Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $15.00
Purchased At:Price Point
Strengths:Strong, lightweight
Weaknesses:Poor quality allen head bolts supplied.
Bike Setup:Schwinn Mesa GSX, XT front, XTR rear derailleur, Avid Speed Dial 7 levers, Flite titanium saddle, Hayes discs
Bottom Line:Fortunately, I did not have the misaligned weld problems that a few have experienced.
However, I did have the same problem with the allen head screws being slightly off sized and too shallow. They would barely hold 40 in/lb. of torque before slipping!
Hats off to Bob Kalmbach at Kore's Customer Service.
When I inquired about this problem, he contacted me right away, and had ProNet(Kore's North American Agent), ship me a complete set of replacement bolts.
The new bolts are different. They fit much tighter and deeper on the allen head openings.
No problem in reaching the 90 in/lb. recommended torque settings now!
Great stem, no creaks, squeaks, or flexing.
It looks great, and I love the knee saver clamp design.
If you have problems with your Kore stem, contact them right away, they will make it right!

Strengths:I bought this stem because it was 9$ and I wanted a stem that wouldn't bust my knees up. I think the knee saver system works good. Also since it was installed I have not had to do anything, it has been trouble free.
Weaknesses:There are better stems out there for more money if you care that much.
Similar Products Used:Giant, Bontrager
Bike Setup:XTC frame, XTR front and rear, powerglide 7.0 cassette, lx crank with race face bashguard, duke race 02 fork, roll x rear tire, python front tire, and a kinda bad wheelset, though I don't care that much about it.
Bottom Line:If you don't have the money than this is a great stem

Bottom Line:This is the stem you want! Get the type that has the 3 bolt pattern in the front so you don't have to take off grips, shifters, and brake levers. I have always had Kore stems and I never had any problems. Install and forget. I even have my old one on a spare bike my roommate pounds and it still holds true after over SIX YEARS of use. nuff said.

Bottom Line:Just buy it... it's cheap, studly, and gets the job done. I don't know about these people having problems with the bolts. if you go to KORE's website, there is INSTRUCTIONS as to how to put the thing on! With bolt tightening tolerances.

Strengths:looks cool, price, available in the size i needed.
Weaknesses:The stem bolts! Altough I didn't have a problem with threads stripping (yet) like some of you guys, I found that the bolt heads were poorly made. I couldn't get a hex key to fit them and even went to te local tool supply place to get a new one thinking my wrench was maybe of poor quality and just didn't fit the bolts properly. No luck. The bolt heads are just a little off and so shallow that even if the wrench didn't swim in them, it couldn't go in deep enough to get a grip. I bought some hihg quality machine scews w/allen heads and that took care of the problem. Unfortunately, it took the better part of my morning off to run around town trying to cure a problem that never should have occured in the first place.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Stock, except for the new stem, bar ends and pedal cages
Bottom Line:If you don't mind running around to find bolts that work properly, this might be a good buy, however any product made by such a well known co. as Kore shouldn't have ANY problems with quality. I don't think I'll buy any more of their products. As a matter of fact, I'm looking at new bikes and am staying away from any that are using Kore components.
If you like tinkering, this may be a good buy, but if you are the kind of person who just wants to bolt on and run, forget it. Buy another brand.

Bottom Line:I have never had any problems with my stem, until recently. I noticed some creaking at the handle bar and I took out my tools to tighten it. That is when I noticed that the bottom bolt was loose. But as much as I tightened it would not get any tighter. When I pulled it out I saw that the stems threads were pulled out.

I have had the clamp for over a year now and I love it.

But be careful about how you tighten it. I have seen the ones for 25 bucks (down from 80) but I wouldn't trust those due to them being incorrectly welded.

The regular priced ones are definiatly worth the price.

Strengths:Beautiful design, beatiful price. Supposedly it was $80 originally. The stem was the right size--which is the major reason I bought it.
Weaknesses:Some idiot in Kore's Taiwan factory welded the handlebar clamp on crooked. A unique look and feel for my bike but not something I like. I can't really blame Taiwanese workers because they probably get paid 8 cents a day to make the stems--hence the low price and poor quality. I'll never go cheap on a stem again.

Bottom Line:This stem for good for about the first 2 weeks of riding, then the handlebar wouldn't stop slipping no matter how hard I cranked on it. It had nothing to do with the handlebar because the previous stems that I used with it held on without a problem so I can only attribute the problems to Kores funky clamp. I finally broke the thing today when I bunny hopped and the handlebar twisted again. I though to myself ah, no problem, I'll just tighten it again, so I fixed it up and went out again and it slipped again! So I tightened it down and heard this snap and the bolt broke from the stem. Not good. Because it only lasted a month, 1 chili.

This is probally a fluke but after owning this stem for about 6 months I experienced catastrophic failure of the stem while doing bunny-hops prior to a ride. Upon landing I felt and herd a snap and was leaning to the right, I thought I snapped my steer tube. Upon further inspection I noticed it was the stem that had failed. Both welds had split 2/3 of the way around and the tube had a perfect split from clamp to head. The tube to my surpise is rolled with a seam. I truly think this is an isolated failure, but I can never ride a Kore stem again for psycological reasons. If this same failure had occoured during a high speed decent I would have been a greese spot.

I bought a lite 3 from my favorite M.O. house. It is a very nice stem. I got the whole scoop on why some people received crooked stems. It seems that Kore rejected a bunch of stems because of alignment problems-kudos for Kore right! but the manufacture blew them out to dealers at very low prices even though they should have been junked. Also what I herd was that this was a very limited stock.

Bottom Line:

I have the KORE LITE 3 witht he removable face plate and this is a very nice stem. there is no flex that i have come across and this is coupled with an X-VERT-R and i could not be more impressed with the combination. The finish is top notch and the bolts have not stripped like other people have mentioned. I must admit that i was somewhat sceptical of the Knee saver design but it really does work and i have not cut my knee despite the odd spill on it, very impressed.

Bottom Line:

The Kore lite 3 stem (in silver) is a complete lemon. The first stem I got had
the steer clamp welded at some crazy angle to the extension tube so that it felt
like I was turning a corner when the extension tube was straight. I ordered
another one - same problem!. I'm now on the third, this time the steer clamp
is straight, but the fork tube clamp is crooked. Sort your welding out Kore!
