Submitted by Jeremy a Weekend Warrior from Maine
Date Reviewed: May 9, 2009
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Hill Top Ski and Bik
Strengths:?
Weaknesses:OUCH!!!
Came on Bike
Similar Products Used:8 speed bikes
Bike Setup:Raleigh M60
Bottom Line:Just got the bike out for some spring riding. Did all the typical maint. took it for a ride down the driveway then started back up and POW!! everything went out from under me. After spending the evening reading reviews on all 9 speed brands I've come to the decision to buy a SRAM-971 (I like the SRAM master link) and put pavement tires on it. Time to rebuild the 8 speed GT for an off-road bike. Never had an 8 speed break!!!
P.S. unlike others, I wouldn't Recommend this for beginners. It hurts!

Date Reviewed: June 14, 2004
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:came with bike
Strengths:Cheap, good for beginners
Weaknesses:Some chain suck, doesn't shift all that well
Bike Setup:corratec x-trail extreme
Bottom Line:At first the chain worked well except that it sometimes does not shift well on the rear, which could be due to the RD not beign well adjusted as well. Today the chain was sucked in between the front gearwheels and got stuck. It bent the smallest wheel out of shape...If I only had realised what happened and stopped pedaling all would probably have been well. Personally I would not recommend this chain but at least it hasn't snapped so perhaps for a beginner it would be OK.

Submitted by Timo a Cross Country Rider from Sammamish, Washington, USA
Date Reviewed: January 11, 2004
Favorite Trail:The one I'm on
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Came stock on bike
Strengths:Smooth for the first few rides...
Weaknesses:Lack of strength. A link broke on 3rd ride (fixed on trail). Now she skips like a mo-fo. I ride hard, but smooth.
Similar Products Used:Shimano LX/XT chains. May try the SRAM pc-99 or Wippy Connex next.
Bike Setup:Trek Liquid - XT - Psylo & Fox TALUS - Hayes Hydro discs. Sweet 5 inches of front & rear plushness.
Bottom Line:Out of the box this chain was fine - smooth shifts, didn't have to think about it. Then, a "pop" & the feeling of spinning without going anywhere. No major chain suck, no impacts, no twigs to bend the links out from the pins. It may come on your bike, but it won't stay for long. Probably good for beginners or pavement riding - not for those who grind hard. Peace. . .

Strengths:none
Weaknesses:The chain is very weak.

Favorite Trail:The next one
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Nada. Zilch. Zero.
Weaknesses:Yes, this product is very weak.
Similar Products Used:Don't even know. Never had to think about it before.
Bike Setup:Raleigh M80 '03 (Stock)
Bottom Line:I bought my M80 because it had a great component list for
the price - at least the stuff that I thought mattered.
Never considered the chain. Figured one was pretty much
like any other. Nope. This one really sucks. It broke
both of the only two times I went off road to do some
trail riding and hill climbing. It jumped of the chainrings many times before that. Never again.

Can we add a negative chili to the list?
