from New Zealand Date Reviewed: August 8, 2003 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | cheapish | | Weaknesses: | pretty crap design, if your chain ring is bent ever so slightly it wont work, drops chains repeatidly, no chain ring protection etc etc | | Bottom Line: | I wouldnt recomend buying this even if you ride lightly and dont use big rings, i was told positive things about it before i bought it but it really is not worth the money or time. 2 chillis cos it works on the flats, although it dose rub heaps. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

(mines twisted forward so the roller is almost touching the chainstay, this way it doesnt drop the chain nearly as much) and for some f*cked up reason it keeps loosening my bb | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$75.00 | | Strengths: | everything. even way better than a MRP guide. easy instalation once you get the hang of it. | | Weaknesses: | the bottom roller is way too noisy and a bit crappy and the upper guide should be a bit wider. | | Similar Products Used: | MRP, MR dirt | | Bike Setup: | 2002 identiti dr kekyll frame 24", 26"wheel setup on maxxis highroller, xt disc brakes and bits and pieces azonic bars and stem, truvativ crank. | | Bottom Line: | very good piece if crap once you made some adjustments. i replaced the bottom rollers with an old 11 tooth sproket and it works fine. the guide works better with a 9 speed chain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$60.00 | | Purchased At: | the shop I work at | | Strengths: | CHEAP, very adjustable, simple, low maintanance, sturdy, works with BMX chainwheels (no bashring) | | Weaknesses: | No grub screws to tighten to outside of BB shell to prevent movement, no bearings in bottom roller, tricky to set up when dealing with frame/crank clearance issues. | | Similar Products Used: | homemade set-ups (similar to a roox chaindog) | | Bike Setup: | Cortina 4130 slalom, Mr. T, 3-piece cranks, Profile ring, Hayes brakes, Easton bar and pedals, other stuff | | Bottom Line: | A great guide at a great price. Not something you want to trust in a DH race, but for lighter duty and DS racing it is good. It was tricky to set up on my hardtail due to clearance issues with the chainstay yoke. Also, the chainring bolt on BMX style cranks lines up and interferes with the screws holding the two plates together. This forced me to push my chainline out further than ideal. I flipped the plates and ground it down to fit my frame so my crank/ring could be moved inward for a decent chainline. I dropped my chain twice while backpedalling through a rough section and it was tough to get it back on. Not bad for what you pay. It is nearly infinately adjustable if you are willing to tinker with it a bit. The lower roller is pretty cheap but actually works and is quiet so I can't complain. Great value and it works very well if you take the time to set it up right | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Palo Alto, CA Date Reviewed: September 14, 2002 | | Favorite Trail: | Urban assault | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Purchased At: | Came with bike, used at Sea Otter '02 | | Strengths: | Easy to adjust, Easy to install/remove cranks, fits many chainrings | | Weaknesses: | Doesn't come with inner or outer bashring, I've bent my lower boomerang, and the bent spindle on my cranks (truvativ hussefelt) makes my chain derail with it (not the chainguide's fault) | | Similar Products Used: | Trek Chainguide (on my bruiser), rode a hussefelt I, triple ring bikes | | Bike Setup: | LenzSport Alpine Brawler DH 6" travel, Jr. T 6", Hugi/321, Hayes hydro, Azonic, Hussefelt cranks (soon to be RF Prodigy DH), Worldforce, Titec, Raceface, Michelin & Intense, Deore, XT, Primo, ODI | | Bottom Line: | This chainguide works very well. It is easy to adjust and makes removal of cranks easy. The top guide can be used to point the chain, I like the box a lot. I have not had to do any serious adjustments since i got the bike, but my lower boomerang bent after being smacked against concrete corners a few times. I guess metal does that sometimes (go figure). Even with the bent boomerang, I don't lose my chain that often, but when I do, my cranks are to blame (thus the reason of me getting raceface's). This is a very good chainguide, but just because the Hussefelt II chainguide is good, doesn't mean that the Hussefelt crank is (in case you're thinking of getting those). 4.5 flamin' turds for quality, 5.0 for value. I'll just round up. :-) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
