- Great geometry and low BB height makes sketchy corners and steep sections much easier. You can make some big mistakes on this bike and get away with it.
- DW Link pedals very well if you don’t jump up and down, even going uphill with Pro Pedal backed right off.
- Solid parts spec (except for the rims) that's good value for money. I was surprised it only weighs ~19.2kg considering the fork and cranks.
- The combination of DHX 5.0 shock and 888RC2-X fork makes for a very plush and well-balanced suspension package that has a wide range of adjustment.
- Excellent customer service from the people at Iron Horse, they’re always quick to answer email and help out on internet forums.
- Play in the top shock mount straight out of the box. I’ve been told it shouldn’t be a problem but it still bugs me, especially after handing over this much coin.
- The paint chips way too easily. The loose rocky trails around here have given the down tube and bottom bracket a very nice “shotgun blast” motif. Invest in some 3M clear vinyl before the first ride.
- Very ordinary wheel build. A couple of bent spokes, damaged nipples and scratches on the rims (covered up with black marker). No matter, it won’t be long before you have to rebuild the wheels anyway as the DT Swiss rims are softer than hot margarine, even the front one is looking average after a few months.
- The durable part spec adds a bit of weight but if you’re after a lighter version get the Sunday World Cup.
- Low BB height means you have to concentrate when pedaling through rocks at speed.
- Crank Bros. 5050XX pedals have pretty average grip if you don't have 5.10 shoes.
Point this bike down your favourite DH run and prepare to grin. It’s a fantastic sled that’s held back a little bit by the shock hardware and terrible paint. I thought these problems were going to be solved for ’06 but unfortunately not. Thankfully you don’t really notice them while riding.
