Strengths:    Strong, cheap, light weight. Well constructed(3D forged)

Weaknesses:    Perhaps not the fanciest looking stem(not machined

Bottom Line:
Kalloy has been around forever making OEM and some brand name stuff in Taiwan.
They have very good equipment and workers but happen to not have an English name so aren't cool like Hope, King, Thompson etc.
While never flashy,I have always found their stuff to be very well made and reliable.
A stem isn't rocket science. All it does is clamp 2 freaking bars together. I am no engineer but I recall a Shimano ad back in the 90s when anyone with a CNC became a bike parts maker and were getting a share of the market, featuring Shimano's XTR rear mech and they explained that they too machined their derailleurs but would forge its final form as this increased stregth through refining the grain. Seemed plausible and has stuck with me.
The particular UNO stem I bought was 3D forged from 6061 T6 aluminum and weighs a scant 90g!
Good luck finding a carbon stemn that weight, plus I payed a whopping $20 for it.
Could not turn down that deal. Besides, I don't care about it not being some piece of jewelery as I use a nad pad over it.

Strengths:    This review is for the Black anodized version. Inexpensive. Sturdy. 3-bolt face plate.

Weaknesses:    Doesn't hold handlebar securely. Flat design of face plate seemingly can't keep HB from rolling, regardless of torx applied.

Bottom Line:
Couldn't beat the price from JensonUSA as the stem was an OE salvage sale (Jamis). But if you're the type of rider (a big XXL fellow) that puts a lot of weight on your handlebars, this stem won't hold its grip. My guess is that it's a design problem; the face plate seems to be just too flat to provide a secure hold on the HB.

Bottom Line:

A great stem for the money (only $15 at my LBS). I put it on a digital scale and it comes in at only 175 grams. Also it looks great, it has a chilsed CNC look, and is polished silver. (Don't get the black one, its cheaper quality and weighs a ton more). Two years old and it still looks new. Don't pay more for a Kore or any other chic brand that weighs the same but cost three times as much. Once you put it on you forget about it. Invest the money in good wheels or a better shock.
