Strengths:    as light as carbon
stiff

Weaknesses:    durability

Bottom Line:
I had to write this, as my opinion has changed over the years. I have used virtually nothing but thomson stems and seatposts over many years on many bikes. Overall great products; and the rare failure I have experienced (cracked stem) was met with exceptional customer service (replaced immediately). Now this has changed dramatically....both a friend and I had this exact stem (about 4 years old on a 29er hardtail) show cracks in the faceplate around one of the top bolts (both used torque wrenches on undamaged carbon bars). When contacted Thomson with questions about this and pictures; the response is now "we recommend replacing this item every 3-5 years" end of story. So now there is an expiration date; and I am just glad there was no catastrophic failure involved. I still think an exceptional product, just not the same exceptional customer service as before.

Strengths:    Nice looking, lightweight and very nice machined.

Weaknesses:    Not solid as it looks also very expensive. For that price should last for ever.

Bottom Line:
After one year of moderated use it's broken on spot obviously not hitted with anything, just couldn't resist it's own tension.
