Strengths:    Far better quality than a Shimano Revoshift both in construction and shifting quality. Relatively cheap, shifts brilliantly with a good cables and a decent derailleur (I use it with an Alivio). Very visible gear display and will propably last a thousand years

Weaknesses:    Lot's of plastic, is not a shorty version and the grip is not that comfortable. The worst type of mounting in the industry, but this if you like having bolt indents in you handelbar. Also the spring is not strong enough to hold the shifter in place in rough terrain.

Bottom Line:
I bought this as an alternative to Alivio triggers, because I had some Sram twist shifters I really liked on my city bike.
The Centera delivers some good shifting action but that is about it. Do not buy this shifters for montain-bikes, because the grip is very long and putting another set of grips is not really a solution; neither is riding all day long, in rough terrain with these. You will get alot of undesired shifts because they have a very light action and, especially when jumping, I tend to turn the shifter.
What they would be excellent for is city bikes and commuters. Very rapid shifting, and not much to go wrong with them (they have a single metal spring inside and that is it).
What I hate most about these shifters is the way they connect to the handlebars. To cut costs SRAM decided that we don't need collars for this shifter instead they esquiped it with a system you usual see on cheap lock-on grips. There is a small screw that drives itself in to the handelbar securing the shifter. Altough I don't think there is any risc of damage to the handelbar it is really a very bad solution. Nobody likes the idea of having little holes in their handelbars.
If you are in need o an 8 speed, Shimano compatible twistshifter the Centera might be your answer but I would get the Attack's or if you can find the old Centera shorty.
