Strengths:
Simple, durable, lightweight, price (sale), shifting, this set is the Attack Half Pipe Shimano compatible. Front "Trim" capability, Seems intuitive on the cassette shifting, at least to me.
Weaknesses:
None really but full half pipe too wide for my liking so cut them down to Rocket Shorty length

Bottom Line:
No complaints, remind me of the "crisp" action of the Sachs 7spd. Fast with the 9 speed notches pretty close together. Like the other reviewer said, would prefer them to be a little farther apart; but this is an "attack" shifter. No windows on this set, not much of anything to break. Pull them apart and incredibly simple action - works for me!! Since the bike is a hardtail and the trails I ride are usually way rough, the first time out I did some "accidental" shifting hanging on to the wide halfpipe grip. Piece of cake to narrow the grip down to 50mm, two digit length, same as the Rocket Shorty. Used a headtube cutting tool, pulled out the little end bushing insert, took it slow and easy, came out fine. Like the shorter grip much better. Who should buy them? If you're a trigger rider, you might want to try a twister before you buy to see what you think. I prefer them to the triggers for intermediate XC. Had to fix/replace parts on several trigger setups after crashes. Never with a twist type; and they've taken their fair share of hits. Shifting seems intuitive on the cassette. I really like the trim/overshift feature for the front - use it a lot for normal quick, positive, under power ring shifting and to stop derailleur cage rub on the newer, narrower XT/XTR. On the cassette, I can quickshift as many gears, up or down, in one motion, as I want or the cassette/derailleur with take. I have large hands so a standard Avid or Shimano brake lever works ok; but for my girlfriend's ride, I had to get a set of Sram brake levers as they don't have as much offset making them easier to reach with the Attacks. Doubt I'll ever be buying another trigger set of any brand. If you haven't tried these, and need shifters, check them out. 5 by 5 on the red hot chili peppers.

Bottom Line:
Loved the old 8 speed, very precise and "big" clicks between gears. Now with 9 speed the "clicks" are extremely close which makes it easy to over shift especially in a tough situation , ie; twisty rooty climbs. For racing I want my shifts dead on, I can't afford to have a light touch in order to avoid shifting 1-2 many cogs. Also 1/2 pipes tend to cause mis-shifts because your hands are on them ALL the time.When combined with the short clicks between gears things can go all to hell, quickly. If you dismount and have to run a technical section better keep your hands well away from the shifters or you'll accidently click, jump on start hammering, and CRUNCH goes your chain.

Bottom Line:
I hyperextended my thumbs and was wrecking shimanos. I kept the deore derailleurs and now my thumbs are stronger. You can grab all the gears you want at once, and are more intuitively shifting once used to it. Mine are 2001 Attack shortys(!) without the window indicator.

Since I don't have the shorty shifters the grip wears kinda fast on reg length shifter... but nothing serious.

Bottom Line:
Excellent shifters if you like to ride shimano rear derailleur but don't like Rapid fire for whatever reason. I would have gotten the Rockets originally but they were out of stock... these have worked out great!! I would recommend them to Ne1.
The reason they don't get 5 chilis is because the shorties would be better... they would get 5 flamers 4 sure.
