Submitted by Ned a Cross Country Rider from Australia
Date Reviewed: June 9, 2007
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:On Line Mail Order
Strengths:It's light
Weaknesses:Lousey design clamp renders this almost useless. No strength in the shaft so it snaps where it joins your frame. The 5 year warranty is a joke. No matter what you say these blokes reckon its your fault.
Similar Products Used:Too many to list here.
Bike Setup:Giant Trance.
Bottom Line:This post has got to go down in history as one of the worst on record. The clamp is pathetic alright.
I can't recollect a post costing so much that is this badly designed.
I'd really like to get a grip of the blokes that put this together and find out just how much they'd had to drink before they tested it.
Should have a health warning on it saying no one over 6 stone should use it and then only ride on smooth tarmac else it snaps like mine did. The 5 year warranty is a waste of time.

Date Reviewed: March 19, 2007
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:None
Weaknesses:Too weak. Mine finally bent but not before so much trouble with the clamp and the post always slipping down the frame.
Similar Products Used:Posts from Titec, Thomson, USE, Selcof, RaceFace and Post Moderne.
Bottom Line:Just about the worst and saddest post I've ever owned. Expensive junk. The clamp needs a total redesign for it to ever really work properly. And mine did not come with Titanium bolts like it advertised. Seems the bolts had to be tightened so much they would snap so X Lite replaced them with steel which makes the total claimed weight wrong. Post would always slip down in to my frame and after so much clamp trouble the post bent just where it joins the bike frame. Not even interested in getting a warranty replacement its so bad.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Chain Reaction
Strengths:Light
Weaknesses:Crazy idea for a clamp the just can't work.
I don't think that the post sizes are accurate. Even with the right X-Lite shim the post likes to move down into my frame.
Bottom Line:I live in Britain and I can tell you that only a British Company can produce such trash as this, charge the Earth and get away with it. There seems to be a culture in Britain that says the more you pay for something the better it's got to be.... this is X-Lite seatpost is an item that underlines the stupidity of that view. And the warranty, when I complained to X-Lite...they are just like Hope..the reply is "problem...what problem", ......Total trash.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:None other than feather weight.
Weaknesses:Lousey design means frustration and problems. Darn Expensive. Clamp is rubbish to use and to hold a saddle (...kind of amazing in a seatpost) , post always creaks and the legendary post slip, slip, slip.
Bottom Line:Avoid this post.
If someone gives you this post as a present or if you inadvertently receive it in the post...Do No Open it! Take the box and immediately place it in the garbage disposal!!

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Light
Weaknesses:Hopeless seat clamp. Impossible to stop it slipping into the frame.
Bottom Line:Wow...this could be the worst seatpost I have ever had.
Slips down the seat-tube no matter how well the shim fits. The post has a very smooth finish...WHY? You end up with having to re-adjust the seatpost height every 15 mins.
The clamp is a real work of stupidity, need a mallet to get the saddle into it. The extensive warranty is worthless. Email X-Lite and the answer is that it aint their fault. Rubbish post! Mine is in with the garbage. I would give it no chillis if I could.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Chain Reaction
Strengths:Its light and I got it cheap.
Weaknesses:Clamp is rubbish, the post creaks like an old man-'o-war. It slides gradually down in its shim. You have to buy a shim to get it to fit your frame on top of the cost of the post.
Bottom Line:This is one NOT TO BUY.
I got it cheap...like half price but its still one pain to get the saddle in. Nothing about the post gives me any confidence and I have had to tighten up the clamp bolts more tham I should have to. It slides down the shim because the post has a glass like finish to it. Its sooo British...like Hope and Pace stuff, looks great just doesn't work properly.

Strengths:Light
Weaknesses:Lousey clamp design. Polished shaft means that the post moves in its shim.
Similar Products Used:So So Many
Bottom Line:This is one of the worst posts that I have ever used. I quite literally put it in the bin today after endless years of trouble. I only put up with it because it was so expensive. The clamp assembly beggars belief...what was the designer thinking of??? The post is a polished finish and everyone knows you need a bead on gnarled finish to stop the post from slipping down. Absolute trash!!!!!!!! Not even worth 1 chilli.

