Submitted by T.R. a Cross-Country Rider from Germany
Date Reviewed: April 14, 1999
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
The Tune Seatpost is a very lightweight aluminium (7075 T6) seatpost. It weights 185 gr by 27,2 X 340mm. The seatpost tube offers different wall-thickness. The walls are thicker on the front and on the back off the tube. It's avaible in 340mm and 380mm and in 26,8; 27,0; 27,2; 31,4; 31,6;31,8. It offers a two bolt clamp mechanism. the Tune logo is lazered.
Weaknesses:
The clamp mechanism is very minimal to save weight. But it's workmanship is not very precise. The saddle rails do not fit precisly in the clamp mechanism, so you are not able to install the saddle correctly. You can install the saddle on the clamp but it does not fit perfectly. You have to take care about not overtighten the AL- bolts, because, if one bolt breaks, the saddle will get off the seatpost.
Similar Products Used:
I tried a Syncros and a Moots Seatpost. Both seatposts offers a better clamp on mechanism. The Syncros is heavier than the Tune (about 60 gr). The Moots weights about the same, but it looks more durable than the Tune. It offers a better clamp mechanism, which fixes the saddle perfectly.
Bike Setup:
Ti hardtail with front suspension. Saddle: Selle Italia Flite.
Bottom Line:The Tune seatpost is a lightweight seatpost, this is the most advantage of this seatpost. The clamp mechanism is not very durable and it is not manufactured precisly. In my opinion there are better seatposts on the market, if you want a lightweight, try the Moots. I give the Tune seatpost 3 stars.
