Strengths: Well priced, because this cog will last you forever if you pair it with a surly ring. You will go through a ton of chains before you need to replace this little guy. Wide base is great on freehubs, it won't chew them up. It looks great too. Comes in a bunch of different sizes and both chain widths. I prefer 1/8ths. Nice tall teeth, never worry about the cog slipping under torque.
Bottom Line:
A great product from Surly. A steel cog, so simple and logical. Your chain is steel, so if you run an alloy cog it will get beaten up by the chain. I like my Surly cog and chainring a lot. They perform seamlessly. Get it and you won't be disappointed.
