Once I drilled out the cheap set screws and replaced them with STEEL set screws they actually worked okay, still not tight enough for my liking though. The basic round grips are more or less all equivalent as far as I can tell, had a bunch of them too. | | Bike Setup: | Titus Ti Racer-x 29er, all XTR | | Bottom Line: | Love this grip, tried to get a replacement lock-on collar from Titec but no such luck (no sku for the part). Pity to dump a pair of grips for lack of small metal part. They would have happily replaced them, but it is easier to return them to REI. I intend to keep the one good collar as a spare for the new set, secure them carefully, and ride off happily into the sunset. For shape/comfort/weight these are the best IMHO. $12.00 | | Purchased At: | REI | | Strengths: | Comfortable, even for big hands. Less weird than other "ergonomic" grips. Fatter outside diameter makes it easier to grip with 3rd and 4th fingers while using the other two for braking. Cheap.
| | Weaknesses: | Hard to get the angle perfect. I got my left grip where I wanted it pretty quick, but could never get the right one exactly right. Only one clamp, which is made of cheap metal and strips easily. | | Bottom Line: | My right-hand grip never felt like it was in the right place, and I wound up stripping out the threads in the clamp when I tried to tweak it in the middle of a ride. Bad news. A product like this needs a lot of trial and error to get dialed in right, but the clamp is too soft and weak to last through a lot of loosening and retightening. Oh, well...12 bucks and one ride down the drain, not too bad. If you buy these, make sure you take extra care to set them up right and then don't ever mess with them again. | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

Now i can't remove the grip without drilling out the bolt. the bolt is made out of cheap aluminum. | | Bike Setup: | Stumpjumper 120 | | Bottom Line: | I regret buying these grips. Seemed comfortable at first while off the bike, but on the bike, my hands get numb. The lockon feature backfired because the bolt stripped and now my right grip is permanent unless i drill out the screw
