Strengths:    snappy looks?

Weaknesses:    reported weight is waaaaay lower than actual. they advertise this as a 65.5 g headset and it also states that weight right on the box. it weighs 95 g. when i called crank bros they had some excuse that it is probably only the cup weight but that is consistent with other manufacturers. i weigh everything and this is the only example i am aware of that they report cup weight as headset weight

Bottom Line:
i'll try to repost when i've had a chance to use this thing for a while but the massive under reporting of weight already undermines my confidence in the integrity of crank bros. i believe it was an intentionally misleading advert with the sole aim of selling more headsets. they should be ashamed.

Strengths:    Light

Weaknesses:    Rust, Rust & poor seals

Bottom Line:
In twenty years of racing I have never had a headset issue until now. And I have had some cheap headsets. I have only used King headsets on all my bikes in the last ten or so years with zero trouble. I purchased the CB headset to save some $$ and like the CB pedals. This thing started to rust on the OUTSIDE of the body. What??? Then last week after a bike wash (no power washing only a bucket of soapy water and rinse) I noticed the headset sticking. I took it apart and the bearings were wet, corroded and grease-less. This thing is less than 3 months old. CB in there expansion to grow better keep an eye on quality. There pedals are great, the rest of there stuff?

Crank Brothers Iodine 2 freehub on an Iodine 1?

Doing the bearings on my CB Iodines, which as far as I know are version 1 (came with the bike, which was ex-demo, in 2011). Done front hub with bearings I already had, rear needs doing also, including freehub. Turns out the freehub bearings are more expensive despite being smaller. £20 in the UK ... Read More »

Iodine 3 wheels

Just picked up a set of brand new 2013 Iodine 3 wheels for my stumpy 29, mostly out of curiosity and because I got them on the cheap ($349). They look great and I've heard the stories about the CB product failures in the past so we'll see what happens. I already own a pair of Flow Ex's with Hope ... Read More »

Custom Crankbrothers Iodine 3 Wheelset for my Intense

I was at Crankbrothers earlier in the week and they were nice enough to custom build me a new set of Iodine 3's with Gold to match the build on my Tracer 2 conversion. Crank Brothers Iodine Carbon 11 bar w / bar ends

I know this is a bit of a long shot... I want to use bar ends with my new carbon bars. Crank Brothers doesn't support it... I have read others who do it regularly without issue with different un-supported carbon bars. I am looking to understand if anyone is doing it with mine... Is anyone here ... Read More »