Strengths:Light.
Weaknesses:Poor clamp design means that holding the saddle tightly is a challenge.
The post is too smooth and always creeps down in its shim.
Expensive.
Bike Setup:Marin Rift Zone
Bottom Line:Poor clamp design means that holding the saddle tightly is a challenge.
The post is too smooth and always creeps down in its shim.
I've always got to lift the post back up to the proper ride height during a ride which really p&%*%s me off. This is an expensive post with all the usual lack of any quality control that is the benchmark of so many British products these days. Expensive but badly thought through.

Purchased At:Winstanleys Mail Order
Strengths:Looks nice and has a good finish.
Certainly one of the lightest seatposts that I have tried.
Weaknesses:The clamp assembly is a poor design and requires such a lot of tightness on the 2 bolts to hold it in place. It does not inspire confidence and creaks too. Expensive!
Similar Products Used:Thompson, USE, Ritchey, Shimano XTR, Syncros and Kalloy
Bike Setup:Specialized 2002 FSR
Bottom Line:I have dumped this post as I lost my confidence in it. It always slipped until I washed all the parts in metholated spirits and tightened the bolts to way past the recommended torque settings. And even then I felt nervous about using too much layback on the saddle...which is one of the reasons why I chose this post. Not recommendable at all.

Strengths:Great looking post. Enormously light. Clamp stays in place.
Weaknesses:Difficult to set up. Expensive. Creaks.
Bottom Line:For a post that costs so much I expected a bomb proof solid post. I can't say that I've had any problems with it but I'm interested to note that other people have noises coming from the post. Noises mean something is wrong. Noises from your car means something is going to break and that's how I feel about this post. I've tightened the bolts but still get theses creaks and tick tock sounds. I've had cheap £15 posts that have been more solid than this . And when you read the magazine "reviews" you get the usual bull about it because they tested it for 2 minutes in the garden.

Date Reviewed: June 21, 2004
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $100.00
Strengths:Light and it looks functional.
Weaknesses:Difficult clamping process and a little too light to have the structural integrity to last.
Similar Products Used:Race Face, Easton, Shimano XTR post, USE, Selcoff, Thomson, FSA and Kore.
Bike Setup:Marin Mount Vision. Full XTR. Hope Mono Minis on Mavic XC717 Discs, Easton accessories.
Bottom Line:I am disappointed. The post is light and good looking. It is also expensive. The problem is that I was under the impression that because the Downhill World Champion uses this post that it must be very strong. It's a bit too light to have the strength in the clamp which creaks and ticks. In order to secure my Titanium WTB Saddle I have had to tighten the bolts way passed the recommendation from X-Lite. When you contact the Company you get no reply.
Very unprofessional. There are better posts on the market for around this sort of price like Easton and Race Face.

Strengths:Looks great, extremely light
Weaknesses:The bloody thing won't hold the seat up! The nose keeps dipping on me plus I almost tore my fingers to shreds when i installed the seat to begin with. I had to go to my bike shop and the guy needed a rubber mallet to get the clamp over the seat rails. the worst seat post I ever could have spent money on. My cheap Kalloy post lasted for 8 solid years!

Bottom Line:Incredible light weight but well engineered. No problems with slippage on the post or the seat clamp. Looks cool in the Borinium finish and the etched logo's are nice. 27mm of layback is great and the clamp design is easy to use. The only negative aspect is the price but overall a quality piece of kit.

Strengths:Very light, good layback, easy to use seat clamp, shim included in price, looks good, etched graphics and height markings
Weaknesses:a little expensive but worth it

Bottom Line:I have used this post for about a month and so far it has performed well. No creaking or slipping. The saddle clamp is easy to use. I was able to cut the post down to 28MM which redued the weight to 150 grams with the shim. This post is very light considering it has a 1 inch layback. The company is easy to deal with and shipped product the day after I placed the order. Bottom line - this is a top notch light seat post and so far I have no complaints.

I saw this post was made from Matrix, my card was out in a flash! Real nice quaility and design but the best bit for me is the weight, unreal!
