But not so!
Even though it's has the cut out love channel, the think padding of the saddle still semi causes pressure on the crotch area.
Having a butt that has little padding of it's own, means that your crotch area sits lower than say a person with a more fat on their tush. So as your sit bones sink into the padding, your crotch does aswell.
So pass on this saddle if you are lightweight rider.
I found that the BG Pro with it's thinner padding is more comfortable that this saddle.
The rails creaked on the first ride and only got worse over time. The sound is distracting and raises questions about durability.
The pleather cover material is not durable for mtn bike riding. Also, as your legs pedal, the friction builds up alot of heat, the most I have felt for a saddle.
If you are in the market for a plush sport saddle, the Serfas Rx Performance is similarly shaped and is of better quality. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$25.00 | | Purchased At: | Cycle Surgery (price is in UK pounds) | | Strengths: | Does it's advertised job of protecting my tackle from numbness. Comfort. Inexpensive.
| | Weaknesses: | A little extra pressure on the sit bones. Heavy. Cover looks light weight, as if it will tear easily.
| | Similar Products Used: | Generic saddles | | Bike Setup: | Airborne Lucky Strike. Race Face/XTR setup. | | Bottom Line: | The saddle performs well and is comfortable, prevents numbness after rides. I've put in a couple of heavy going (British Winter) five hour rides since I've had this.
As mentioned the covering looks flimsy and the saddle is quite heavy, although as mentioned it is inexpensive.
An interesting thing to note is saddle positioning, I usualy position my saddle far back on the rails to extend my ride position so I am low and aggressive. I found that if I did this I lost the advantages of the Body Geometry. As a result I've got the seat a little further forward than normal.
I've found this saddle a little too wide in the rear end, this is to be expected as it comes in the sport class. The upshot of this is that during technical and fast descents when usually lent really far back, some control is lost as the legs are pushed farther apart, meaning some of the deft touch on the saddle with the thighs is lost.
For the price this saddle is excellent. I plan to uograde to either the pro or comp version to take advantage of lighter weight, slimmer profile and hardier materials (Kevlar in the pro version I think). | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I have just started mountain biking and love it to death. The stock saddle that came with my bike just wasn't cutting it. After about an hour of riding I was in such pain I had to turn around and head home. I searched far and wide for the perfect saddle. I finally came to performancebike.com and saw the Specialized Body Geometry Sport and thought I would give it a try. I do have to say that Performance Bike does suck in the way they do business but once I got my saddle it was well worth the wait. The only downfall to the saddle is that it is made cheap but what do you expect for $35 when now days the average saddle cost is around $95. If you take good care of it like you should, I would expect years of enjoyable riding. The saddle is sleek, lightweight, affordable, and very attractive on any bike. I would recommend this saddle to anyone riding. The only regret in life I have is that I should have bought the Specialized Body Geometry Sport sooner. from Melbourne, Australia Date Reviewed: June 5, 2001 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | Very comfortable if you ride it in the sweet spot | | Weaknesses: | This saddle has a very pronounced sweet spot. If you ride towards the back of the saddle it can be very comfortable, but if you ride the nose of the saddle a fair bit, as I tend to do, it's torture. The rails have very little flex, the shell is very rigid, and the padding soft, with the result that if you sit further forward, the hard shell soon starts digging in to your perineum, and numbness quickly follows. This may be an indictment of my riding style, but I would have thought that Specialized could design a seat that could be ridden comfortably in any position. It's also a very heavy saddle, and the construction quality is not the best | | Similar Products Used: | SDG Comp Bel-Air, WTB Speed V | | Bottom Line: | You'll probably find this a good buy if you ride towards the back of the saddle and don't mind the weight. I have ridden a fair number of 1000mile tours and have had numbnob problems with a few saddles. If people are finding that the rear of the saddle is the most comfortable place, then sit there! The front of the saddle is harder and has less of a cutout for your tackle. One problem I noticed with the saddles was that a few of them in the shop had offset rails. This meant that they were canted to one side. This was not to any great degree but could be a problem on very long rides, so check before you buy. I have met some people who have used the saddles for several months and were very impressed by their comfort. Some of the saddles had compressed a fair bit so I'm not sure that they would last for a few years of hard riding. The one I got was so comfortable that I got a second one for my other bike. My problem with the Specialized saddles is that both are tearing in the lower rear area after only about 6 months wear, and I only put on about 125 miles/week of relatively gentle riding for both bikes combined. My advice would be to go to one of Specialized middle-of-the-line saddles - they're still pretty well padded - but with a leather covering and with Kevlar in the lower rear areas to prevent premature wear - that is, unless you're getting this for someone that may ride all of a 100 miles all year long. $40.00 | | Purchased At: | Supergo | | Strengths: | Relieves pressure from important areas like it should. | | Weaknesses: | Ugly as sin. Heavy as hell. Bulky. Too wide. Poor materials. I got a 2 inch rip after my first crash! The "pleather" is sooooooooooo cheap and thin. Too much cushy padding too, makes you feel like you're not really connected to the bike. | | Similar Products Used: | NA | | Bike Setup: | Specialized Big Hit Pro FSR,Marz.Jr. T, Hayes hydros etc... | | Bottom Line: | If you mainly ride on the road for transportation and such I suppose this seat will be fantastic. If you are a more demanding trailrider and need to maneuver a lot more, do not consider this saddle. It's width alone makes sliding of the rear for descents quite difficult. Also the nose has a tendency to want to enter the rider on steep uphills (no sloped nose). Bottom line: I just bought the wrong seat. This one really was not designed for agressive riding off-road. