Favorite Trail:too many in Routt Co to decide
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $75.00
Purchased At:website
Strengths:didn't seem to notice a break-in period. very acceptable comfort without a great deal of weight or girth.
Weaknesses:none, thus far
Similar Products Used:Selle Italia Flite, Fizik, Torelli Amalfi SL
Bike Setup:Moots YBB
Bottom Line:No pun intended, the ride up Zig Zag (Steamboat Ski Mtn)was absolutely bottom, basement pleasing. For once the expected pain in the legs while mountain biking was virtually unaccompanied by extreme ischial tuberosity discomfort and inappropriate gluteal ischemia.

Favorite Trail:Landahl, Rock Bridge State Park
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Koobi
Strengths:Comfort, nose does not tend to snag shorts when sliding forward on steep hills.
Weaknesses:Leather seams are getting worn but I've had this saddle a long time. Some would say weight but the most overweight component on my bike is the rider.
Similar Products Used:Brooks, Selle Italia Flite, San Marco.
Bike Setup:Lemond Poprad cyclocross bike, Fisher Marlin HT with Thudbuster (have used on both).
Bottom Line:This is a very comfortable seat that is also a good value (can't believe the prices on some of these new seats!). I find it works best if mounted just slightly nose down. I've done 6 hour rides on my Lemond with no saddle issues. I like the way the nose is rounded, some saddles tend to snag shorts when riding way forward. The seams on the top are getting worn on mine. When time comes for a replacement, it will be another Koobi.

Date Reviewed: September 30, 2007
Favorite Trail:Jacob's Ladder
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $65.00
Purchased At:direct from Koobi
Strengths:split nose/love channel shape
Weaknesses:seating surface wearing off, now absorbs water
Similar Products Used:WTB, Avocet, SDG
Bike Setup:Mongoose Teocali Elite
Bottom Line:Very good saddle for my butt. Very comfortable but maybe a tad wide. Mine is very worn after a year or so and 2k plus miles. Top layer of seating surface wore off and now absorbs water. Love the saddle and would give perfect rating except for accelerated wear. To be fair though, it is billed as a recreational saddle.

Date Reviewed: July 18, 2006
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Fantastic! No numbness/tingling/etc. Comfortable. Great construction.
Weaknesses:None!
Similar Products Used:Various gel seats and the Specialized version + various weight weenie racing saddles.
Bike Setup:Shwinn Homegrown (hard tail race bike), XT/XTR, SID
Bottom Line:Have used this saddle for over 5 years for cross country racing, adventure racing, and 24-hour racing which equals long and rough hours in the saddle. I will never purchase another! Rarely, if ever do I have problems down in the region of interest. The seat is comfortable and has lasted through significant abuse. No tearing or deterioration of the leather. Have used various gel seats and the Specialized versions. If you're having problems, buy one of these seats and ride on problem free.

Date Reviewed: January 11, 2005
Favorite Trail:Any trail that doesn't provide certain death as part of the ride
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:Given to me as a promo
Strengths:Durable, comfy, nice looking, well designed, not obnoxiously heavy
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:All kinds of saddles
Bike Setup:Yer basic hardtail mountain bike that's not top of the line and not junk.
Bottom Line:As a big, big guy who loves to take long rides on trails many times each week, this is a great seat! I had thought that mountain biking would just have to be moderately painful on the ass and nuggets for a large fleshy guy like me, but I was wrong. Being like Jabba the Hut, the seat literally disappears under my gerth, but that's okay -- the seat is durable and functional. Koobi makes a great seat that retains its comfort throughout the miles. I can actually do an all-day ride and not come home numb now. Before I got the Koobi, I was in pain after an hour or two in the saddle. Not anymore! I do not hesitate to recommend Koobi. Plus they look kind of cool and nobody else I know has one. If you see me on the trail (and I'm hard to miss) with a smile on my face, you'll know my Koobi is still going strong ...

Price Paid: $54.00
Purchased At:new revolution cycles
Strengths:comfort, durability
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:Serfas Rx other gel saddled and the default Giant saddle.
Bike Setup:NRS
Bottom Line:This review is for the new version of SI gel saddle.
I was concerned about changing my Serfas Rx which is
so well padded but decided to try due to the great reviews
here (thanks). The weight is at 320g a full 185g lighter than the Serfas and the width is a bit narrower which makes
for a better technical saddle. But the main issue of comfort was fully answered. This saddle is even more
comfy than the Serfas - all my worries dissapeared and
I am a happy camper. I will get this one again if needed
without hesitation.

