Favorite Trail:any
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $75.00
Purchased At:Local bike shop
Strengths:They work.
Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Real Design, Virtually all other generic rings.
Bike Setup:1990 Shimano Deore Crank. Shimano drivetrain.
Bottom Line:See my poor review of the Real Design rings for more info.

Basically, I bought these because the new Real Design rings I put on my bike were the cause of horrible and frequent chainsuck. Their fault was they did not adhere to standard chainring spacing or thickness, which resulted in severe chainsuck on a bike with ALL new drivetrain components.

The QBP rings have No ramped faces. They come with a lengthy explanation of what factors affect chainring performance, which was a smart touch.

QBP Engagement rings are clearly built to the correct thickness to provide the proper spacing on Shimano cranks, and I regard Shimano as the dimensional standard EVERYBODY must kowtow to. I experienced good shifting with NO chainsuck whatsoever, on the first ride!
If you don't need ramped rings, these are a great, easy to find replacement; just ask your local bike shop. The reason I don't give them a higher rating is it pains me to pay so much for chainrings, and I will admit QBPs prices are in line with the rest of the industry.

Date Reviewed: March 17, 2001
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:*cheap
*available in many sizes and BCDs
Weaknesses:*hot spots (only a problem in singlespeed applications)
*no shift ramps and pins (only a problem in geared applications)
Similar Products Used:Shimano (all qualities), RaceFace
Bike Setup:Singlespeed
Bottom Line:this is a cheap chainring so one can't really expect the superior shifting of ramped and pinned rings. they will fight you while shifting, but not any worse than pre-ramped chainrings (if you've been around for some time).

also, i used these rings on my SS and found them to not be perfectly round (i'm usins a KingKog - which is a superior quality cog in terms of roundness).

Date Reviewed: August 22, 2000
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:Really cheap and light.
Weaknesses:REALLY cheap. Completely chewed up in 4 months.
Similar Products Used:Shimano, L+M, Middleburn
Bike Setup:KonaKula, Bomber, Hope, XT/XTR
Bottom Line:Stay away IMHO. I thought I was smart when I bought chainrings at half the price of high-end ones. Not so. Doesn´t matter if it´s half the price when they only last 1/3 of what you get out of a good chainring, eh?. But they worked well before they died...