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$40.00 | | Purchased At: | City Cycle, Stoneham, MA | | Strengths: | Very comfortable saddle that concentrates your weight on your butt bones instead of your crotch. I still wear padded shorts, but I don't know if I need them anymore. | | Weaknesses: | The vinyl will rip easily, especially on the sides if you dump the bike or even lean it against something rough. The protective plastic should go further up the side the avoid this problem. A little heavy, if you're a gram counter. | | Similar Products Used: | WTB saddle | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale Super V. | | Bottom Line: | A good saddle that is worth the money. It takes some getting used to if your used to tradition Mtb saddles. You'll feel like your floating at first. I recommend setting it up a little further forward than a normal saddle. Also, reinforce the side with some sort of tape to avoid the vinyl ripping. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$40.00 | | Purchased At: | Performance | | Similar Products Used: | Terry's The Fly | | Bottom Line: | This is a great saddle. I'd like to buy the Body Geometry Comp but I can't justify an additional $60. I did buy Terry's The Fly because I had read a couple of excellent reviews on it and found it for $79.95. However, it was too narrow for my big ass (I'm 6 '3", 210 lbs.) and too hard. The boys were fine at the end of a 25 miler but my toes were numb and my back hurt. After two rides I took it back and put the Body Geometry back on. It looks kind of stupid on a sleek Trek 5500 but who gives a rat's *** when, at the end of the ride I can still feel all my body parts. Buy this saddle. $39.95 is such a bargain. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I just got a new FSR xc and hte stock saddle had me begging for mercy at the end of the day. So the next ride I tried out the specialized MTB sport.
I barely made it 1mile into the trial then had to turn around, my but hurt to bad, really bad.
So I picked up the straight sport model NOT the MTB version this one is pleather and softer to the touch and feel.
WOW! this thing feels great and there was virtualy NO PAIN after a 3 hour ride. It got cut on a fall but hasnt gotten worse. All I can say is that I was sure that I had to lay off to give the but time to heal up, but this saddle despite not being the sexiest thing on the trial and may get me some sideways glances does not hurt my but AT ALL.
It was only $40. I can get off it easily and get way back on thge downhills, and only got caught on it once, but it was pretty hairy, the trick was to put my mind to clearing hte saddle on the way back up. A small price to pay for being abel to ride longer.
At the end of the day my but feels fine and I can keep going, I have yet had to turn back due to the pain down there. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I used to get bad "Numbnuts" on my road bike to where it went down your leg. I can do centuries now with no pain or discomfort. Any you can't beat the price. I paid like $40 each for mine. I know the Comp model was like $99 'cause I had one of those on my old road bike, but it was too narrow for my butt. It's just so comfortable. The design and padding really work. It's not like other saddles where your sitting on some piece of cheesy foam and there's hard plastic or wood. Trust me. If you don't like it, What are out $40 bucks? The seat sucks. Now that i'm commuting to work daily on it, every day I get home and have to check to make sure "i'm still all there." The back of the seat is fine, but the nose causes the infamous numbnutz like nobodys business.
I'm riding the seat for now only because I can't afford the Selle Flite Gel seat I've had my eye on. But once the paycheck comes, boom. Byby Specialized.
FWIW, this is the "Specialized BG MTB Sport" seat.

Comfortable. | | Weaknesses: | High cost? $40 for a saddle isn't much, but if you don't need it, then its $40 too much. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Hardrock stock seat. | | Bike Setup: | Specialized Hardrock 99. BG MTB Sport saddle. | | Bottom Line: | The hardrock is famous for being named for its seat, a hard rock. I was looking for some cheap replacement seat with a different type of padding than the hardrock since the hardrock's padding clearly did no good. The BG Sport MTB seat was $39 at my local bike shop, so just for kicks I picked one up.
Make a note... the BGS Sport and BG Sport MTB are two different seats. The MTB is smaller, with "a shorter nose for a more upright position" and is more rugged material.
Installation is just the same for any other seat in the universe. 6mm key removes the seatpost retainer clamp, snap the new seat in place, adjust, tighten. Takes you 2 minutes.
Initial riding impressions were poor. I'm a new biker and, to be blunt, my behind has been getting REALLY sore on longer (road) rides. This didn't immediately cure that problem, and thus I was disappointed. However, after my daily 6 mile ride, I hopped off the bike and noticed it wasn't as sore anymore. I'm chalking that up to the seat. I've gotten some more saddle time on it since then, and although the initial soreness is there, it doesn't get worse or last as long as it used to. Must be doing something right.
The bottom line is that the seat is not the only solution in the world. Its not day and night. Its not the answer to all your problems. It is, however, a darn good solution. Had I to do it over again, the only difference I'd make is probably buying the Sport (non MTB) saddle since its just a little more comfortable for road use, and sadly thats where the most of my time is spent. However, i'm not going to return it and exchange it, even though I can, so make of that what you will.
Excelent value, great seat. You can't go wrong with it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I had to wait all winter to get my hands on mine, All the local shops were sold out in July 99. I've only been on it about 4 hours so far... but it's definitely a keeper. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

As soon as I got on it I noticed the difference. With my old gel saddle I had leg pain from my groin to my ankle, but no more. The opening in the middle does take some getting used to. Excellent value considering I bought it on sale at Nashbar's for $20. I will return with another review after I have used the saddle for a few months. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
