Submitted by Steve a Weekend Warrior from Calgary, AB, Canada
Date Reviewed: September 27, 2000
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Comfy, gel in just the right places (right under the
sit bones only)...
Weaknesses:leather wears a bit easily...
Similar Products Used:Avocet, ritchey, specialized
Bike Setup:Custom hybrid/tour/cross
Bottom Line:I own the Viper with the D1 gel (a little softer than
the D2)... Having gone through avocet and ritchey
saddles and not being able to bike the day after,
I borrowed my friend's Wheeler MTB which had a Garneau
BioGel Weekend (lycra cover, little wider, less "trick")
and couldn't believe how comfortable it was... after
3 years with my Viper and 1K miles later, my butt is
still thanking me. The gel is still plush...
My only complaint is that the leather is not too durable...
I scraped down the side of it after a wipe (fixable
with a bit off GOOP or that leather repair stuff) and
the front of the nose started to wear after only a century
of commuting... So buy a saddle cover... I used both an
Avocet vinyl/kevlar and Sugoi lycra- both work fine.

Submitted by Rick Gebethner a cross-country rider from Canada
Date Reviewed: August 27, 1996
Bottom Line:
I've parked my butt on many a seat over the 35 years I've been riding.
This saddle is the first one I've had that actually feels like something
other than an upholstered 2x4. I can now ride xc for several hours a day for days in a
row with *no* saddle sores. I'm six foot and 165 lbs so I don't have much padding
of my own; moreover, I don't wear padded biking shorts - I don't need them.
Overall Rating:5
