. Can't notice any major wear on the chainrings either. Will probably last another 12 months of use. The Trek Fuel has quite low bb height so you do hit the crankarms against rocks and other objects from time to time but they have held up with that just fine.
There is only one thing that is negative which isn't the cranks fault but rather the ISIS bottom brackets. I've used it with the TruVativ GigaPipe Team SL -03 bottom bracket which is in comparison a poor product. If you look at other reviews of ISIS bb's there isn't a single one which seems to be lasting more than 6 months. And with the overpriced BB's ($100+) which don't last anyway it is cheaper to buy a Shimano XT integrated crank system once a year.

Having a couple of other bikes with the older type Stylo Team (separate spider), there was no doubt about buying the new Stylo for the Dakar build this spring. Got to love it; stronger, stiffer, and easier to build/use with the integrated spider and 7000 Al. Their customer service is courteous, knows their products, and doesn't try to baffle you with B.S.
Shifting is very good although I pulled off the front XTR derailleur and am using a like new old STX. Wider STX cage doesn't have all the chain rub of the XTR and shifts good enough for me; I pretty much stay on the 32t. Yeah, yeah cross chaining... I know.
There are lots of baby heads/ledges, loose rocks trying to smash equipment on the trails I usually ride. Have already put some significant dimples in the Dakar downtube from rocks off the front tire but the rings are OK. Took a big rock the other day and it must have hit the rings somewhere. The newer rings are, I believe, a little thicker/heavier, and I can't find any bent up teeth, yet. Maybe just lucky so far; really need to go bash ring in place of the 44t.
I don't think you can do much better for a crankset unless you go with the new, really big $ stuff and as good as these cranks are, don't see much need to.
Truvativ Stylos are the best crank deal going. Five flaming bananas for both value and overall.

OK. Yes, the extractor is really weak, BUT the guys at TRUVATIV are 150% ready to stand behind their product... kudos to Rob, stepped up, no questions asked replacement with the new and improved '04 model. He swears they've fixed the problem and even has asked for my feedback!!! When was the last time a company cared about what you thought of their products!?! The most awesome part fot he whole deal? THese cranks simply Rock! They are very light, and yet handle my 205 lbs of thrashing without even a hint of flex or missed shifts... simply fantastic. You know a product is good when you forget that it is even there, and that how it goes with Stylo Team cranks!

Chainrings wear really really fast. (have been through 5 mid rings this year, only done 10000 km. Finish rubs of cranks really easy. Cranck bolts round out to easy. Q factor is way to wide. Stupid 4 bolt rings make it impossible to run 19 or 20 or 29 or 30 or 31 toth rings. 44 ring flexes alot under load. They still insist on using the crazy isis bb and spline that is nothing but trouble. Bearings seem to wear really guick and the cranks don't stay tight because there is not enough taper on spindle. Why don't they make a norrow BB 113 is way to wide.

Bottom Line:
Don't get them if you have the money for better one. but for $110 they aren't to bad. Only use them for light duty XC as I have seen plenty snap under heavy trail use.

Nada, zip, zero. Okay if I have to say something, I purchased one of the early production 03 cranksets which had the conventional (not dual hex head) chainring bolts. They did tend to come loose and were a bit of a hastle to tighten up.

In 6 months of use on conditions ranging from rocky, technical singletracks in my local mountains to XC races in the dusty Big Bear area, I have NEVER, NOT ONCE, dropped a chain, missed a shift going into the granny ring, chain sucked or had the chain hang up on any of the rings either downshifting or upshifting. What more needs to be said? I certainly can't say the same for the Race Face or Shimano products I've used.
In addition customer service is awesome. Call up the boys at Truvativ and you will always talk to a courteous person who obviously is passionate about the sport and can answer any question you might have. I bought one of the earlier 03 Stylo Teams and the chainring bolts were not the dual hex head type. I gave Truvativ a ring and they sold me two complete sets of bolts for the price of one. They arrived in just a few days to boot!
The price of the crankset (compared to top of the line Shimano or Race Face) is just icing on the cake. Buy this crankset and you will not be disappointed!

