Submitted by Sam Chin a Cross Country Rider from Los Angeles
Date Reviewed: May 30, 2005
Favorite Trail:Whiting Wood
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:came on bike
Strengths:Lightweight (I have the Ti version), comfortable, not sticky
Weaknesses:The leather is starting to wear away, I don't have kevlar ends
Similar Products Used:Various Trico saddles, some Specialized BGs, Selle Italias
Bike Setup:Bianchi Super GL
Bottom Line:When I first saw and felt the saddle, I found it to be hard and I worried about its lack of a depression in the middle. However, after riding on it for many miles, and landing on it hard, I have come to love it. It's the most comfortable saddle I own, in fact. I like it more than my super soft gel saddle. It hasn't broken or flexed on me, but I only weigh 130 lbs, so I never break stuff.
Unfortunately, the Ti version is hard to get now, but I highly recommend looking for one. It only weighs 275g.

Favorite Trail:urban
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:Alter Ego Sports
Strengths:-Really comfy
-Red Rails
-Kevlar siding
- rear bash guard
Weaknesses:- a Bit heavy
-REALLY WEAK!
Bike Setup:Brodie Bruzza - EXR Fork - Race Face DH cranks - Wellgo pedals...etc.
Bottom Line:It's a not bad saddle if it comes on your bike, but don't go out and buy one for $100 CAD. It came on my bike, but i landed on the back on it after doing an endo (stoppie), and it bent like cardboard. Maybe this was my fault, but i'm sure if you hit a bump on the trail and it the seat with you ass, it would do the same thing. Leave it on your bike until it breaks, and then get a new one with better rails.

Date Reviewed: July 9, 2003
Favorite Trail:Neds Atomic Dustbin
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Local Bike Shop, Vancouver
Strengths:Looks the part
Weaknesses:weak, so called 'cromoly rails'
Similar Products Used:WTB Laser V
Bike Setup:Brodie Brute Hardtail
Bottom Line:Worst seat I've ever owned. Rails bent after the first ride (on flat XC trails with no drops), and I'm normal body weight (170lbs). Local bike shop bent it back into shape - next ride, same thing happened. Now it is completely bent to one side. Maybe I just got a dud seat, in which case the quality control at Titec needs to do a better job. Overall, disappointed with purchase, expected better from Titec - they make decent bars and stems.

Date Reviewed: June 5, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:bikeroom.com
Strengths:cheap, not flashy, seems to be built ok
Weaknesses:kind of wide, foam padding dies
Similar Products Used:about 20 other seats. Flite Italia Ti being the best ever.
Bike Setup:Large Heckler w/ fifth element and Marzocchi Z3's
Bottom Line:I was pretty happy when I first put this saddle on to replace a pooched Serfas Crossbow. It seemed to have decent cushion without a spongy feel. I've liked the Titec seats in the past as their flat sides made them easy to move forward and back on and the tail section and nose were comfortable for my size (6' x 180lbs). This one seems a bit bigger and harder to get behind. The last few rides I've found that the foam is compressed and there is a hard 'spine' running down the center so the boys are telling me it's got to go. Wierd as it is, it seems slipperier than it used to be too, almost like someone coated it with PAM. Makes it very hard to stay seated in a chosen position.

I've had no problems with bent rails or creaking.

I'm trying a WTB Speed V-Race next.

