Favorite Trail:Hurkey Creek Park(24 Hours Adrenalin Course)
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:-Far lighter than square taper, Octalink and ISIS bottom brackets
-Ease of installation(w/ BB tool)
-Spin smoothly
-Super stiff = direct power transfer
Weaknesses:-Wash your bike frequently, and you will soon encounter crunchy bearing sounds when turning the cranks...NOT GOOD!
-Weak bearing seals
-Prohibitively expensive to rebuild
Similar Products Used:TruVativ MegaExo - the BEST
Race Face X-type - the second WORST
Bike Setup:2005 Cannondale F2000SL Hardtail - 19lbs of XC rocketry
Bottom Line:KEEP THIS BB AWAY FROM ANY MOISTURE!!!

Learn to properly wipe-down your bike(PITA- takes nearly forever) because the bearings will FAIL if you even use mild water pressure. This BB should have a rust warning!

Favorite Trail:Bootleg
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:For me, they seem to last forever.
I can't understand the reviews below.
I know from talking to others, that they too have had very good luck with these bearings.
Weaknesses:None that I know of.
Similar Products Used:Old UN-52, 72.
ISIS (true crap).
Bike Setup:All mountain.
Bottom Line:Most people I've talked to are like me, they have had very good luck with these. They have outlasted my old UN types, by a far stretch of time.
Don't even get me started on ISIS and 90 day lifespans, at $80 a pop.
I've gotten more than 2 years and over 4000 miles each, out of two sets, riding in the desert. More than 8000 miles total in 5 years, with a 04, LX Hollowtech II crankset.
I replaced one set while they were still turning smooth.
The other set got replaced recently, only because I got new BB bearings with a new SLX crankset.
The local mechanics have told me, that the problem seems to be people pressure washing after rides.
That and over tightening the tension knob on the non drive side.
It is also a problem for people with unsquare BB shells.
IE, BB shells that aren't faced properly.

Date Reviewed: April 10, 2009
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:It spins when new
Weaknesses:Durability
Similar Products Used:Remember how durable the sealed cartridge BB's were! I have one of those over 10 years old and still working fine.
Bike Setup:Blur XC, XT crankset
Bottom Line:Been through 3 sets of these BB cups in the past 3 1/2 years. After a muddy ride they often seize and stop spinning. I've learned how to overhaul them myself, despite shimano saying they are not serviceable. I've learned to keep a spare set in my toolbox! Shimano needs to fix this system. (I've had a set replaced under warranty as it lasted only a few months, and another set has been sent back for warranty replacement).

Don't buy these BB cups unless your bike never gets muddy.

Favorite Trail:Skyline
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:came with bike
Strengths:Smooth at first
Weaknesses:durability, becomes crunchy when climbing
Bike Setup:07 Scott Ransom 10
Bottom Line:This BB was crunchy and felt like it had a bucket of sand in it within the first 2 months of owning it. I had my LBS inspect it, clean and lube it and they said it was fine. I took it out the next day and it was still crunchy. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
