I sprained my ankle having the seatpost bolt snap on a flat street commuting to work. I think the f-ing x-wing design of the clamp puts a severe load on the top of the bolt and it finally snapped. I never thought of a design flaw until after seeing all the destruction of the top post. I've had a bolt shear off another post but that was from hitting the seat hard on a drop. All of my mountain bikes have a two or four bolt designs. And I look at all the other posts and I see a problem. Buy something else.

I was riding along and all of a sudden the screw snapped and I narrowly avoided disaster. That would have been pretty painful going from seat to rear tire if ya know what I mean. I lost the pieces that hold the seat to the post and the LBS doesn't have any replacement parts. I could contact TITEC but one close call is enough for me. Yo may want to avoid this product if you're over 200#. Maybe that's the problem with the screw. Two words people Thomp Son.

I'm another stem failure statistic. The single bolt design provides no safety if the bolt snaps. I've had the bottom mounting bolt snap twice. Both times I've had some serious injuries as a result. The first time I mailed the post back to Titec and they blamed a defective bolt and sent me the same post back with a new bolt. Now the replacement bolt has snapped I'm sure there is a design flaw here. The bolt was tightened properly during both failures.

I wonder what they will say when I bring this back. I have to wonder how this post ever made it to production. Didn't anybody test it? This seatpost is awful. If you are thinking of buying one don't. I have had all kinds of trouble with the seat constantly coming loose. I have broken the bolt on the clamp and had to ride back to my car with no seat. I replaced the bolt and have had even more trouble since. It doesn't take an engineer to see that the clamp system on this post is poorly designed. There is a reason that this post is the lowest rated on this site. I just wish I would have looked at the reviews before I bought it.

Since day one, I have had to constantly re-tighten the seatpost bolt on my Titec X-Wing with the net effect that the bottom hole of the rail cradle is enlarging due to the movement of the bolt and it's only a matter of time before it cracks. I called Titec for a replacement for their defective clamp assembly and was told that they would send me a new replacement post but seeing as the X-Wing / X-Wing Pro is no longer in production, they would send me a Knock model instead.
When the UPS person showed up, he wanted $81 (CND) to cover the tax and delivery charge on a post that according to Titec’s web site cost $69.95 (US) which converts to about $97 (CND), something is wrong here. Maybe I’m naive, but I was under the impression that getting a replacement for a defective product meant getting one at no charge. Bottom line, I refused the parcel and I am now in the market of a new post.

if you already own this post, trade it up for a thomson and you'll never have to buy another. if you're thinking about getting one because its cheap - don't. the single bolt clamping mechanism is super flexible, and eventually will break. before then, you'll be constantly tightening the bolt, and while you're riding, you'll feel and hear the movement. scary. its a cheap bolt, and the system is designed poorly so that there's a lot of leverage on it at a bad angle. it will break. titec's bars and stems are fine though.

I managed to get it to stick after that. Then at a race it failed during warm-up and would only clamp in a pointed down position. I was forced to bend the post to make it work for the ride.

The post came with the bike. I rode it 2-3 times a week and after the 2nd week became loose. Had to stop and tighten nut 2-3 times per ride. Then after about 6 weeks the whole clamp broke off and sent my seat flying into the bushes. This was on mile 5 of a 10 mile loop ride. Needless to say I was a little aggrevated about having to carry my seat and stand up the whole way back to the car! On a bike at that level you would think K2 would put a higher quality post on. This thing stinks! Bought a Thudbuster to replace it.

I too was suckered into this horrible product by receiving it on my new Homegrown. I took it on the trails my first time out for some light single track riding and noticed it kept coming loose. After about 5 tightening I just started ignoring it out of anger, then it broke. That was the end of that peice of garbage, I rode back to the Jeep with no seat. OUCH. I called Supergo, where I got my bike from, and they wanted to send me the same one, I told them not a chance, so they sent me a new featherlite post which has been fine.

If you come across a good deal on a bike that has Titec stuff on it, buy the bike knowing that you will have to replace the Titec stuff, but do not purchase any Titec stuff on your own free will, unless you like dealing with overpriced inferior equipment.

The new X-Wing clamp SUCKS! Every other ride this clamp came loose until it finally broke. Supergo warrantied it for me, but gave me a cheap Wayless post so I just purchased an older Titec post with their two bolt clamp system that was on clearance.