Strengths:comfortable, great customer service, plenty of not too soft padding in the right places
Weaknesses:none what so ever
Similar Products Used:Brooks Pro(remember those?)Flite,Avocet ti,SDG
Bike Setup:Turner 02,Marzocchi,Chris King all around,XT,Thompson,Hopey steering damper
Bottom Line:First, everyone must keep in mind that saddle reviews are very subjective. What a great saddle!Ive been using these since they came out (`98?)Ive got 4 of them, 2 ti and 2 cro mo.One is even on my `cross bike. This is the longest saddle Ive seen, that helps to shift your weight around to sustain traction. The padding is just right, not too firm and thin like most of the lightweights, not too soft so your pelvic bones punch all the way to the shell like most of the'comfort' saddles out there.Theres plenty of padding on the nose so you can plant your butt right on the end (and not mind it too much) to clean ultra steep climbs. The kevlar is great. Its actually helped me climb the tough stuff better. The kevlar is great. This stuff should be on ALL saddles. The first berserker I bought in'98 is still working fine after many crashes. The viking emblem wore off long ago,but Im not complaining. This is a great saddle for epic rides. Most of my rides are 4-10 hours, sometimes longer.Ive never had a saddle that remains comfortable for so long.I crashed once on a bunch of logs and knocked the saddle off the ti rails.Titec was right down the street from my house in Sunnyvale.I took it to them, they had this neat custom tool and popped the rails back in.They appologized and gave me a pair of socks for my 'troubles'.I thought crashing was my fault!Titec also offered to trade my ti saddle for a cro mo one. They said the stiffer rails resist the flexing from crashes better.I dont crash too much so I declined.Ive let 5 of my buddies try these saddles and every guy bought one, only one guy found something better suited to his needs. Its too bad they dont make this particular model anymore. The new berserker is way too big and heavy, more of a downhill only saddle.

Strengths:Comfort
Weaknesses:durability
Similar Products Used:San Marco, Selle itailia
Bike Setup:FS XC
Bottom Line:First off, saddle comfort deals mostly with body to saddle size. At 210 lb. this is the only saddle I have found that really fits me well for long rides (SM100). I love the saddle but I go through about two a year. Given the conditions and distances I ride I am not sure any saddle would hold up much better but the cover seems to get torn up on these faster than most. And just forget the screw in the back staying in. If you are heavy or plan to do any sort of jumping go with chromo rails. Having said that I am now going to buy two more today.

Bike Setup:GT, Bontrager Mustangs, Shimano XT, RaceFace, Thomson, Marzocchi, Chris King
Bottom Line:This is for the XC Ti rails with Kevlar sides version.

I'm not sure what others are experiencing. It appears as if this is a different model. This one is awesome. I immediately felt a huge diffence in comfort and performance. It looks good as well and the kevlar sides was smart. Seems to be durable although I haven't crashed with it yet.

I'd like to try other saddles out in the future to compare but this one is by far the best I've tried over the past 12 years. An excellent buy.

5 stanky piles all the way!

Date Reviewed: July 4, 2002
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $65.00
Purchased At:Somewhere online, maybe Price Point?
Strengths:Nice support for sit bones, wide nose for up-front hammering, kevlar reinforcement around the back and sides, easy off the back, durable and resilient, still looks new.
Weaknesses:None so far.
Similar Products Used:Specialized, fi'zi:k
Bike Setup:Specialized Stumpjumper Pro '98 - mostly stock, replaced original crankset and bottom bracket, handlebar twice, shifters twice.
Bottom Line:This review is for the Berserkr DH KTi. I set it up on my Specialized hardtail because of the extra support and padding on the DH model. I've put it through hell, with numerous crashes to its credit. I just stripped out one of the screws on the rear bumber in a crash last week, but I called Titec about the problem and they sent out a brand new bumper right away, no questions asked. Their customer service department is great. Overall the saddle works extremely well. It's probably the most comforable saddle I've ever owned. It's never given me a single problem. If you need extra sit-bone support without all the superfluous padding, you can pick one up for cheap now; online stores have them for around $30 or less for the models that have been discontinued, like mine. It should be a worthwhile investment.

Wider saddle from horn to tail.
Weaknesses:Haven't experienced any.
Similar Products Used:Salsa, SOG, Sella
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Superlight
Bottom Line:Several people have complained that the Titanium rails were weak and broke or bent right away. I weight 208 lbs, and hammer that seat pretty hard... I haven't experienced any problems. The saddle might feel hard and unforgiving to the touch, but it really is comfortable where it counts... I can ride long periods of time on this saddle, and stay comfortable. The wider tail isn't difficult to get around and behind for descents, and the wider horn is comfortable enough to sit on during steep ascents. I liked this saddle enough that I purchased an extra one so that if I ever wear out (not break!) the original, I'm covered.