Date Reviewed: December 17, 2003
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $45.00
Strengths:Super comfortable
Great price for a Koobi
Future generations no longer doomed, family clan lives on
Weaknesses:Slightly heavy, but that's about it
Similar Products Used:Fizik Plateau, Koobi Tri, Selle Flight, etc
Bike Setup:Merlin E-Stay Suspension '93, full XTR
Bottom Line:The bottom line is that my bottom feels fine.

The junk saver does the business. Nicely contoured so that everything just falls into place. You may need to put your seat a little further forward and tilt it more downwards than you're used to to take full advantage of this.

Mine didn't even need seasoning, was instantly comfy right out of the box. Leather feels great when you're wearing shorts, or indeed if you're nekkid, though I wouldn't know, honest guv'nor!

You can get lighter saddles, but you won't get one as nice to sit on for the price. Only reason I relegated this to my spare bike was cos I bought another saddle - you guessed it, Koobi as well, the Tri model.

Bottom Line:I am just over 200lbs and I had just about decided that I would have to be uncomfortable. I read several reviews on this site and I decided to give the Koobi SI a try. I am glad I did. This is a very comfortable saddle. I used to really start to feel my saddle after an hour or so but now I never think about my butt. BUY ONE

Date Reviewed: September 8, 2003
Favorite Trail:Old Springs Trail, Marin, Ca
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Cycle Surgery, London, UK
Strengths:Strong and very comfortable, good level of padding
Weaknesses:None that I can think of
Similar Products Used:Koobi Au Enduro, various Specialiazed
Bike Setup:Cove Stiffee FR, Hope Bulb hubs and Mavic X219 rims, Marzocchi Z1 Drop Off forks, Race Face North Shore cranks & rings, XT shifers & front mech, XTR rear mech, Hope C2 disc brake set, Easton EA50 seat post, bar and stem
Bottom Line:I use this saddle on my Cove 'out-of-bounds' hardtail for serious XC hacks and light freeriding. I wanted a thicker, more pliable saddle to provide more cushioning without a weight penalty. The Si fits the bill - still going strong after serious use, with just some light scuffing from wear on the sides of the leather. Excellent

Strengths:Looks cool, super comfortable, quality construction, curvy ergonomic profile fits me nicely
Weaknesses:none
Bike Setup:Rockhopper FSR with lots of goodies
Bottom Line:This is a great, good looking, comfortable saddle. Once it broke in it became more comfortable than I would have expected from just leather and padding. The love channel works wonders. Cool graphics. Weight weenies might prefer a few grams lighter, but it's light enough for most. Quality construction. Great deal.

Purchased At:pricepoint, I think?
Strengths:all sorts of comfortable. And i like their little K spade logo.
Weaknesses:hmmmm, its a little heavier than a more expensive saddle?
Bike Setup:Supergo, er, Access 03 XCL, Marz Marathon, Team Stylo cranks, XTR rear derailer, XT front derailer, Hayes Comp disc, and Sun DS2-XC/XT wheelset. And of course the lovely Koobi
Bottom Line:Very happy with this saddle. I use this bike to commute to work, around 12 miles a day, and I can say I would definatly buy another one. Not the lighteset one you can buy but its a reasonable cost and my ass loves this thing. I ride it almost every day and only once has it bothered me, though i think that might have been more the fault of the shorts i was wearing.

Good price, good feel, good buy.

Favorite Trail:my commute to work
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Koobi.com
Strengths:Just darn comfortable. Also quite durable.
Weaknesses:Even though durable, the black leather covering and logos/writing on the top starts to crack after a couple thousand miles
Similar Products Used:Teri, Specialized, Trek, Avocet, Selle Italia
Bike Setup:My commuter bike: 2002 Trek 520. Stock except for lots of commuting/touring add-ons.
Bottom Line:I've owned/own three of these saddles. I first discovered Koobi back in 1999 when I was doing 35-mile round-trip commutes to and from work EVERYDAY. At that time, I had a mountain-style bike adapted for commuting. I tried just about every comfort/commuting/road saddle out there and finally ran across the Koobi Si. I haven't looked back since. Last year, I retired that mountain-style commuter bike with more than 7000 miles on that Koobi saddle. It never let me down and was always comfortable. The saddle leather and logos/writing did crack after about 1500-2000 miles, but the saddle comfort seemed to only get better with age.

