Favorite Trail:All
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $120.00
Purchased At:go-ride
Strengths:This is for the SRS+. Doesn't drop chains. Pretty lightweight. Durable.
Weaknesses:None, these things actually work.
Similar Products Used:Older SRS, Mr Dirt, Box Guide
Bike Setup:Turner Highline, 06 front triangle mated to 08 rear end. 888, 32t front ring.
Bottom Line:I had a cheap truvativ guide, with the thought that I'd eventually replace it. It happened sooner than I thought though due to the truvativ being utter crap. Once I got the SRS+ shimmed over correctly (took 2 rides) it worked perfectly. It's been great ever since with no dropped chains.

Weaknesses:bearings!!!
Similar Products Used:Gamut P30, DMR Elite Speed Guide
Bike Setup:2002 Turner RFX, Fox Van R, Manitou Nixon, Shimano, Sunline etc etc.
Bottom Line:Its a very good stiff strong chainguide. If i was a racer then the weight would probably be a weakness but as im not then its not. I have had this for 3 months and have now changed to the P30. admittedly this was a pretty wet british summer but that is no excuse for me to go through !!!3 SETS OF BEARINGS!!! in as many months. none of my other bearings last such a riciulous length of time and i do take very good care of my bike. Come on e13 whats wrong with you???

Date Reviewed: September 9, 2008
Favorite Trail:Helltrack, Boston
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Slides over rocks, roots... anything really. The only time I've ever broken an SRS was when it was improperly installed on my bike... which happened once (came overtightened from the factory, cracked the gaurd). Comes in tons of colors these days, with plenty of variety for all your different bikes.
Weaknesses:No 3 spd XC version.
Similar Products Used:Truvativ box guide, MRP systems..
Bike Setup:05 Turner DHR, evil imperial SL, Avent Arson, Spooky Junebug. They've all got e.13 on them.
Bottom Line:There isn't a better guide on the market. Say what you want about the company, but you can't argue with the performance and quality of the product.

Strengths:Set it and forget it!
Weaknesses:Can damage your crank tabs it is so strong. Mud can get clogged behind the bashguard and in between the chainring.
Similar Products Used:MRP, e.13 LG1
Bike Setup:Evil Sovereign for dirt jumping/trail riding/urban thrashing.
Bottom Line:The SRS will outlast any other part of your bike! When properly set up, it is virtually impossible to ever lose a chain. Never have to think or worry about it, it is literally one of the only parts on any of my bikes that that can easily be said for!

If you are looking for a bit of a lighter weight system, or are running a fragile crankset, the LG-1 may be a better option.

Strengths:Nice design, a bit heavy, but strong.
Weaknesses:Does not work with Shimano 2 piece BB. Simply does not fit, you must enlarge the hole in the mounting plate. Very DUMB!! Then you think, Oh well I'll scrap the idea of using the ISCG mounts and clamp it with the supplied adaptor between the BB and the frame. Nope, the threaded section of the BB will not pass through the adaptor. super DUMB. I use shimano hollowtech XT cranks.... But you will see in the reviews that the story is the same with Saint and Hone.

Also, the top guide piece hits the swing arm pivot on my bike. This is a bulky design. Not very universal.
Also hits the swingarm pivot

Date Reviewed: December 23, 2005
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:CRC
Strengths:Really really strong and beefy, no flimsy metal bash, parts are well made, customer service one of the best on the market...
Weaknesses:Really hard to set up. Very noisy unless set up correct. Also, the distance between the chainring and the backplates is small when using a thick chainring - this results in an awful screeching noise if a little dirt gets in.
Similar Products Used:None to be honest...
Bike Setup:04 coiler/hayes/raceface/888's etc...
Bottom Line:Well, its really up to you, but unless you're a pretty good mechanic the you're gonna find it a bugger to set up really well. I've tinkered to hell and back with mine and its still as noisy as hell. I found that the instructions are only any help if you have the ethirteen ring too, because the diagrams show the alignment, which is gonna be different depending on the thickness of your ring and chain...