The WTB rear XC lite hub, XT cog and Truvativ crank gives precise, smooth shifts. I'll admit this was a lucky combo because the bike came with the XT cog and WTB XC Lite hubs. It just didn't seem right to leave the LX crank with such nice components. I researched cranks and thought RaceFace was the best, well, not after reading the specs and trying the Truvativ cranks. What a bargain for the weight and performance. I opted for the Ti BB with dual bearings on the crank side. The bike is absoulutely STEALTH...silent shifting...my bike doesn't make that annoying ten-sped clicking when your not pedaling. I give it 5 and 5 for price, weight and performance.

This sucka is super stiff and very light. For the price, strength, and weight, nothing beats it. This new 2003 model is definitely and upgrade to older versions, but without upgrading the price drastically. We no longer have to dream of a crankset like this when budget is our barrier, get this sucker for under $160 brand new, and it's comparable to those pushing $300.
The Stylo Team '03 hasn't let me down in any terrain I've taken it on--climbing, downhilling a bit, muddy areas, loose terrain, hardpack, and occassional street riding. This is power-transfer galore, only next to Carbon (but not in price). The chainrings are also incredibly stiff and nickel plating is a major plus.
I would also say, it feels good supporting smaller companies like Truvativ, this is really innovative designing and quality that only makes mountain biking more interesting and fun to be into.

With a lightweight Ti BB these cranks are lighter than XTR, and a heck of a lot cheaper too! The 7050 Aluminum arms, all alloy chainring bolts, and nickel plated 7075 rings make it very light, strong, and simple to remove with the self extracting deep socket alloy bolts. The Mirror Black finish looks good, even if not very durable. I can't live without the ISIS spline; ISIS is so much stronger, lighter, and stiffer than a square spindle!
Weaknesses:
They're not ultra stiff like XTR, but they're a lightweight XC crank and the XTR's cost a whole lot more. The Mirror Black finish wears off if your shoe or pantleg rubs on it much, or gets scraped by rocks.

A very nice crank for those wanting the next best thing to XTR, without the $$$. These are strong, lightweight, and fairly affordable. The ISIS BB is far superior to any square spindle. Best XC cranks, 2nd only to new XTR. 5 for value because same weight w/ Ti BB, better shifting, and much cheaper. 4 for overall because they could be a little stiffer (in comparison to the new XTR).

This might be a premature review being that I have only taken the crank out for two rides, but so far I am completely satisfied. This crank is very stiff and light. I love the mirror black crank arms and the nickel finished chain rings. They look sexy. Truvativ claims to have built an anti chain suck device into the chain rings and thus far it seems to be working well.
Weaknesses:
You need to be careful with the self extracting bolts. When removing or installing the crank be sure to use a 8 mm allen wrench that is in good shape. Also make sure to stick the allen wrench to the very bottom of the self extracting bolts or you will very likely strip or crack the aluminum. Don't use the combo bottom bracket/crank tool because it doesn't allow the 8mm allen wrench to go deep enough into the self extracting bolt. This combo tool will ruin your self extracting bolts.

Very stiff, Im a big guy and I didnt flex it on hard climbs. Pretty light for the price... I wouldnt pay double for the XTR to save 7 grams(YES 7 GRAMS!!!) over a bb/crankset combo.

And 4 chilis overall cos of the supposed creaky bolts but I'll change this to 5 if i dont have any problems with it later. Rock on!!!

I don't think there's a better crank for the money on the market. These are stiff, as light as most super high-end cranks and cost half as much. I would recommend these cranks to anyone at any level. Truvativ says the durability of the 7000 Series aluminum is much better than the 6000 Series used in the past. Only time will tell but so far these cranks are great.