Bottom Line:When a customer walks into a bike shop and starts his spiel with "I was just riding along", it is supposed to mean that the product was abused and is now broken do to misuse or use beyond what the designer had designed the product for. This saddle, the Beserkr DH KTi, was on my commuter hardtail and has seen less than 10 days of offroad use on mellow trails, no jumping. I bought it because I liked the Beserkr I had on my FS trail bike that has steel rails. Well the Ti rail snapped on my ride home on the ROAD! The rail broke halfway between the seatpost clamp and the back of the saddle. The saddle is called DH. I am 185lbs for what it is worth. No probs with the steel (KCx) rails so far. Beware!

Bike Setup:2001 FSR XC Pro Stumpjumper.
Bottom Line:This saddle sucks. I bought it because it got some decent reviews here and returned it the same day. After just one ride, I felt like I got kicked in the nards. Titec was on the right track with the design, but why make it such a hard seat? They call it an XC saddle, but the materials used and lack of comfort just defeats the whole purpose. Couldn't they have thrown some gel in there?

Bottom Line:Buy this saddle! I bought the DH-KTi (which is still available.. from Titec and other resellers) I've tried a great many, many saddles in my pursuit of the perfect balance between comfort and free-ride/downhill performance.. and this one is the hands-down winner. The problem I faced with saddles in the past was that I could never find one that was comfortable yet narrow enough to allow easy slide-off the rear. The Titec is absolutely awesome.

And thanks to all the reviews on this page (and the direct endorsement I received on the message board).. I would have never known about this saddle otherwise.

Weaknesses:Creaks a little
Similar Products Used:none-my first DH seat
Bottom Line:I have the downhill model with titanium rails- the DH Kti, which has been discontinued. The new ones have hollow cro-mo rails, which alot of people have probs with. The seat creaked a little at first, which was solved by greasing the rails and using White Lightning on the contact point of the rails/seat. I really like this seat- big enuff to sit comfortably on for the long climbs, yet easy to get off the back off. I haven't tried similar products, but I think this is a good one and recommend it.

It is labelled as being a DH saddle but from all of the people I've spoken to at various bike shops it seems as though a lot of XC/Weekend Warriors are using this post b/c it is tough and down right comfortable. It allows me to sit on the saddle for longer stretches and I don't walk away after a ride with saddle sores. Just don't pay full price for it...Pricepoint.com has got it for around 50 usually. Similar Products Used:Terry Liberator, Velo Ti, Selle Royal (several types), etc
Bike Setup:DNA Ti frame, USE seat post sometimes XCR sometimes rigid.
Bottom Line:You can see what I thought of the Terry Men's liberator, which explains why I'm going back to my red KTi!
It's a good saddle! It has long rails so there's plenty of scope for adjustment on it, it's light, and you don't get wet going through puddles!!
Also it's a lot easier to fit an under saddle bag as it's got that adjustment.
If you've see a KTi going cheap then think about it as I'd rate them!
I've given it a 4/5 as I reckon if the price were to drop, I got mine for £34-99, then I'd rate it a 5.

Strengths:This thing is like sitting on a couch! I have never had any numbness problems(HEY NOW) so I can not comment on that, but a friend of mine who did took my bike for a spin and said it felt great. On top of that he is a XC weight weeny, so go figure. Other cool things: I have the KTi DH model and it does not make a sound, it is holding up well despite multi-weekly thrashings, and it just looks burly!
Weaknesses:The leather finish(red) started to fade pretty quickly. I use mink oil on it and it has remained nice and soft with a nifty patina.

Other reviews have mentioned problems with the cromo versions even with smaller riders, but so far this has not been my experience and I weigh 225 lb. No saddle is for everyone, however if you have a barcalounger of a bike this will top it off nicely.