Last year, I made two major bike purchases. I purchased a true commuter/touring bike (Trek 520) and a $3000 Ritchey Road Logic (with Dura-Ace Triple :). The VERY FIRST thing I did for both bikes was to buy Koobi Si saddles. My only wish is that they keep making this saddle FOREVER. I'm afraid 5, 10 years down the road when I purchase new rides that I will not be able to get one. I've done up to a century (100-mile ride) with the Koobi on my Ritchey bike and it's comfortable down to the last mile. I've recommended this saddle to 2 other of my "road-bike" buddies and both of them now swear by it. If you're not a "weight-wenny," this is the saddle to own. You will not be disappointed.

Date Reviewed: December 15, 2002
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $49.00
Purchased At:koobi.com
Strengths:Nice design, well made, looks cool, firm but comfortable padding, relatively cheap
Weaknesses:would like to see a gel option
Similar Products Used:Specialized BG, Trek CRX+, SDG Comp, Serfas Gel
Bike Setup:heavily upgraded Rockhopper FSR
Bottom Line:I'm pretty sensitive "down there", and I was skeptical that a non-gel saddle would keep my 'nads happy, but after a few rides I was sold. Much better than Specialized body geometry, as the center split goes all the way to the tip so no pressure on the soft, tender areas. Would like to see a gel option for added softness, but that's just a quibble as this saddle works well as is. Also like the durable construction and nice stitching details. I found angling the nose down and making sure it's far enough forward so that your sit bones are on the more padded areas helps a lot, too.

Favorite Trail:Anything on the Colorado Trail
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Pricepoint.com
Strengths:Extremely comfortable and relieves pressure on the "soft tissue".
Weaknesses:Not the lightest saddle....350 grams I think.
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:Basic Schwinn Moab I.
Bottom Line:This saddle is much much more comfortable than what came with the bike. I just slapped it on and adjusted it to where it felt good and took it out for the first ride today. It was about a 17 mile ride and my rump has never been better. I thought I would be adjusting it a few times on the trail, but never had to...it was great. The bottom line is that if you want a saddle that is supremely comfortable and can deal with an extra 100 grams then this is the saddle for you. Shoot, just put a splash less water in your pack to make up for the extra weight.

Favorite Trail:Markham
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $38.00
Purchased At:Nearly new condition on ebay
Strengths:Super comfortable, nice leather cover. Perfect amount of padding in just the right places. Never even required a break-in period for my butt, comfy from day 1.
Weaknesses:Kevlar corners could be bigger to better protect the leather.
Similar Products Used:Bontrager FS-10 (stock on my bike) which was horrible. Also a Fizik Nisene Twintech Ti which my butt never could get used to, I was sore after every ride even after over a year.
Bike Setup:Trek 6500 with XTR, Race Face, Marzocchi Atom Race, etc. Doesn't really matter since I'm reviewing a saddle.
Bottom Line:Get one, you won't regret it. If you don't like it I think Koobi gives you a trial period so you can return it anyways.

Too bad there's not 6 flaming chilis..

Favorite Trail:Any trail, any where.
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:www.koobi.com
Strengths:Comfortable saddle, weight nicely distributed on seat bones. Slot helps reduce numbness problems.
Weaknesses:Some other riders don't approve of the "taco" seat...
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:Doesn't matter.
Bottom Line:I got this seat after I got my Schwinn Moab 1. I thought that the stock seat it came with was pretty hard, but I was also just getting into riding.

After I slapped on the Koobi SI saddle, and got a few more rides in, my ass stopped complaining. I just thought my ass must have gotten used to the riding. Then recently I sat on my friends seat, I instantly realized how good the Koobi SI saddle really is.

It has also seemed pretty durable so far.

Bottom line is, if I get a new bike, I'll probably get another one.

Value gets 4 because I'm a cheap ass.
Overall gets a 5 because I can't think why it shouldn't.
