I'm looking for a bike to ride on the paved trail near my house when the trails are muddy. The defy 1/2/3 seem like good options, and the LBS has model year discounts of 20%.
Any thoughts or opinions on this appreciated. Other brands/bikes to be considered?

By right a cheapo 7 speed RD shall not able to run 8speed shimano hyperglide(11t-34t) cassette.
But one of my trustworthy LBS mechanic manage to do that feat. He manage to stretch the RD to accommodate 8 speed shifter and it works perfectly. Kudos to him..