Bottom Line:As a woman I've searched and searched for a saddle that felt good but wasn't so wide I couldn't get off the back for descents. The Berzerker answered some of these issues. Slow tortuous climbs are just a little easier. Instead of hovering I can rest some of my weight on it's long nose. However with all the movement of climbs and descents, by the end of the day I'm bruised and feeling like I wore sand-paper underwear to the trail.

Also because it's so long it also weighs more and for those riding a FS rig, every ounce counts.

I'm not sure they'll ever make a saddle that feels good to everyone, works well and weighs minimal. The quest continues...

I'm actually suprised that more women don't ride them. They offer great sit-bone support, plenty of room for fore and aft movement, and are not too wide to get off the back.
I ride the K-Ti version, if one wanted more padding they coudl try the DH model.
I've had my current one for over two years. It's been through some nasy wrecks and the leather is starting to show some wear, but other than that it's still going strong.

I ordered the titec berserker DH from a local bike shop and waited 2 weeks for it to come in. Before ordering it I was impressed by the full page adds in mountain bike mag. and the general reviews published here.
When I went to pick up the saddle I found it to be the poorest made piece of garbage I've ever seen for sale in the USA. the rails were not bent the same, causing the saddle to lean to one side when installed on a seat post. the rear portion of the cover was glued to the plastic shell of the saddle in an extremely sloppy manner. I didn't take delivery on the saddle and asked the bike shop to send it back, He had ordered two of them, they both had the same rail problem and the sloppy gluing. One of them was much worst that the other, but both were very,, very poor quality.
Lower end saddles look straight and well made when they are new at a cost of around $20.00, this poor excuse for a bike saddle for a whopping $99.00 is an insult to any knowledgable bikers intelligence. Don't buy this thing!!! there are much better saddles on the market for far less money.

Titec Berserker DH with Ti rails: official reports at 302 grams. Undeniably comfortable and an excellent back and butt primer to the harsh world of cross-country racing/riding on a super stiff hardtail. The quality of the seat is below average. The glued seams are poor. The quality of the leather is extremely poor as the logos have worn completely off (I don't care about advertising anyway) and the leather has become roughened and prone to cracking (SnoSeal or Armor All is required every other ride)
Now, the seat is probably a bit too wide and restricts (ever slightly) fore/aft mobility and probably affects an efficient pedal stroke (speculation....)
Overall, a good product for cross country consumer looking for several months of butt acclimation training without adding excessive weight.

I have recently bought Titec's DH KTI saddle and I think they are the most comfy seats I have ever ridden. I was a bit skeptical at first but after trying it, my groin doesn't get numb or sore anymore. The first time I tried it, the seat was squeaking like mad, especially when the trail is bumpy. I threw in some lube where the rails attach to the seat and the problem is solved. The workmanship on the seat is questionable, especially the poor glueing of the leather to the seat when compared to the rest of the more established brands. Otherwise it is one great saddle, highly recommended to all big riders.

Well got this over a year ago. A simple leather, Cro-mo rails Berserker XC. I'm 5'10 and 135lbs. It has worked pretty well over my last saddle which was a stock trek crap thing.
Has been Pretty good I guess. Light, and easy to clean. It took a while to get set up right for my boney butt but once in position my privates dident fall asleep anymore. Quality is questionable. The leather is sturdy as well as the rails, padding and the plastic base. The shabby glue job holding the leather under the saddle is pulling apart (now after 1 year) and the leather is coming undone. Maybe it was the rain, wet, freezing weather last winter that did it in. I'm not shure. It's been fun for a year but i'll Definatly be getting a new one very soon.I'm probably going to get a WBT sst 98. A little more pricey than my Berserker but then i got tired of fine tuning it every couple of rides to keep me from going numb. Shooting for something with a bit more padding.
I was thinking of going for the Berserker-DH (of course with more padding) but after the quality problem I mentioned here i'll give the WBT a try. Altogether a good XC saddle (light and comfterable for under 4 hour rides) but dont' pay too much as it may fall apart on you after a year.It gets a solid 4 chilllllis from me. Maybe 3.5 ...

