really wide, perfect for trials riding... the wider the better... the shims fit perfectly into the oversized stem i have on 2 of my bikes (both have xxx dh) the price is worth the piece of mind when coming off an 8ft drop durring the sessions i do in an urban environment... mostly trials riding in southern ca... the weight is minimal when compared to other flimsy aluminum bars if you compare strength to weight. If you are tired of bars that have catostrophic failures within 6 mo... try the XXX DH CROMO bars, if trials and dh/freeride is for you! 11 years with no failures on 2 different bikes since 1998... one a trials mod bike and the other a dh/freeride bike... i have ridden 6-12 hrs weekly for 11 years. never once failed and forgiving enough for the biggest hits and drops...
Weaknesses:
shims have a slight slip, use 2-5 brake cable clippings to prevent shim slippage between shim and bars is the best way. between the stem and the shim if that does't work... trial and error...

Bottom Line:
aluminum bars will fail in the long run... i trust these cromo bars with my life, and my life is in my hands on these bars... cromo xxx dh bars have survived on 2 of my trials bikes since 1998 and have not shown even the slightest signs of wear and are as rigid as the day of purchas... one on a stock trials/dh/freeride bike the other on a mod trials bike used in competitions and in daily rides... i am riding on the same pair since 1998...

good for cross country riding at the trails around my house. So far I would buy another pair.
Four chillis for the money spent Four chillis for the weight. (could be a little lighter)
i would recomend them for cross coutry or for just an up grade too. (you must ride fast or be last)

Bottom Line:
Amazing bars for the price. I needed to replace some old RFs and these were the cheapest I could find that looked strong. No problems after a season of racing and Whistler. Chromo will bend before it snaps so you won't be eating your stem.

Light for DH, accurate, no flex, and have you tards noticed that this bar acts like the $150 Mg stems, as far as cutting out the high frequency vibes? I've run this beaut for almost 2 years...I SHOULD replace it...but it hasn't given me a reason too...fatigue...it's there somewhere.

A decent bar, I bent mine in a moderate crash after 3 months... I won't buy another pair though. These failed miserably IMO.
Bent the bar about an inch down, inch and a half inward, also cracked the weld holding the crossbrace on.
Not a super durable bar. But decent all the same.
4 for value, it was cheap. 2 overall, because it bent.

This is my first riser bar, I needed one long ago.

Bottom Line:
I needed a riser bar bad. I felt like I was leaning way too far over the front hub. These bars have changed the whole geometry of my bike and made HUGE improvements. I'm an old BMXer and these bars put you more upright in the saddle. Makes downhills feel way more stable even with cheap RST 281 forks, and uphills climbs have NOT been effected in any negative way.

This is a surprisingly strong and functional product from Bontrager...I took a gamble buying a DH product from them but it has turned out to be awesome...totally strong, stiff, and not overkill like the Planet X bars. What else can I say, for $30 retail you get a much cheaper version of some of the other hyped-up superstrong riser bars on the market.

Plus, cromo bends before it breaks, so no unexpected chest punctures from the tattered remains of your aluminum bar at the bottom of that big drop

I really like this bar. It's hard to overstate how much. Take that flimsy alloy bar of yours, put your hands on the ends, and put all your weight on it. Then bounce up and down. Feel that? That's your bar wanking around about a half an inch or more. I don't know about you, but I don't like that.
Even with a rigid cromoly fork, I cannot get this thing to flex. The geometry is perfect for me, and is definitely unique among the bars I've tried. Big, wide, and precise. My favorite bar.
IT'S THIRTY DOLLARS! Why don't you own one yet?! In this day of radically overpriced components, do something to support the guys who offer us quality at a decent price!