Although, i have had it running for nearly every day, and the chain hasnt come off once - 100% truth.

My opinion is if you're a downhiller then get this, because the last thing you want in a race is the chain slipping, but if you're a freerider or 4X i would get a simpler guide like a Blackspire.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $125.00
Purchased At:Direct from evil
Strengths:It keeps the chain on it is quite unless in the extremes and the bash guard is indestructable.
Weaknesses:Well the parts being plastic is kind of scketchy in my opinion and the bash gaurd cracked at the bolts, i would suggest using larger washers to try and prevent this. I had the chain get caught between the plate and sproket once which meant i had to take the crank off but tht was because it was adjusted wrong.
Similar Products Used:I have an MRP but I just got it so i couldn't tell you which is better.
Bike Setup:It was on my P.2 with a dj2, but i just put it on my stinky with a super t pro.
Bottom Line:Basically i would suggest buying it, it work right 98% of the time but tht 2% is the biggest pain ever.

Bottom Line:Buy this and that will be the end of the story. I mean it works really well and looks cool. No problems! That is if you are smart and put it on following the steps and using your brain. If you can't do that then you are out of luck. One more thing, it will rub for about one week. This is the chain rubbing the top slider. Don't worry and don't try fixing it. Just wait and the plastic will wear a little and there will be no more sound. This is normal.

Strengths:ummm the bash ring is strong?
Weaknesses:Ok, so heres how it goes. This thing has caused me hell in the last 2 months. It had been a good product untill a few times i was riding the chain would slip into the space between the bashring and sprocket. So before i went on my Dh trip to northstar i asked mi lbs to look at it, and they said everyhitng was fine. so i rode up at northstar and i could not pedal the whole itme it was complete madness, everytime i pedaled the chain got stuck. so i had a mechanic look at it and it was fine like everyhting else on my bike, except the top portion waqs bent a tiny little bit so it would f** up mi cahin. this was a real pain, i would have to buy a whole new system now so i would have to say this product sucks!!

Price Paid: $100.00
Strengths:THERE ARE NONE besides the main part of the guide being made properly
Weaknesses:the pulley is made of 1mm wide plastic therefore on my bike i obviously blew it up, the other parts of the guide my chain melted through the plastic and the part that holds the pulley on blew up with my pulley on an 11 foot drop. this thing sucks, well at least they chose the bearings properly. but then again a lexan bashring sounds kool. mines got 4 cracks all around the mounting holes. now i gotta custom make a new guide becasue this one is not worth getting fixed so i can just break it again
Bottom Line:this thing sucks. save your money, the ads are all bs, its not true, lexan is heavyer then metal rings, i weighed them myself, its aroun 50 grams heavyer if u wanna be a weight geek, there weak so if your not a poser and you ride hard get yourself a metal bashring and a blackspire guide.

Strengths:Extremely strong and durable - the longest lasting guide youll find. Mega strong bash - better than a thin disc of metal. The chain will stay where you want it - period.
Weaknesses:Maybe a little difficult to set up, but then again all guides are like that.
Similar Products Used:MRP's, Blackspire(nearly as good).
Bike Setup:Cant be bothered to type it all but a DH rig anyway.
Bottom Line:If you want to get a guide, get this one. It might not suit everyones taste with the clear bash but it can be swapped for black or red. Also, the blackspires are very nearly as good, followed by mrp's and I have to admit the blackspires do look better. However, a blackspire sometimes will let you down and definately wont last as long.

Similar Products Used:first chainguide other than bashguards.
Bike Setup:2004 kona coiler 9-speed with wet dream components throughout.
Bottom Line:i got the srs after reading these reviews and i was surprised to find noise and drag when pedaling. in my 4 biggest cogs the chain rubs against the inner plate. i still hammer out 100 miles a week on my bike, and it works like it should, but i wont be surprising deer on the trail anymore due to the click-click noise while pedaling. this guide does lessen noise when jumping, however, and i am not sure why, but it seems to make my suspension perform smoother when doing jumps and drops.silly sounding,i know, but for some reason its true. this guide gets five flaming chili's for urban and jumping, but dont even think of using it on your cross country bike.