My Klein Attitude comes stock with WTB saddle (like a lot of bikes these days). It is rock hard, but fairly light. I wanted something comfortable for practice. Tested several high dollar saddles and, after reading and hearing excellent reviews, bought Titec DH (ti rails, Kevlar, 302 grams). This saddle is long, wide AND extremely comfortable. My hardtail is STIFF and I can finally ride hard and long without an aching buttox. It feels like a gel seat, but is only 2.5 ounces heavier than trick race saddle. You will acclimate to the width (I was skeptical at first) and it does not hinder steep climbs or descents (rock quarries in Ocala). Price Point has them for $50. But just go to your local bike shop and ask them to come close to matching that (mail order: no tax, but steep S&H fees). I'm giving 4 stars because I feel Titec took a few shortcuts in production. The logo is already wearing off and the Kevlar is raveling a bit. Also, the underneath seam is glued rather tenuously. Otherwise, super cush ride. Get one at least for practice. (I probably will shed the ounces in the next race)

The kevlar is starting to show through in one place (I can only imagine how it would look if it didn't have the kevlar). The leather is now pretty scratched up but has not torn yet. The vikings on the side have departed for Valhalla but who cares. This is the first saddle that I haven't shredded in the first 6 months. It is also the most comfortable saddle I have ridden. Review of: Titec Berserker DH Kevlar with titanium rails,
puchased from PricePoint for $49.95
What a disappointment. I had such high hopes for this saddle. It is very plush
and comfortable without being too big or heavy. The padding is thick but not overly soft and the extra nose length was much appreciated for steep climbs.
It could have been the perfect cross country saddle. Unfortunately, the rails
bent on my second trail ride and the whole seat shifted over to one side. I did
NOT crash or abnormally impact the saddle. I weigh 157 pounds and ride with a
suspension seatpost. I sent it back to Titec and although
the service rep was very courteous I was not happy with the outcome of our
conversation: I could buy a replacement for $38. Bent ti rails are not a warranty item.
WARNING: In my opinion, this product has a design flaw. Look at the rails - notice that they are longer and lift the saddle higher than on other saddles.
THEY CANNOT HANDLE THE RESULTING INCREASED LEVERAGE. This saddle should not be
marketed as Berserker Downhill. It can not even withstand normal cross country
riding, and I think it would last about 10 seconds on a downhill bike. It is
best suited for tiny elves riding single-speed beach cruisers on the boardwalk.
I hope for a recall and a redesign of this potentially excellent product.

When I tried my buddy's downhill version of this saddle I liked it so well I got my own, except I got the CX version with chromolly rails to support my 190+ pounds. I've had it since Christmas and so far so good. It doesn't have the padding of the downhill version but where I'm currently using it, on my road bike, it is working great. No more numb nuts.

The Berserker is a kick ass saddle that can handle itself in the worst of conditions, and is very comfortible. I weigh 160 lbs and it didn't bend or flex, the rails held up great. Although I do not sit in the saddle much at all except for on downhills the seat proved very comfortible and easy to maneuver in.

Hmmm... Like the seat, hate the rails - can you say bendy? I weigh 85 kgs, and am constantly bending the rails back into shape. Just not strong enough for me. The seat design is great. Comfy, lots of riding positions (my cods don't get so numb...), long nose gives great control when cornering, easy to get off the back, raised rear helps in climbing. If it weren't for those bloody rails, this would be a 5 chili job. Maybe the model with Ti rails would be better (and more $$). Oh yeah, the Viking logos wear off on the first ride (big deal). I really only to give it a 2.5 chili rating, which doesn't exist, so I've gone for 3, as it's definitely better than a 2!

I bought this saddle last week have seriously used it only once but I love it. It is by far the most comfortable saddle I have ever used and at 290g it is light enough for technical cross country riding. The wider mid section gives a great amount of support and it is easy to get your butt of the rear for technical downhills. it is easily ten times more comfortable than the Vetta TT that it replaces but only 75g heavier. Get a Titec and save your labido!

