$20.00 | | Purchased At: | Price Point | | Strengths: | Rigid! Won't hurt your knees. | | Weaknesses: | Bolts, bolts, bolts... they round off wayyy too easily. Neither one of my metric or inch allen keys (unbraco keys) fits the bolts very well.... now I can't tighten them anymore!! And they rust too... Oh, and it's not exactly light.... And the stickers can be scraped off with a nail. | | Bike Setup: | Principia Custom Build MSL, XT, Marz, Ritchey | | Bottom Line: | It's cheap, but heavy. Don't count on the bolts. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I have never had it go loose or had any flex at all. Wierd... I've never had a sticker problem. Mine look like they are painted... who knows, I guess I never paid attention. I've never really been weight concious on my bike, since I only ride for my own personal fun. from Alberta...Canada Date Reviewed: February 5, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | na | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | I've read all the reviews on this stem before purchasing. I too have to say that 99.9% of all stripping problems come from the person seting up the stem. I've placed about 10 lb's tourqe on each bolt and have had no problems so far. I doubt I will. The stem is stiff, Wide and takes a licking. The graphics are laser etched ad wont come off. Good Job Kore. | | Weaknesses: | Only the weight. At about 280gr it's a bit on the beefy side. But who cares. You don't buy a stem like this for your ultralite now do ya | | Similar Products Used: | Syncro Kore Lite Dean | | Bike Setup: | Yeti ARC FS ,Z1 BamRacefac, Crank, XTR Drive, Bontrager wheels etc. | | Bottom Line: | Many other stems are overpriced. Everything you could ask for in a stem. Oh yeah, removable front clamp always a plus | | Weaknesses: | none so far. | | Similar Products Used: | n/a | | Bike Setup: | paired the stem with some KHS riser bars all mounted to what is now, a totally custom rockhopper A1 comp | | Bottom Line: | After reading some of the problems (stripping) other riders were having I was almost sorry to have bought the stem. I decided to email Kore to get specifics on bolting procedures and this is what they said. It is true that some of our customers have had trouble with the Lite Stem 3D. In most cases, we've found this to be user error as many riders attempt to tighten their bolts as if they were automobile parts. Kore recommends a torque of eight foot pounds on all of our stem bolts. Remember to tighten the bolts evenly. Yes, we do prefer that you tighten the two upper bolts prior to adding tension with the lower bolt. Don't make the top portion flush right away as manufacturers fluctuate in bar sizes. Leave a small gap at the top, tighten the lower bolt a bit and make final movements based on the overall tension. Been on 3 rides now with no problems. Hope this helps and I hope that this turns out to be a great stem. 3 chilis for now, if the bars don't move and the bolts don'ta strip, would give it 4 easy.

I read the previous postings about stripping the threads and thought there were some gorillas just being clumsy. Well, three weeks later and in spite of careful treatment, I too join the ranks of those with stripped out threads. Ah well, lesson learned....my new Synchros stem is far better quality. I hope my Kore seatpost lasts longer than the wretched stem...!!! | Overall Rating: |

I ran into the same problem that Kris Yates had, when he tried to tighten his KORE 3D stem. I stripped the threads in my stem when I noticed my riser bar loosen. I returned the stem to KORE for warranty replacement w/o any problems , but I stripped the mounting holes again hammering through a downhill run. I rethreaded holes and used a stainless steel 5/16 hex bolt. it works great now and I can torque it down w/o the fear of stripping the threads. If you ck out the Kore web site they state that the top of the face plate should come together and the lower single bolt is used to tighten the face clamp. A friend followed the directions from KORE and stripped out the bottom threads. Overall it is a great stem, but KORE needs to correct the stripping problem for product reliablity and safety. | Overall Rating: |

Please disguard my other review on this stem. It's fine for about 2 weeks, but then your bar's start moving. When you try to re- tighten your bars so that they don't move anymore, THE GODDAMN THREADS STRIP OUT OF EACH HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want a good downhill stem for an inexpensive price, get a GT piston BMX stem. I woulkd give it no chilies, but I guess I have to give it one. | Overall Rating: |