Bottom Line:First off, the guys at Evil/e.13 are top notch, they are the best of the best!

I purchased this guide to replace a poorly working OEM guide I had on an older bike, and because I had bent my ring and needed some sort of bashguard.

Installation was extremely easy and did not take long at all. If you need any help, you can email tech support, and usually get a reply within half an hour.

The guide preformed flawlessly. One less thing to worry about on your bike. No chain-suck, dropped chains, broken chains, anything at all.

I later on purchased an Evil Imperial(which I also love)and put the guide on that. Still perfect preformance.

The bashguard is just about the strongest thing on the planet. It will take and devour anything you feed it.

It is very low maintenance and just needs a good cleaning every once in a while like every other part on a bike.

I would recommend this product to anyone and everyone that rides a bike.

EXCELLENT!

Bike Setup:Turner DHR, DH3, 521's, highrollers etc.
Bottom Line:Best chainguide made period. Never once dropped a chain with both chainguides ( a STS on the hardtail or a SRS on the fully), only made a tonne of grinding noises when it came loose once, a few taps with a stick to knock it back in to place got me riding again (this does not happen with ISCG mounts btw).
It's VERY quiet, so i guess it's only weakness is that if you want your bike to sound like a motorcycle you're gonna have to put a bottle on your tire or cards in your spokes, cause this thing purrs like a cat.
There are NO chainguide i can suggest ahead of this, especially if you have a V10, because we've found this is the only chainguide that works well on them.

Strengths:The e.thirteen SRS was super easy to install on both my Giant DH Team and Azonic Evolution. Setup is a no brainer, just bolt the parts together. In and out adjustment of the boomerang is easily accomplished by using washers that are provided in the kit. However, I did not need to use any washers on either of my bikes, the default spacing was perfect. The attachment holes in the boomerang are slotted which makes for easy rotation adjustment of the boomerang without having to loosen the bottom bracket cup (although you will have to remove the crank arm for access to the screws). The bashguard is bulletproof (literally, I think). You can smash it on all the rocks you want, grind it doing sprocket stalls, even hit it with a hammer (as e.thirteen mastermind Dave Weagle does at trade shows), it will not break. As for performance, its primary purpose it to keep your chain on the sprocket, and that is exactly what it does flawlessly. I can't even recall how many times I have lost my chain when I used an MRP, sometimes getting it stuck between the sprocket and inner plate. That has yet to happen with the SRS, in fact I have never even come close to dropping a chain. Besides everything else, they look super cool. For 2004 you can also buy aftermarket bashguards in different colors to spice up the look even more!
Weaknesses:Despite its flawless performance and great looks, there are a few improvements that can be made. The pullies and associated attachment parts are plastic and come in a tree assembly. Just like a model airplane, you remove each part by twisting back and forth until the attaching twig breaks. Then you need to use an exacto knife (or similar cutting tool) to remove the leftover edges. Some of these are difficult to access and removing them is a tedious process. During assembly of the chainguide, as clearly indicated in the instructions, you MUST NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE BOLTS! The plastic parts that attach the pullies WILL BREAK, if you overtighten. The nuts are self-locking so there is really no need to overtighten the bolts, but there are always those overcautious people who tighten the heck out of everything and they will be sorry when they hear the *SNAP* of the plastic breaking. On the positive side, the plastic parts are lightweight and undoubtedly cheap to fabricate. They won't cause a problem as long as you install them properly.

Weaknesses:The only "weakness" is the tendency for the chain to drag ever so slightly on the upper plate and that could be due to my frame design and/or the inexperience installing SERIOUS chainguides. I am also concerned with the durability of LEXAN, as the outer plate/bash guard is made of it.