I got the seat and threw it on my KHS TEAM bike. I could not be happier, I thought it was too big at first. But to my surprise the little bigger saddle helped with control and comfort on long rides.

I bought an FS bike last year for comfort reasons, little did I know that I could have almost gotten away with just this saddle. Comfy is almost an understatement. How does an extra 1 of suspension sound ! That's just the beginning though, the wider waist section not only gives you better control when gripping the seat on gnarly descents, but there a also about a bazillion comfortable setups for climbing. Despite my best efforts I can't even manage to snag my shorts on the nose. It took me thousands of miles to find out, but MTB seats can actually be comfy coasy without any performance sacrifice. On the down side I really wanted red leather (like in the ad dudes !) but was told the kti only came in black ???? Also the really cool viking twins have pretty much worn off. Performance is 5+ chili's, looks 4.

Upgraded to the Berserker DH 6 months ago. You could sleep on this saddle.
It is supremely comfortable , have never had A__ ache since . You can slide on and off as if it wasn't there .My only complaint is the threads of Kevlar which keep coming loose . I smear gobs of Dubin over the underside to keep in place.
Very cushy , light , extra width of middle , long Ti rails , flared back with tapered sides that drop below seatpost clamp . Damn near perfect .

I am 14 years old and I took my uncles top of the line GT bike out for a ride. When I came back the Ti seat rails were bent and I didnt even fall. I am 120 pounds. He is trying to get a new one with the life time warranty and they will not send him a new seat.

I have the Berserkr kti DH model on my XC Ventana...really
a nice piece! It replaces a WTB SST Ti- gained some grams,
but added more in comfort and ease of body positioning. It
is ~3/4 inch longer than the SST, with an extended nose and
smoothly shaped rear...I can do the on-and-off saddle tran-
sitions easier than ever! I agree with the Mountain Bike
review saying that this is a fine XC seat. Gimme five!

I have the Beserker DH KTI. Don't let the name fool you, this is a great x-country saddle. I used to have a WTB SST, the beserker is just as light, and has just enough padding to make it very comfortable. The slightly wider middle section is perfect for controlling the bike on the twisted New-England trails. I love this saddle!!!!

I've had my Titec saddle for six months and it's a very good saddle. I find
it easy to drop off behind on steep descents and for climbing it's unbeatable!
I'm 180 pounds and like to stay seated on climbs and the long nose is very comfortable for this. The padding is done to perfection, not too much or too little and the leather cover seems pretty durable. I would like to see the cover stapled as well as glued although I haven't had it come loose yet. Finally, a company that's thought of the requirements of a saddle for off road!

After one too many long rides on my Vetta TT, I tossed it out and went
shopping for a new saddle. I looked around and decided to try out the
WTB SST, since everyone who has one seems to love it.

At the LBS, I found the SST, sitting next to the Berserkr. I remember someone
actually recommending the Berserkr over the SST, so I was kinda torn.

Appearance wise, the Berserkr is shaped almost exactly like the SST --
including the crotch-saving downward bent nose, only bigger.

The nose is wider, but seems to have more padding. It's about
1-1.5 longer, and about 1 wider. Prices are within $10. The Berserkr
has Kevlar reinforced sides, and (the one I got) titanium rails. I
paid $70.

The extra surface area really pays off on the long flat rides. Getting
off the saddle is no problem, and I have yet to catch my shorts on it. The
leather has been pretty resistant to tears, probably due from the fact that
there's kevlar where most of the rips tend to happen.

I thought the larger-than-usual nose would be a problem, but it's pretty
darn comfy, and it doesn't rub against my thighs like I thought it might.

Good saddle, no sore crotch, no sore ass after even 3+ hour flat rides!
Only complaint is that the logo rubbed off on the first ride. It had a
cool little viking dude on the back, and the logo on the sides. Oh well, don't
really need that to ride.

Only a 4 since it hasn't (yet) proven itself over time.