Bottom Line:
Titec has always made good product, but this is a really bad screw up on their part. I wish I would have seen the aleart from Titec earlier as the replacement post Supergo sent me is cheap. The fact that I purchased another Titec post shows my confidence that Titec is a good company that just made an error.

well, well, well. Titec is crap. First the bolt kept loosening in mid ride then on the 5-6th real ride the bolt broke. Replaced the bolt and bent the post on the next ride. I am 6'4" and 180, not that big that I should be bending posts on xc trails. My titec stem is ok but the machining on it is off a little, I don't trust it so I gave it away. Thompson is a quality product and worth the money. Exactly how bad is titec, well a kalloy post is much better, even bike machanics will tell you, titec is crap. If you have a bike with titec parts, replace them and keep them as back-ups for races and stuff.
A Message From Titec To Owners of the X-Wing Forged Post
Despite passing our rigorous in house and on trail testing, there are some X-Wing forged posts out there with clamp bolts that can work loose. If you have a post with a clamp bolt that comes loose, do not repeatedly retighten it, call or email us for replacement parts. We have a new and improved clamp assembly that we will get to you right away.
If you currently own an X-Wing forged post, please double check to ensure that your clamp bolt and washer combination was assembled correctly. The correct combination is: bolt, flat round washer, & concave washer - with the concave portion of the washer resting flush (fully seated) against the curve of the cradle bottom. If you discover any of the following: (1) post was tightened with the improper bolt and washer combination, (2) post was tightened with the concave portion of the washer turned away from the cradle, or (3) post was tightened with the concave washer not fully seated against the cradle - please contact us for replacement parts

for a bike that is designed for jumping and dual and the fact that i have yet to take the bike to the track (had for about 4 days) questions my theories as to whether titec truely believe in building quality products that are designed for the punishments of riding or they choose to cut costs by using poorly made cheap materials.

Seatpost came stock with my bike which ive only had for a few months. Seatpost worked great until yesterday when the freakin clamp stipped out and i only weight 140. Later i found out that the threads where broken, not stripped. Great seatpost but the clamp is a pile. I found out about the new clamp design they have so i called their customer service dept. The guy there was extremely polite and helpful. They are sending me out a new clamp free of charge. Ill post an update later on the new clamp.

The clamp broke on my 2nd ride - I weigh < 150lbs. There is no excuse for shipping a junk clamp design like that. And no excuse for specing it on a $2500 retail bike.
The moron who was posing as an engineer on that one should be fired. That's the kind of stupidity that puts people out of business when someone gets hurt.
On the other hand, the Titec guy is sending me new clamp hardware (with a new design, he said) and was pretty pleasant on the phone. It sounded like they've had a bunch of calls like mine. Maybe someone with a clue worked on the "new" version. I'm pretty skeptical, though...

2001 Schwinn Homegrown Pro - Titec X-Wing seatpost was standard.
Bottom Line:
This seatpost broke after approximately two hours of light use. The "X-Wing" clamp never did hold the seat rails securely and after being re-tightened a few times over the course of my first ride with it, the lower part of the clamp broke in two. In addition, the binder bolt/set screw severely gouged the aluminum of the post itself which would probably have caused it to fail as well.
The poor quality of this seatpost was shocking. Based on reviews of the Schwinn Homegrown Pro, I am not alone in having it fail after only a few minutes of use.
Bottom Line: If Titec can produce something as poor as the X-Wing seatpost, there is no telling how bad - and downright dangerous - their other products are. I have no faith in safety/reliability of Titec products and cannot recommend them to anyone.

worked for 5 months and it worked well. the grooved ramped clamp section on the top of the post is fairly universal. many other posts are like this, so replacement of parts was easy.
Weaknesses:
the clamp bolt broke in half while i was riding to the store.as did the x-wing clamp. graphics wore off, but i really dont care, just letting people know.

This posts clamp worked for about 5 months and then it broke. How ever it was easily fixed with my roomates posts parts. the actual post is fine. the clamp just sucks.post came stock as it came on many other schwinn bikes this year. moabs homegrowns and upper end machines. schwinn is now no more. Morons cut some corners by specing a poor product, to save money. Nothing against TITEC. The stem and bar work flawlessly. I like the width of the bar. Bottem line this post sucks.

umm, i think the actual post is kinda strong. maybe?
very weak. i have 9 miles on the bike and the post is shot. same story as the guy who posted before me. i rode with a friend of mine today, and she had a new k2 with the same post. she had about 15 miles on it, and hers was about 2 mm short of titec having a lawsuit on their hands. i have dealt with titec before and they do have great customer service. i just hope they see that this post needs recalled especially if they are aware of "poor milling" that screams workmanship to me.
in my opinion, if you want to buy a post, by all means buy a titec. layback, al-235, or any of their other posts are great. if an x wing showed up on your bike, call titec and ask them to replace it with another of their posts.
nothing is worth more than a single chili if it is prone to breaking.

Nice idea and light, but the crecent bracket broke in the first 5 miles. Called Titec and they happily sent me a replacement bracket. "They had some poorly milled pieces sent out" So far only 20 miles on post. Will see how new clamp works. Excellent customer service. Called CA @7am and they answered the phone cheerfully. What CA MTB'r is up and cheerful at 7am?
