Strengths:    These things work! Smooth shifting, light action don't have to break your thumb or finger to complete a shift. They have withstood rough use and not failed once or shown signs of impending failure. Still shift smooth. Leapyears better than my first experience with Deore LX shifters back when the were called rapidfire, they broke within weeks.

Weaknesses:    Sometimes i hit the downshift lever into the granny gear with my knee and find that I'm in the granny when i goto pedal on technical descents.

Bottom Line:
Surprisingly good quality, good shifting, and great value for what i've seen them sell for online.

Strengths:    strong, light, shifts great, look good and dual release can ba very handy

Weaknesses:    none so far, except from user error not screwing the little cap that lets you lube the mechanism inside in properly but I easily sealed it up again

Bottom Line:
great shifters don't think i will ever change them

Strengths:    Tuck under the handle bar design and removeable shift idacators

Weaknesses:    not a whole lot of clearance between the shifter and the brake lever. If you like to swing down your brake so that your wrists are comfortable while standing you will have to rotate your shifters with you brakes.

Bottom Line:
These are good shifter and work well and can be found on EBay for cheap as take offs from new rigs. I really like the tucked under the bar design and the dual action of the finger paddle. I don't like the shape of the paddles but that is not a weakness of the shifter just a preference. My wife has Deore shifter on one of her bikes, and other than the non-removable shift indicators and different shaped paddles (shorter and embossed with the mega 9 logo) they appear the same. Bottom line; They are good, they are easy to find on EBay, and they work well with the other Shimano components if they are not LX.
