Strengths:    Reasonable price. Fit and finish is nice.

Weaknesses:    Top clamping plate is not very strong. Developed a crack. Front allen adjusting bolt difficult to adjust.

Bottom Line:
I have been using the Race Face Ride XC Seatpost for about 6 months. Initially, I was pleased with the post. However, after using it for a while I would suggest to others to purchase an upgraded post compared to this one.

I have the 27.2mm diameter model. In order to get the seat adjusted flat the front adjuster had to be tightened all the way. Recently, I noticed that the top clamping plate had developed a crack in front of the bolt seat. Also, it is a little difficult to get an allen wrench into the front bolt to adjust it since it is so close to the post itself.

I emailed Race Face to see if I could get a replacement plate. Nope! They insist that you go through the retailer where the post was purchased. The retailer will not sell a plate separately, so I would be stuck purchasing a complete post. Many bicycle component manufacturers handle these type of situations directly with the end consumer. But not Race Face, so buyer beware!

The top plate on this seatpost is aluminum and not very robust, so be careful to not over tighten the seat on this post. I have a drop post on another one of my bikes from another company and the plate is made of steel; no problems cracking that plate.

So instead of ordering another one of these poorly designed posts I decided to order a Race Face Respond Seatpost. It does not have a top plate and uses a pair of rear bolts to set the seat angle and clamp it. Based on what I see the Respond post should be an all around better designed seat post.

All in all Race Face makes quality products. I have plenty of their stuff. This is the first time I have tried to get a part to fix one of their components, and I am pretty disappointed in their warranty/support policy. I would just suggest staying away from this particular design seat post.

Strengths:    Light
looks good
Dual Clamp design work well

Weaknesses:    Haven't found any yet.

Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a seat post while on a budget, this is the one for you. Its cheap(but not cheaply made!) and will last a long time. Doesn't hurt that it looks good too.
