In the world of 29ers and single speed, the alternative or alt bars are more common place, and these type of bars tend to have large back sweeps and rise/drop for hand comfort. The Answer Enduro 20/20 handlebars are an excellent set of alt carbon bars, that are light, strong, with a wonderful resiliency and feel, and have an optimal width, rise and sweep. The idea behind the 20/20 is to reduce strain and increase comfort during ultra long rides. Continue reading →
Strengths: Comfort and control with increased power for me when standing, which as a SS rider you often do. Having said that, you don't need to ride a SS to get their benefits, so if you ride bar ends these are for you.
Weaknesses: expensive, but function proves their worth it, hence still 5 flaming chili's for value.
Alt bars are they all there cracked up to be ?. For me, i can say yes! as a SS rider the flat bar just never felt wright when standing putting down the hammer. Bar end's helped, but not ideal in the tech bit's. With the Alt bar the brakes are all-way's there where they should be @ your finger tips. More comfort going up and down i'm sold, not going back to straight'sh bars again.I used my same stem, reach is a wee bit different, but i was already running a wide bar @ 710mm this one is 720mm. The biggest problem one can have is if you are going from a way shorter bar, your brake cable may be to short to do a simple swap. Look's a bit weird @ first, but grows on you quickly. Hope Answer keeps making these, try finding a carbon Alt bar. Cheers...
Strengths: Let me start by saying that I really like the 20 degree sweep of this handlebar. I had previously ran a Soma Odin bar, but always felt it need just a touch more sweep and at least some rise. With that, I feel like Answer has really nailed sweep and rise with the 20/20 numbers.
I really enjoy the initial forward sweep of the bars for the quick burst out of the saddle climbs. They give my long 36" inseam plenty of room for this type of out of the saddle work. As well, it really seems like they hit the density of the carbon just right since it has little to no flex, yet seems to dampen the jarring quite nicely. To round it all out, the 720mm width is very generous for those 29er riders that like to just grip it and grind out the climbs.
Weaknesses: If I could pinpoint a weakness or downside to these bars, it would have to be the fact that the bars start their forward sweep within a few millimeters after abrasive stem clamping section. This will leave a cycle computer of headlight angled in towards the stem by a few degrees, which is just enough to be annoying. I was however able to remedy this annoyance by using and FSA Control Center which is the perfect width to clamp onto what little flat the bar has before it begins the forward sweep.
All in all, Answer has offered up a very good handlebar that will probably become popular with the alt bar fanatic. But in the end, it will still leave you wanting for the lack of center accessory mounting space. They almost nailed it!
