Strengths:
The german Schmolke Karacho is a very lightweight carbon handlebar. It weights only 98 gr (560mm). It is very durable and reliable (tested in the german Bike magazine 5/96). It offers a little bit flex, so you have a little more comfort compared to an aluminium bar. It has an aluminium shim, so it ist no problem to clamp it on the stem. It can't be damaged by clamping. You can install barends without damaging the bar, because the handlebar has strong ends which offer higher wall-thickness. The steering precision is very good.Weaknesses:
I can't find any weaknesses.A great problem of any carbonfibre components is, that they can break easilier after crashing than Al-components. I crashed with this bar two times, but it does not break or shows other signs of damage. Perhaps it is for heavy riders a little bit flexy, but for normal weight riders, this means much riding comfort.Bottom Line: This a great bar for cross-country riding. It's lightweight and durable (tested in the german Bike magazine 5/96) and offers nice steering performance. I like it very much, so I give it 5 stars.

It's my first carbon handle bar. Before i get it, i used Al- handlebars, like Syncros or Syntace. These bars are about 50-60gr heavier than the Schmolke, but they are not so flexy. I like the flex, because for me this means more comfort. I can't find a difference in the steering performance between the Al-handlebars and the Schmolke.
Bike Setup:
Ti-hardtail with front suspension. I use a RPM stem.
