Submitted by Wes a Weekend Warrior from Towson, MD
Date Reviewed: September 19, 2005
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:Performance
Strengths:Reasonably light, looks good, works
Weaknesses:none yet
Similar Products Used:stock Bontrager 25 degree rise stem
Bike Setup:Trek 4300 stock, with SPD pedals, Syntace stem, Cane Creek wheels
Bottom Line:The thing works. Actually I bought it because the stock Bontrager stem was a short 25 degree rise stem. Come on, 25 degrees of rise on a bike with conservative geometry had me riding way too upright. This stem has filles the bill. Looks nice too as a bonus. Seems pretty solid, but I don't jump, so it really isn't stressed too much.

Date Reviewed: November 16, 2003
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Solid, well machined, no problems at all. FlipFlop design.
Weaknesses:Not too lightwheight (190 grams @ 120 mm).
Similar Products Used:Syncros Cattlehead, Tune Geiles Teil, Syntace F99.
Bottom Line:If you are not a wheight watcher, this is your stem. Particularly screws are solid (big diameter) so a torque tool is nor necessarily required IMHO.

(The Tune and Syntace's F99 seem to be much more sensitive with regard to overtorque.)

Date Reviewed: October 8, 2001
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:radsport rabe
Strengths:Design, stiffness, strenght.
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:Easton, Syncros, Race Face, Kore, Ritchey
Bike Setup:Trek 9900 OCVL '98, Shimano XTR, Mavic Ceramic, Tune Hubs, Moots Post, Ritchey ZED
Bottom Line:The best stem available. Strong and stiff, endurable. The Ritchey is lighter, but flexy. The Easton is o.k. except the taped on decals. Beware of the others: the Syncros is a pain in the neck to install, the race face tends to speak with you, the Kore does not fit evenly.

Date Reviewed: March 24, 2001
Favorite Trail:Turnbull Canyon
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $49.00
Purchased At:TCB
Strengths:Cool open face design. can be used + or- 6 degrees. 3d cold forged for kick ass strength. comes in black or silver with opposite color faceplate. Break from the norm.
Weaknesses:they didn't get me a sticker with the purchase of the stem.
Similar Products Used:ritchey, ibis
Bike Setup:setup might be a stretch, more like beat up with a nice stem
Bottom Line:my bottom line is I hate riding the same stuff that every other donkey rides. If I can find a stem that is super tough, stiff, looks good, doesn't break me and I don't see 36 times every ride, I'll buy it. Alright, alright, alright.

Favorite Trail:
Roque los Muchachos
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
stiff,fit,reversible ,weight,looks good,price
Weaknesses:
just three sizes available
Similar Products Used:
Syncros,Specialized,Ringle
Bike Setup:
Trek OCLV carbon,SID-XC
63mm,USE-SX seatpost,
Crossmax,King,Geax
Bottom Line:It's lines are very smooth(matches my frame very well). No sharp edges.Very well made. The double logos on the side and the rise(6 degree on a 120mm)makes it very versatile.Just pop off the front plate, reverse the stem and you get a 1 inch rise or drop.Even on the trail (in case of long downhills or climbs)worth the 50 secs it takes.Just mind the torque specs. The manual even instructs to forward it to the next owner in case you sell the stem.
How about this german grundlichkeit,eeh?
The 120 mm weighs 180 grams and that's without compromising stiffness.
All of that at about half the price of Syncros or Ringle makes it a great stem.
So i give it Vijf vijgen.

Date Reviewed: July 19, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Aldeberch he im Berjischen
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Light and strong
Weaknesses:
Still thinking...
Similar Products Used:
Control Tech, Profile, Bontrager
Bottom Line:Great stem, it´s light and stiff to my mind. It´s the perfect harmony with the Syntace CC-Handlebar. The fitting of the stem is incredible, because of its special screws. Moreover it has a shape which will never slice your knees or hurt you anyway. But riding is more important than writing...CU on the trail.
