Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Well built, strong, good design, smooth shifting, trustworthy.
Weaknesses:Can´t see any weakness, but weight weenies may collaps.
Similar Products Used:All the Shimano stuff.
Bike Setup:Hardtail.
Bottom Line:A racer recommended me this crankset. At first I was sceptical about a combo of high end parts and this one, but I gave it a try. Good choice! If your bike is already light enough, your wheel set is low in rotating mass and your body weight is good (´cause you´re in a good shape), why not?

Strengths:Strong. Much lighter than the cranks that came with my bike and STRONG!.
Weaknesses:Some will say the weight but I will nothing
Similar Products Used:OEM Shimano cranks .. Not very similar
Bike Setup:Diamondback 2008 Response
Marzocchi 44 TST2 Bomber Forks
SLX Cranks
SLX front and rear Derailleurs
Mavic 321 wheels with Deroe XT hubs
Avid BB7 disc brakes with cleansweep G2 Discs
Bottom Line:The bottom line is that these are strong! I am just getting into the whole MTB thing again after almost 15 years. I bought and entry level Diamondback and have been upgrading it for almost a year. These cranks rock for the price. I am a heavy rider at 200 lbs and I care about strength more than weight because I like to jump. With these you will find the best of both worlds. They are not XC race light but they are All Mountain bike strong. I might be looking for a new frame but I am NOT looking for new cranks!!

Strengths:the design is far superior to equally priced race face cranks, aka - evolve xc. looks, stiff, sweet shifting
Weaknesses:need a special tool for the cranks, it's cheap but i didn't know that i needed it.
Similar Products Used:race face ride, race face evolve xc,
Bike Setup:etsx, lx-xt drivetrain, talas 140 fork.
Bottom Line:the crank is far stiffer than the evolve xc that i just took off, it installs easy, but no directions came with it. they are light & look sweet to boot. i don't like the fact that you have to have another special tool to to tighten the crank arm bolt, when an allen would have worked. they should've included it with the crank, the tool retails for $2. also the crnk arm bolt is plastic, kinda suspect. as far as durability and longevity we will see, my old evolve, was decent but too complex to set up with all the shims & spacers. the SLX needed only one spacer on the drive side inside the bb cup & thats it. look forward to thrashing them.

Strengths:Good sturdy feel; no creaking when out of saddle climbing; Has better power transfer than what came on bike. Had an FSA Alpha Drive crank. The FSA crank should have been upgraded form the start as reviewers said.
Weaknesses:Have nothing to report; does what a crank should do.
Similar Products Used:FSA ALPHA DRIVE; Base line Shimano.
Bike Setup:Cannondale Rush 5(2007) with avid elixir cr 203mm's and this crank; the rest is stock.
Bottom Line:I think it is a much need improvement; other reports said this crank was a good solid improvement for my bike and they were right. Really Nice Crank. I was not sure that I would notice any improvement by adding this crank but now I'm glad that I did. And it does work great for me and I weigh about 215lbs. I think that as componet groups go for mtbing they should start with this line.

Similar Products Used:Shimano XT M770, Shimano LX, Shimano xtr M960
Bike Setup:Scott all carbon fiber hardtail, shimano xtr hydraulic disc 180 front 160 rear, shimano xt rapid fire shifters, shimano xt front & rear derailleurs, shimano SLX 3ring crankset, shimano PD-M54O pedals, Manitou mars super 80mm forks, vuelta xrp pro ultralite rims, speed king 2.1 tires
Bottom Line:I race mountain bikes, these are awsome!!! they use the same NEW 22-32 chain rings as the xt does!!! the 32 ring has a steel outer & a composite inner ring for strength & longer life. the larger 44 chain ring is thicker & heavier than the xt. it is an all mountain crankset as to where the xt is a xc crankset. its 40oz heavier than the xt m770. it is a much stronger crankset than the OLDER m760 xt set, but not 100%. the CHAIN RINGS ARE 100% stronger & last longer. the statement made about being 100% stronger than the xt m770 crankset was totally blown out of proportion. for the price you can have these delivered off ebay for 125.00 to 137.00 for crankset & bottom bracket, i would rather have these than any older crankset & yes, even than the older Shimano xtr m960.. I would recommend these over the M770 xt crankset, because i have a set & i now ride just the SLX set. I will be changing to the xtr bottom bracket when time comes to change the bottom bracket bearings. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING A SET!!!!!! btw im a 180lb rider & these have no flex!!! a great thing when climbing those huge hills

Strengths:+Cheap
+Strong
Weaknesses:-Rotational friction
Similar Products Used:FSA Alpha Drive EXO
Bottom Line:I wanted XT cranks until I found out about these. SLX are cheaper, and they look better. I read somewhere that these are 100% stronger than XT. I dont know if I beleive it, could just be marketing hype to push SLX as "All Mountain" but I LOVE EM! And yes, these are VERY rigid with ZERO flex. I weigh 200 pounds.

Strengths:Great Crankset. Very strong, well I was riding an FSA K-force prior so I guess the strength is a given. They look nice and weight just a bit more than the famed XT.
Weaknesses:Weight but no biggie.
Similar Products Used:Shimano XT, FSA, Race Face
Bike Setup:Titus Carbon X
Bottom Line:Great cranks for the money. Can't see myself spending $400 on a crankset that does the same. If I really need to lose weight I can do it many other ways, even drill holes through the arms but not doing that. Easy install.

Bottom Line:best bang for the buck. One comment stated that wish he could shave some wt off. This is only about 30gr heavier than the XT, take a poop and that should do it. Technology has come a long way in the past five yrs, i can remember the old xt cranks bb and they were heavy and flexy. This set really shifts smooth. Bontrager gave this set to me as a replacement for my Racelite set that started peel its coating. Quite happy with this.

Strengths:Looks incredible, simple to install, shifts smooth, very durable. I've been out on a few pretty intense rides with it and havent had any issues...now if I could get some longevity out of my pedals I'd be set.
Weaknesses:Just wish I could shave a few grams off of it.
Similar Products Used:ollllld shimano stx RC
Bottom Line:This seems to be an amazing crank fro the price. Compared to the XT, I'd take this any day. Its close in weight and 100% stronger?!? that's incredible and you cant beat the quality of shimano products.

Strengths:strengh(supposed to be 100percent stronger than xt!!)looks the biz.shifts really well and has same middle ring as xtr (composite).generally for the crazy price i paid this is a very good piece of kit.ease of setting up.come in triple or twin with bash guard.
Weaknesses:none as yet.weight might not be to everyone's liking but they are intended for AM.
Similar Products Used:race face evolve.pile of junk!!!!

Bottom Line:for an all mountain crankset you cant go very wrong by fitting these to your bike.for the price their an absolute bargain and would highly recommend them to anyone.ok they are not the lightest cranks out there but you would'nt have the strengh of these either full stop.makes the race face ones i had look very poor indeed, especially the splines(surely they could make them better).nice one shimano
